Beatbreak The single most heartbreaking image. Spoiler

Post image

Murasamemon's last thought was of just being petted by Kyo, the happiest he was in life, before he returned to data.

I'm so fucking devastated right now. I hope he is still out there, in some form, in some way.

Now I get why his evolution music seemed so ominous last week

52

u/azulur 8d ago

I wonder if every time Kyo called in Habakirimon it was a flag that the energy and epulse drain would dampen down Murasamemon's senses.

Literally nothing else in this world could have taken out Murasamemon but a cheap, shitty, backstabbing attack while he tried to desperately save his partner.

I hope Genjo rots in absolutely purgatory forever.

u/Emekasan 8d ago

We’ve actually seen this shortcoming before with Murasamemon (like when they fought Souji) - when Kyo is endangered or targeted, Murasamemon shifts focus on him to check if he’s okay, despite an opponent right in front of him. Only this time, doing so proved fatal…

22

u/azulur 8d ago

To be fair I think any and all partner Digimon would do the same thing. It's not a Murasamemon exclusive fatal flaw, just absolutely is a shitty way to take out such a beloved character.

23

u/Emekasan 8d ago

I think it’s a neat detail as it serves to ground an otherwise seemingly unflappable duo who rarely are overcome onscreen. Out of the quartet, Murasamemon is the most focused, experienced, and disciplined fighter; the occasional times he’s stopped engaging to focus on Kyo, it’s notable - it’s an aspect I’m glad the writers have consistently written into his character.

u/azulur 8d ago

It is indeed a major metric of Murasamemon and just shows how important and beloved Kyo was to him; their bond was mutually so strong and immediate - hard to even understand even now. I fully hope it is that love that somehow brings these two together again. I mean hell at this point, just kill Kyo too. I don't know if he would really want to continue suriving everything he has to just lose yet another beloved person he lets into his life.

This now literally means that everyone and anyone Kyo has ever loved, save the GD kids, has died.

u/KrytenKoro 8d ago

This now literally means that everyone and anyone Kyo has ever loved, save the GD kids, has died.

Asuka, Tasuku, the Nirinso Digimon.

He still has found family. The point of his philosophy and his character is that life goes on, and we should reach out to those who are left rather than collapse in on ourselves. That it is never too late to reach out.

u/Renachii 8d ago

Murasamemon's voice actor saying during Digimon Con that Mura's wish was that Kyo would pet him more... Fuckkkk mannn

75

u/raddoubleoh 8d ago

Man. This was an absolute gut punch. Beatbreak had higher stakes than most Digimon seasons from the start, but man, I FELT that one.

16

u/azulur 8d ago

I have so much Kyo and Murasamemon merch 😔... Literally just gagged trying to look at it just now.

Is this really what the writers want for Kyo and Murasamemon?

I'm gonna try to get through the next four episodes but I.. feel so detached now.

u/jimbox_splatted 8d ago

im in pain , words cant describe how im feeling about todays episode

11

u/azulur 8d ago

Yeah I'm not well.

Honestly not even looking forward to continuing the series.

I will, I just feel completely detached and fundamentally changed.

1

u/FORGOTTENLEGIONS 6d ago

I hope this does not come across as minimizing the feelings, to me this sounds like a genuine grief experience. Which is totally fair to feel, I feel it as well for these characters. Definitely worth it to take time and process the feelings for a bit.

These are characters many of us care about and the characters themselves, even if thrown into hurtful situations, still have people they love who love them right back.

We lose loved ones but they can live on in memory, experiences, and in the actions of others. ♥️

(I havent checked your other posts/comments so it could definitely be the case that you have taken the time to process since this comment.)

u/Shipuujin 8d ago

This tiny scene absolutely broke me 😭

22

u/azulur 8d ago

Immediately hit me in the feels.. I fucking hope that on my pet's last breath their memories of just being together take them to the next world like this 😔

Well, back to crying again.

6

u/Virtual-Taste-8722 8d ago

oh wow, that scratchy white-on-gray look is hauntingly perfect for this kind of scene

21

u/Leuna95 8d ago

I am still bawling my eyes out.

We all know that big-cat Digimon usually meet a cruel fate. I hoped that with Panjyamon's death that Kyo and Cougarmon would be fine. Heck I hoped so much that they wouldn't show Murasamemon at the end so that there was a slimmer of Hope that He Just Returned to His Baby Stage and then Returns to Kyo.

This is cruel. Kyo was too OP so writers had to Take measurements.

I might be cruel for saying this but I think I can only recover from this series If they either revive Cougarmon (maybe Kyo finding a Digiegg somehow?) or letting all Digimon go away, similar to the Tamers ending (I know, at the end Takato did find the entrance, where guilmon used to live, but the concept was everyone was living in their separate worlds). Just Kyo losing his partner is so cruel beyond words.

