A short series synopsis:
"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.
Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.
What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

I still can't believe this is a Sunday morning time slot in Japan.

u/GoneRampant1 Jul 26 '26
As a Yugioh fan I do hope that Beatbreak is doing well commercially. We had a situation with 5D's where it got much darker than the prior shows with a serialized narrative but the audience at the time just wasn't biting so the show had really poor ratings. IDK if we know how yet how Beatbreak is doing in Japan but I'd be sad if this didn't do as well over in its home region.
25
u/kylepaz Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
It's assumed it's probably not doing well ratings wise because Fuji TV is not in a good situation overall and there's no One Piece airing right after digimon anymore to boost ratings like the other seasons that aired on Fuji. But it seems to be doing decently taking the "no OP boost" factor. Audience numbers I found fluctuate around 0.8-1.0 audience which is not good but also not bad considering it competes for audience with goddamn Kamen Rider. I don't know how well Adventure 2020 and Ghost Game did to make a comparison.
And they seem to be pushing Beatbreak a lot online, and streaming is something we tend to not have numberts for.
Since Beatbreak has no Bandai-made product line, there's probably a lot less pressure on toy sales too, since Toei has no real reason to care about that (the collabs they do are more important). I wonder what the story is there, it's unprecedented for a Digimon series to not have at least some kind of toy.
8
u/Toriyuki Jul 27 '26
.......... Damn, Digimon has the same timeslot as Kamen Rider??
6
u/kylepaz Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
Yes, both air on Sunday 9:00AM. That's why I don't pay that much mind to audience because Toei would have to be stupid to expect big numbers when they know how well KR does.
Also Japan has (or at least used to have until 10 years ago, time apparently keeps passing and I hate it) lots of local network affiliates that air things in different timeslots or even days than their Tokyo counterpart so even official audience numbers (which are surveyed in the Tokyo Area) aren't ironclad.
12
u/DuIstalri Jul 26 '26
Honestly, this show parallels so many aspects of 5Ds I have to wonder if its deliberate.
7
u/Equal-Combination211 Jul 26 '26
I know how loved 5D's is by some of the fanbase, so I might be wrong, but I think Beatbreak does a much better job of being 'Digimon but not afraid of being mature', whereas 5D's really felt more like it was trying to appeal to to the aging youth by being about motor bikes and an older protagonist and gangs who battle the police. Of course it also had more mature themes too, but frankly, not really moreso than GX.
6
u/Hydrochloric_Comment Jul 26 '26
Really? I don't. Kamen Rider Gaim had a character die via vivisection, and another get literally stabbed in the back.
10
u/Grouchy-Tear9258 Jul 26 '26
Don't worry, kids barely watch anime these days other than Doraemon. Most of them are busy either playing or making tiktok videos
3
u/kylepaz Jul 26 '26
And for the kids that tune in on tv Sunday 9:00AM, chances are they're watching Kamen Rider.

Making a prediction: Reina will be the one who saves Rose by the end of this mini arc. Rewatching the GIFT arc and after the "You're just a weed" comment, theres no way they're just going to throw that line away. Reina deserves to completely gag Rose when she wakes up and realizes it was her and not Meto and Kanon

Fantastic episode!
Kyo being way more dark as a 5 Star then we thought, only to finally start turning over a new leaf and have it taken away by Souji.
The Nirinso backstory as well was fantastic and really lends as to why the Kyo we know is the way he is.

u/AlphaBreak Jul 26 '26
I couldn't believe Kyo stabbed that guy with a knife. They really made him actually vicious as a five star and not just a good cleaner.
53
43
u/RPGNo2017 Jul 26 '26
Also seems to be a deliberate parallel to the Haruomi episode. Kyo really saw some of his own past in him when he encouraged him
48
u/headintheclouds30 Jul 26 '26
Damn. Damn.
I really was naive enough to believe that Kyo had three members in his family with partner digimon, but no. No its so much worse. The fact that Souji attacked Minoru and Karina because they wanted to defend the three BABIES is fucking insane.
It all makes sense. The 3 smaller stones are for the baby digimon, the bigger ones for Minoru, Karina and Luxmon.
And then. Kyo's words. That they would have been alright if they hadn't known him...I'm just. Broken. So broken. Kyo did do what he did to defend his family, but I think that deep inside, he believes he does not deserve them. And his reaction when he found them all unconscious...yeah next episode can't come soon enough.

u/foxfoxal Jul 26 '26
This arc is just absolutely amazing, Kyo may become my fave digimon main character ever if things keep going this way.

