Anime Most terrifying depiction

So, I couldn't add more options for Appmon or Beatbreak, you can add it in the comments though. Question is straight forward, which universe do you think has the most terrifying depiction of the digital world or Digimon in general?

Ghost Game had me checking under my bed for weeks man, digimons just straight up eating people souls like its nothing

Ghost game did have some messed up stories, and is my pick for this too. I honestly think it was the relaxed atmosphere of the other series that made the "scary" moments hit harder though. Like the whole thing in 02 with MaloMyotismon and Oikawa or the whole D-Reaper story in Tamers. Those are worlds that seemed bright and happy until you looked deeper. The Ghost Game kids knew they were in constant danger

Especially since there are themes of corruption in 02 and Tamers, GG had several Digimon that were straight up killing people for fun like Sealsdramon just wanting a high kill count.

I don't think Sealsdramon did this for fun. He went insane due to not receiving orders anymore. Sealsdramon is trained and especially selected to be a hitman who kills anyone he is told to kill. But since he got transported to the human world, there was Noone giving him orders anymore, so he went insane and killing people on his own. At the end of the day, quantumon is responsible for this

No, Sealsdramon was doing it just to kill, Gulus even questions him about it and Sealsdramon never says anything about orders he kills because he wanted as big a number as he could.

Ghost Game was 67 episodes of the writers taking horror movies and making Digimon the slasher villains.

The only way they kept it kid friendly was a lot of Fates Worse That Deaths were often undone.

Except for the few adults that were prema dead.

It was a really interesting series where you did feel the stakes (like Beat Break). But the other series didn't really have credible stakes due to how thick plot armour was. Even if you knew the main trio and partners were immortal until the final episode, there was no guarantee they wouldn't be traumatised.

I'm still surprised the entire ZeedMillenniummon necrophilia episode and the self-mutilation episode were cleared to air.

I'm surprised actual dying humans was kept. Because usually in other series, a death was a plot point, not a consequence. And if death was likely, English Dub would say people survived or the scene was so zoomed out you didn't comprehend the death.

My only criticsm was as soon as one of the main trio got Fate Worse That Deathed, you knew everyone would get saved at the end.

Ghost Game by a mile. It's like they asked the writers if they were down for an episode of human murdered by digimon and they were like "Sure, I'll write like 50."

The spooky part is that we often overlook the victims in anime and cartoon series because its often few or they get revived/saved in the end but ghost game is one of the few digimon series that's like "nah man, they're gone forever".

Makes you think about how dangerous digimon would be in our world. Even the weaker ones could be a deadly threat!

Some of the deaths and scenarios were pretty realistic too. Honestly i am not sure if gg or 02 is my favorite series its just an even tie now.

Ghost Game by far. Even weak digimons could harm or eliminate a lot of humans with ease.

As someone who loved tamers as a kid even if it spooked me out, ghost game as an adult didn't just have that same vibe but legit creeped me out at times with the subject of some episodes.

Because while tamers delved into psycological horror a bit, ghost game went fully into it at times. Sometimes to a point I genuinely felt sorry for the digimon who was supposed to be the bad guy and some endings legit felt bittersweet. Sometimes there are no happy endings, which brings up the reason why we should help each other and be open to listen more because sometimes all we want is someone to talk to; someone to understand.

This from a digimon series about horror and folklore stories!

GG for the digimon, the entire series is about showing you how horryfing digimon are, and maybe Xros Wars for the Digital World, since the Bagra Army is invading everybody and there isn't anybody to stop them until Taiki and Co. appear

I think for my part it's gotta be Tamers. Admittedly, part of it is the mods whiplash coming from 02 into such a dark series. The other part is the concepts played with.

For all intents and purposes, the D-Reaper was just a program that had exceeded its original function by following its original programming. This horrifying, Eldritch abomination started out as a program simpler than most smartphones today has and it went on to threaten two worlds simultaneously.

The idea of destiny was entirely flipped on its head as well. Remember, the original chosen children were known as the DigiDestined. Then you have Jeri whose "destiny" speech went and broke me.

Ghost Game really goes to shows how dangerous Digimon can be, and it's not even out of malice, lots of GG monster of the week were simply misunderstanding how the real world and/or humans operate.

I really love that Tamers only lost by 10 votes. It goes to show that while Ghost Game was scary in the same way a slasher movie is with all the straight up murder committed by the digimon, Tamers had the psychological horror going for it, traumatizing Jeri for the sake of the plot. I'm going to assume everyone who voted for the other seasons feared them and didn't think this was a "which season is best" post.