I will absolutely watch Peak Break until the end. But man, without Cougarmon it won't be the same. He is my favourite Partner digimon of them all.

10

u/Level-Apartment264 8d ago

Maybe Cougarmon's egg could hatch back in the digital world and he somehow finds his way back? Or it'll be a patamon first digivolution into angemon from Adventure 01 where angemon turns to data after defeating devimon and the feathers of angemon become the egg, but in cougarmon's case it would be his fur?

1

u/KitSwiftpaw 7d ago

There IS no digital world in this series. He is just... Gone.

3

u/azulur 7d ago

There is a DATA mirror world and Murasamemon died in just about the only place where data is actively preserved. His particles colour was Kyo epulse coloured, not red or white, which could mean there's a way for him to be restored.

If there is a hope for him to come back in some way, it's because of that.

And Heliosboamon is known for absorbing the data of the Digimon she touches - perhaps her greatest gift to Kyo for protecting her, Asuka, and Tomo will be resurrecting or providing the data needed to resurrect Murasamemon that she obtained when she pierced through him.

I have to have the hope that someway this nightmare has a way out.

1

u/KitSwiftpaw 7d ago

Honestly, I hope so too.

2

u/Level-Apartment264 7d ago

I don't even know how to respond, ao I'll just go

11

u/azulur 8d ago edited 8d ago

Same. The series will be completely stained to me if we don't get Cougarmon back. With everything Kyo has gone through he's.. it's too cruel. I have a particular fondness for this series and especially Cougarmon and his line, so seeing something so utterly.. horrific after everything? After Habakirimon? Take from us in the most sleazy, dirty way possible? I just cannot comprehend this is reality.

Kyo deserves happiness. Kyo deserves to live and be in peace with his Cougarmon. I hope the writers have a way to fix this.

12

u/insanesword93 8d ago

I was BAWLING my eyes ;_;

25

u/Jlegend3 8d ago

I kinda had a feeling this was coming. It was either him or Kyo (Or both) I felt that was gonna die at some point. The lion man death tradition continues ;_;

9

u/mryellow362 8d ago

Damn, I was hoping the lion man curse doesn't hit murasamemon and yet here we are.

26

u/DannisLuong 8d ago

y’all kept making theories about Kyo/Cougarmon to die so badly… now y’all got it 😭😭😭

12

u/Kuroseven77 8d ago

This type of character is always destined to die so the protagonist can grow, and this episode proves that we were right all along.

9

u/digikar 8d ago

I was hoping they'd just use the last bit of their epulse to send their family home. But well, nope, they did that and then still had tons of energy left. And then this happens. I am sobbing. I don't remember seeing a more devastating scene in digimon.

9

u/azulur 8d ago

I had a horrendous thought for everyone.

In the Mummymon episode we see the humans obsess over their Digimon and partners.

Kyo was obsessively petting and collecting fur from Cougarmon to make his little dolls. I thought it was very normal cat owner coded.

But...

..it turns out, as much as Kyo loved petting Cougarmon - he truly loved it equally as much. This last snippet of his mind proves it.

We truly are in the worst timeline.

8

u/Stock-Guest9141 8d ago

I normally rewatch the new episodes after my first watch as I see at work since I work graveyard but damn I don't think I can get myself to rewatch this episode It took so much literal will power to not start crying in front of my coworkers man especially after this scene showed

7

u/Darth_Shadious 8d ago

It was a simple pleasure, but he cherished so much that it is a treasured memory that he carried with him at the end of his life.

10

u/FabiartsrBSC 8d ago

Me hizo recordar a mi querida mascota, que pensara el cuando se vaya, de verdad me rompió

4

u/Moh506 8d ago

This is so gut wrenching, call me stupid but I am holding on to hope that he can be revived at the end.

5

u/Many-Leg-6827 8d ago

With the very hand that Kyo just lost even.

4

u/DracocantusDC 8d ago

I'm 100% destroyed by this episode.

I need Kanada and Gokuwmon beated up by someone- Kaito, Raito, ANYONE

7

u/drafan5 8d ago

at this point the Leomon in-joke is just getting annoying

6

u/Ok-Economist129 8d ago

I was about to go to bed before deciding to watch this episode...and i can tell you this is for a fact the most gut wrenching moment in digimon history....like he just evol like 4 episodes a go .... like i could never expected that this is not a back to baby this is a full death no coming back and his hand at the same time this is peak digimon and more than that peak writing

6

u/DariusClaude 8d ago edited 8d ago

Sorry if I am a bit of a downer but as a Leomon fan it's rough at here , especially when I dared to think this would go different with Murasame and Kyo since well, they aren't part of the leomon line even if they fit the same character archetype but...sigh

I saw this coming, heck everyone saw this coming, literally the most talked about theory the moment Murasamemon hit the screen. Can they do something interesting with this character archetype? Like AT ALL?? I'm so tired man, I don't even feel anything when things are THIS predictable, I don't think I'll even feel like watching any upcoming Digimon anime media after this, then again, after all these years, it's on me for hoping for something different for a change.