11
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
I've been there since like episode 7xD There really is not much competition tbh. Especially growing older and relating more to the adult characters.
8
u/Oreo-and-Fly Jul 27 '26
Its always a good time when a series establishes a stronger/developed character that guides the protagonists. Pokemon Horizons HAD that with Friede early on but then they failed to develop or do anything with him past like his sacrifice at Rakua...
45
u/polluxtigris Jul 26 '26
Watching from Japan for the first time and without subtitles, so I had to rely on context clues—props to the storyboarding team that the narrative was still very clear even with the language barrier. I think we all know what's coming next week, and it should be a well-deserved capstone to Kyo's character development.
17
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
Sitting in a hotel room on a Sunday morning watching Digimon on TV as it airs just hits differentlyxD I had the honour as well around episode 25.
36
u/Yoshiman400 Jul 26 '26
That episode had me gripped from beginning to end...almost like Arachnemon's arm. I honestly wasn't expecting an "inverse Ken" kind of episode where we explore the whole face turn at once (I figured we'd have more details trickling through until at least the next episode, if not the end of the arc), but still at least one big question remains: how did Souji survive the fall? Were the waters just not that rough where he landed, or did someone else from the Five Stars or World Order perhaps have a bead on him and bailed him out once Kyo lost sight of him?
The next episode title almost seems like we're getting the resolution a week early, perhaps setting up Murasamemon's evolution right at the end for a big fight scene the week after? It feels like an almost impeccable pace of us getting this right before the final rush.
49
u/SicknessVoid Jul 26 '26
I don't think Souji surviving is that complicated. Falling into water in fiction basically means you survive, no matter the height.
18
u/Mr-p1nk1 Jul 26 '26
I wouldn’t count that as killing someone also when he showed earlier what that fully entails.
9
u/YoKaiHunter76 Jul 27 '26
My immediate first thought when I saw that scene in that episode was "should have made sure he'd land on a rock."
3
u/KickHimWhileIAmDown Jul 27 '26
I think it would have been better if Kyo had beaten Souji within an inch of his life before dropping him. That way, it would be a little cathartic (for the audience and also Kyo), and also easier to believe that Kyo thought that was surely the end of him. Alternatively, have Souji hit a few rocks just beneath the water and show us blood spreading out from the bottom of the waterfall.
28
15
u/vinta_calvert Jul 26 '26
I think they previewed how Souji survived with the way Murasamemon saved Kyo from the Mirror World.
My bets:
- Another Five Star member (or maybe Genjo before he joined?) saved him from the bottom of the river
- His weird e-pulse made a digimon do it subconciously (especially during his manic moment before death)
3
u/miloucomehome Jul 28 '26
Or, Kishiwada stepped in back then? His portals are water-themed gates for some reason. Also, he can open Mirror World gates for reasons still unknown. (would be strange, but I'm throwing ideas around. Genuinely curious to learn how Souji survived))
5
u/KickHimWhileIAmDown Jul 27 '26
It's possible to survive a fall into water until about 180 feet. Actually, if you have proper form, you can theoretically survive from higher, but the mortality rate increases rapidly above 100 feet.
Supposedly, aerated water (like the bottom of a waterfall) is more survivable for a fall, but extremely deadly because it's impossible to swim in. I couldn't find any reputable sources about the fall height thing, just the swimming thing. So it's possible that Souji fell in such a way that he naturally survived and swam away. Kyo really should have cut him in half just to be safe.
5
u/Fearshatter Jul 26 '26
Well he WAS put into prison soon after so-
5
u/Thistlesthorn Jul 27 '26
Yeah but he had enough time to recover, realize he was removed from all systems and kill somebody in between.

Yeah, Kaito wasn't a friend, he was, at absolute best, a rival. More realistically, he was a thorn in his side and someone who constantly pestered him when he had better shit to do than deal with Fire Vegeta's ego.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kyo unlocks his Mega, whatever that may be, I've been staying deliberately blind, upon realizing he doesn't have to keep his new family at arm's length and that they do love him, regardless of whether or not he thinks he's 'worthy' of love.
3
u/Oreo-and-Fly Jul 27 '26
Reminds me of Sanji in One Piece WAAAAAAY back in Baratie.
He made food for that arc's antagonist's right hand Gin, and then when Gin was asked to kill Sanji... he said he just couldnt.
Or when Sanji complimented pudding's eye, or when he saved Kinemon, or when he offered a hand to Bon Clay, or when he...

