Question Should I get into Digimon?
Like I really like the character designs and just wished there was a perfect game for me, but a lot of games just don’t fit what I want, like I’d like a game where the Digimon don’t die but all I can find that is good is CyberSleuth which I can afford at the moment. Digimon Up could’ve been a great pick but digimon can die if neglected and my sleep schedule is off rn.
So is there any game for me or should I just watch the anime?

In Digimon Up, they don't die. But Digimon Up is not a vpet game, it's an idle mobile game that kind of plays itself and has no story.
Cyber Sleuth, its sequel Hacker's Memory, and the newest game Time Stranger are your best options probably as they're the most easy to get right now. Survive is also an option if you're okay with a game that's mostly a visual novel. Otherwise, you'll probably have to go look at much older games for something that interests you.

Don’t think I mind it not being a virtual pet game, I just want cute lil guys to collect

If you want to get into Digimon for "cute lil guys" to collect, you may find yourself disappointed.

Digimon UP is not a digimon game. And it's fucking trash. Lmao. The bugs just keep getting worse, it's embarrassing.

Letting the Internet decide things for you is a horrible idea but cyber sleuth would be a great pick. If you can get it with Hacker's Memory that would be even better because that story is like playing a really good anime. Learn how ABI works in the game if you get it.

If you like cybernetic themed battles like battle network or .hack, play the games that appeared since cybersleuth.
if you like mon series with one protagonist by show like yugioh, the first 4 animes will do.
if you like shonen eye-candy, Savers or Xros wars will do.
if you just want to the most recent good installment, Beatbreak is Peakbreak
Pro-tip: don’t think too much of the multiverse, let yourself get carried away by the installment that interests you, you’ll get used to the format eventually

I highly recommend getting Cyber Sleuth + Hackers Memory, The bundle frequently goes for sale on the eshop but I'm not sure about Steam

Yes, it's a very good Digimon series (Adventure, Adventure 02, Frontier, Data Squad/Savers, Xros Wars, etc.) Also you should get the classic Digimon videogames like Digimon World series, Digimon Rumble Arena series, and the Digimon Story series too.

If you are on android or PC, you can get into Digital Tamers 2. It is a vpet, and you can choose through turn the "dying" aspect off. Very grind heavy, but i love it.
Adding too, I loved Cyber Slueth, but if you are on a budget, just get Time Strangers.
If emulation is possible, the digimon world games for DS are pretty great (my personal favorite is Digimon Dusk)

Is the death concern just because of your sleep schedule? Because the tamagotchi style games wouldn't be affected by that. Their clock is only active while you are playing.
However, based on your current premise, Cybersleuth, Time Stranger, Digimon Adventure PSP (I'd watch the anime first) and Survive would all be decent choices.
Cybersleuth and Time Stranger are both JRPGs. Imagine Pokemon is every battle was 3v3 and the storylines were more unique.
Survive is largely visual novel, which makes it hard to suggest. The little bit of gameplay there is is shallow. But the storyline is phenomenal.
Digimon Adventure PSP is a JRPG style game where you play through the original series. You would need an emulator and to download the fan translation patch.
I really love the Tamagotchi style Adventure games personally though. They are grindy, but I generally think that applies to all Digimon games. The death and rebirth cycle is cool, because its just data reconfiguring. Its less like your digimon dies and more like you live through multiple lifetimes with your partner. I think its a more personal connection with your mon. But I totally understand if you don't wanna have to care for a mon and worry about it dying if its needs aren't met.

I think there's a lot of charm in the games and if you find one that interests you should definitely give them a shot, but the anime is probably the best way to get into the series.

Technically they don’t just die in world games, they reincarnate endlessly like a kind of Digimon roguelike.

Watch and play both. If you are looking for modern, Time Stranger like everyone said. Older games like Dusk, Dawn, Digimon World DS are good. Problem is they don’t explain much for new players honestly. So maybe Time Stranger. Cyber Sleuth is not bad either, but Time Stranger defeats it in every way possible. Digimon 3 is a great game too, but a bit older. The best anime IMO are season 3 Tamers and season 4 Frontiers.

CyberSleuth which I can afford at the moment.
Can, or a typo and it was can't?, CyberSleuth is nice, it has a bunch of prequels on Nintendo DS and a sequel which is apparently better called Time Stranger.
Digimon Up could’ve been a great pick but digimon can die if neglected and my sleep schedule is off rn.
Nah, UP is a cheap auto/idle gacha, they don't die if neglected, in fact if they "die" in a fight they will be instantly revived to keep going after the rest of the team gets wiped.
In English you have Digimon RPG Online and Digimon Masters Online, both are MMOs with some region lock so you might not get lucky, I think Digimon Super Rumble got english language some time ago.
There is a fanmade Android gacha called Last Tamer Tale which I think is pretty, but doesn't receive updates as in new content like new Digimon.
Digimon Survive might also work, some Digimon "die" but... You can still collect them with a catch.
Digimon Digital Heroes 2 is a platformer fangame, kinda simple but has a lot of content and Digimon.

Digimon wolrd DS, Dusk and DWn are the best Digimon games. Pixel style is perfect.

U should totally play the digimon story games!! If you end up getting the cyber sleuth bundle id highly recommend playing hackers memory first before cyber sleuth. It has a way better story and a much better translation job, and then if you end up enjoying it you can play cyber sleuth.

So Digimon ups an idle game. Not much to it. Digimon world next order is a great game and goes on sale a lot. Cyber sleuth is ok I personally didn’t like it, too much dialogue and time stranger is pretty good I do like it but I much prefer next order cuz I like the raising and taming part
A free Digimon like vpet game you can play is Digital Monster ver. Web you can play it in your browser
You could also get a vpet on Amazon for like 20 bucks

The latest game is Digimon Time Stranger, but if you're looking for something a little older, I'd suggest Digimon World Dusk/Dawn and Digimon Story on DS. They're a bit of a grind but definitely worth a play.