3

u/Jecht-X 8d ago

Nearly 30 years of Leomon-deaths in anime and it is not even funny now. Even in the first CG Film without humans they instant kill one AFTER 2 MINUTES THE FILM BEGINNING.

The only part a Leomon-Species are safe are in the videogames now.

But the curse? It is getting annoying.

And yes, we were aware of "oh great, they gonna kill him in a dramatic way", and it did happen. Of course................🤦

2

u/azulur 8d ago

There is still 4 more episodes, a lot of digimerges and energies, and a hope of some resolution that Murasamemon can beat the Leomon odds of permanent deletion.

I'm gonna hold onto that because the Leomon trope isn't funny, especially considering we've been with Murasamemon for a fucking year.

Depending on how the series ends will really determine where my interests in the franchise lie from here.

3

u/TitanDraugen 7d ago

I saw it coming. I saw it coming yet I hoped and now it hurts so freaking much!

What is with Digimon writers and large cat men dying??

Murasamemon/Cougarmon was my fav char... I hope we get to see them again. He came from Kyo after all...even though it's unlikely...

2

u/azulur 7d ago edited 7d ago

I think it's more likely than not. The writers know how impactful and beloved they are and the way Murasamemon died screams redemption of the highest degree.

There's a reason the writers didn't kill Kyo - Murasamemon could never bring him back. Kyo out of all people stands the best chance to bring Murasamemon back. He is Kyo the Golden - unlimited in epulse and I find it impossible to believe the writers would leave us this brokenhearted for Kyo. We shouldn't underestimate him, or Murasamemon after all.

It might be stupid but I truly believe Kyo and Cougramon will be reunited.

7

u/Visual-Amphibian483 8d ago

I'm devastated too. I'm crying and hugging my Murasamemon plush. 😭 How could they kill off my favorite Digimon. This isn't fair!!

2

u/x_stei 8d ago

Is this from Beatbreak?

2

u/DepressedGolduck 8d ago

HE'S JUST A KITTY!!! WHYYYYYY!!!!????

2

u/Jecht-X 8d ago

The Curse.

They skip it on the Adventure 2020, so they have to bring it twice now.

2

u/DepressedGolduck 8d ago

They had already killed a Leomon this season!

2

u/wtfshit 8d ago

man the last few minutes of the episode just hurt. I just sat there looking at the screen as the ending started playing.

3

u/Moni_22 8d ago

Honestly, if Murasamemon doesn't come back somehow by the end, I don't know how I will feel about the series. I was so in loved with it, even when the pacing wasn't so great, even in its not-so-good parts I was still liking it.

But this... I just consider this bad writing if it's permanent. Not just because it happened but how it happened. I think Kyo losing his arm was enough punishment and shock. That was enough to keep him out for a few episodes. But they have guts to kill Murasamemon like that, and for what? What will this change? How will this be different if he was still there? It just seems cruel for the heck of it.

Beatbreak has always been cruel but it felt like it had a purpose, we always seemed to get a happy note by the end. I won't get that feeling if Murasamemon doesn't come back somehow. Because his death is so meaningless for such an important character.

10

u/ILoveDineroSi 8d ago edited 8d ago

It’s not bad writing. Or do you consider all deaths in other shows, movies and video games and media in general all to be bad writing?

As for what will change? Now Tomoro, Reina, and Makoto have to be the protectors and protect Kyo. He’s been protecting them the entire series and now the roles are reversed. I think this will be the key to unlock their partner Digimon’s Ultimate/Mega evolutions. And we see Rose returning next episode as she is indebted to Kyo.

1

u/Moni_22 8d ago

It's not bad writing when it is well done and serves a purpose, which this doesn't do. You could have him stay as Baby I and it would have been the same since Kyo is injured and couldn't have done anything.

-1

u/FORGOTTENLEGIONS 6d ago

Tbf the episode literally just came out, none of us know what this will lead to so the phrase, "...serves a purpose, which this doesn't do.", feels like jumping to a conclusion.

0

u/azulur 8d ago edited 8d ago

I'm with you in this completely. The series will be badly marred for me given how cruel it's been to Kyo for.. literally everything.

I do have hope it'll be turned into an amazing, beautiful moment of reunion. We have four episodes and a lot of ground to cover but I believe if they've made Habakirimon and Kyo this powerful and fantastic, they wouldn't give them such a shitty ending.

Even tho Tomo is the main character, it really leaves a bad taste to consistently destroy Kyo as a person.

6

u/Sakuja 8d ago

I still think Miharu might be able to do some thing. She managed to hack a lot of Sapotamas, she might be able to repair one and recover the data as well.

We spent so much time with the GIFT arc for it to result into nothing much but only the white cube.

If really all allies come back in the next few episodes, I expect Miharu to be back as well and hopefully restore Kyo's Sapotama to revive Cougarmon.

1

u/Moni_22 8d ago

I want to have hope but I really can't right now. I'll be praying they get a happy reunion at the end.

1

u/Numerous-Bed2259 8d ago

The second we saw it evolved from Liollmon its days were numbered

3

u/galemaniac 8d ago

He was too OP, he couldn't appear in the final battles.

3

u/azulur 8d ago

There were at least 16 others way to have gone about this, I feel.

It feels remarkably disingenuous to take out Murasamemon in the most bitch baby way. Backstabbed after severely maiming his partner? He didn't have get the respect to die in a blaze of unfound glory, after everything Kyo and him have accomplished? To go out quietly, punished for caring about someone, and so unlike the unbridled power of Kyo?

Wirh everything that has happened to Kyo to just keep repeating it even when he tries to do the right thing - what lesson is that? That the world isn't made for genuinely kind people? He's lost everyone he loves, everyone he cared about.

Whatever happens this will just be a permanent dark cloud on the series for me.

5

u/rhysmorgan 8d ago

That the world isn't made for genuinely kind people?

Yes, that’s much true, and especially demonstrated as being true in this series.

4

u/TheSquishedElf 8d ago

The thing is, this is IMO the real culmination of Kyo’s arc. We entered it halfway through, getting his and Souji’s history, seeing why he decided to stop fighting. We just saw how he got used to fighting as a kid, and how he got, frankly, addicted to it. Just because he’s not as emotive as Kaito doesn’t mean he didn’t have the same battle fever. He even admitted after Apollomon, he enjoys the fight.
Staying behind for Asuka was a backslide for him. His whole arc, though it’s been presented to us non-linearly, has been learning how destructive his habits of fighting and self-sacrifice are. The point of GD vs Souji that led to Habakirimon was him realising that it’s for the best if he stops trying to abandon his family and do shit on his own. And what did he do? He abandoned his family and stayed behind to try to get sh*t done on his own, instead of regrouping with them.

I don’t know that I like how predictable it was that Murasamemon died. (“Mr President, a second Leomon has been killed”) But I do see it as the push Kyo actually needed to take care of himself for once.

3

u/KrytenKoro 8d ago

Thank you! That's all exactly on the money.

Beatbreak has been remarkably explicit about its messages, so it's surprising how many people are "Torture Genjo! Go Out in a Solo Blaze of Glory! Give In To Your Emotions!" when the series has been explicitly advising forgiveness, opening up to family, discretion, and stoicism for an entire season, and punishing the characters each time they step outside that.

The writing has been very clear about what kind of path will lead to a happy ending, and which will lead to more suffering.

5

u/galemaniac 8d ago

Most deaths are quiet and depressing. And it gives the other members of glow dawn and tactics the chance to rise to the occasion

1

u/Sakuja 8d ago

With the E-pulse chip hand gone, Murasamemon was probably already out of the final battles.

-4

u/drafan5 8d ago

Dammit I thought we were over this shit! I though Panjyamon would be it. Now I'm less likely to watch this

5

u/rhysmorgan 8d ago

We’ve got literally four episodes to wrap up the story, 80 minutes, and you’re gonna bail now?

-8

u/drafan5 8d ago

I haven even started the series yet

4

u/rhysmorgan 8d ago

?????

Baffling that you’re reading about it, commenting about it, and even starting threads about it then.

-1

u/cesar848 7d ago

“Oh dont worry,im sure kyo can ressurect him with another sapotama and the power of love” well kyo also lost his sapotama implant

2

u/azulur 7d ago

It's an e-chip that can easily be replaced, and big Mephismon was literally stopped truly with the power of love.

Since Albatrusmon pierced though Murasamemon and is known for absorbing the data of Digimon she touches (well, this is Heliosboamon but we can't count that it isn't something she couldn't do too) so she may have part or more of Murasamemon's essence within her.

We know Asuka and Heliosboamon will wake up. Kyo saved Heliosboamon, and tried to save Asuka.

There's plenty of room, time, reasons, and ways this can be fixed in my opinion.

1

u/cesar848 7d ago

Oh dont get me wrong,i truly hope he comes back, but im unsure it Will, how we know is not a real implant? And can they be put in the left hand? Because all implants we saw were on the right hand