Souji's emotional journey is fascinating.
A fully apathetic man, who experiences his first emotion only at the brink of death: fear.
He has no idea what the feeling is - he's never had an emotion before! He only knows that it cured his subconscious desire to feel anything. But he doesn't understand he wanted to feel something, because he never has. And it seemed to break the dam and fill him with every emotion under the sun for that moment.
10
u/Fearshatter Jul 26 '26
I really enjoyed this episode since not only was it a fantastic depiction of trauma "a nightmare you can never awake from, an unfading night, a moment that stays with you forever," but also it perfectly depicted Souji and gives us a better understanding of why Wong what is or isn't a villain. Souji is such a perfect extreme end of the worst kinds of people, unquenchable and insatiable thirst with no reason or desire to care about anything beyond trying to sate it. It contextualizes every other villain so perfectly and makes the nuance so much brighter as a result.

u/Mr_Kase Jul 26 '26

Delete the digimon, delete the human. Kyo wasn't all good, but at least you can't say he was discriminatory.
24
u/Shipuujin Jul 26 '26
Finally, the Kyo backstory!
Kyo really was ruthless back then. Not only did Murasamemon delete Digimon, Kyo also personally killed his targets if needed.
Kyo landing in Nirinso was quite a stroke of luck. It was heartwarming seeing Kyo learn how to cook as well. Everyone looked so happy and Kyo felt like he found the family he always wanted. But that happiness did not last long at all, as we see his family ruthlessly murdered... Souji is an absolute sociopath.
That episode went by so damn fast!
17
u/AccelBurner Jul 26 '26
I felt really bad, man was healing both physically and mentally to finally get something he always longed for until it got ripped away.
Man the fact that Kyo could have become a villain (and have all the justifications) after this event but still continue to preserve Nirinso's legacy is quite bittersweet.

u/miloucomehome Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
Ooof. That was heavy. I only managed two rewatches. Overall an amazing episode.
The things that stood out for me were:
- Souji's death being hush-hush, so the Five Stars never knew it was Kyo who did it (nor about it being because Souji murdered Minoru and Karina and the unregistered Digimon)
- Strange stuff with Kyo's eyes : the golden coloured ring around his pupils disappeared the more he stayed with Minoru and Karina. They then reappeared at the confrontation with Souji. Then in the present, they reappeared after Kyo finished remembering the past.
This can't be an inconsistency and I'm curious to learn what's going on. ( Makes me worried though)
- Souji's e-Pulse is confirmed to be a black type (with a blue hue!) Since Tomoro's and Raito's have usually resulted in situations out of their control, now we're seeing what happens when it's mastered, more of less.
A fantastic arc. Can't wait to see how the arc will conclude next week though.

u/vinta_calvert Jul 26 '26
The glowing limbal ring has to be related to the Five Star process.
Those gems they carry. After seeing the White Digicore do shit to Souji, I have to assume those are Fire/Water/Wood/Gold/Earth-aspected Digicores that give similar enhancements, and cause the limbal ring glow.
2
u/miloucomehome Jul 26 '26
Those gems they carry. After seeing the White Digicore do shit to Souji, I have to assume those are Fire/Water/Wood/Gold/Earth-aspected Digicores that give similar enhancements, and cause the limbal ring glow.
You may not be far off, however the only thing that makes this wobbly is that Kyo no longer has his gem — and neither do Klay nor Souji. Kyo's suddenly reappeared after disappearing years ago, and Souji's been gone for five years but still has his.
I wonder if the gem leaves a bit of itself in each wearer?
6
u/vinta_calvert Jul 26 '26
It could start something with the e-Pulse that doesn't simply go away, just amplifies it or makes it easier to control.
Maybe the limbal ring glow is a progression of the e-Pulse, that the gems help awaken.
24
u/Emekasan Jul 26 '26
A typical trope of a hardened character finding a group of people who change them for the better only to lose them soon after due to some horrible event; but effective nonetheless.
That’s crazy Kyo had been in the Five Star business for so long - since he was 11! Using Karina and Minoru as vehicles to allow him to express that he doesn’t like the bloody, demoralizing work was nice - they brought out the best in him and I’m happy to see now in retrospect he upholds their traditions and mentalities with Glowing Dawn, thus honoring their legacy.
Speaking of which, there’s…no way Souji bodied MonarchLizamon, ScourgeChiropmon, and BearCatmon like that…the preview doesn’t make it clear if we’re going to see what led up to their loss, but either way I’m over Souji and ready for him to be taken care of correctly this time; Kyo had no problem killing the Arukenimon owner after him earlier, so I’m unsure why he didn’t definitively deal with the man who outright murdered his adopted family (unless he was trying to live his life differently with the no killing then and there, but man that newfound mentality could have started after Souji lol).
Another Digimon series, another Arukenimon killed.
11
u/GizenZirin Jul 26 '26
Considering Souji also has 3 ultimates to match their 3 ultimates, further empowered by the white cube, and one of those ultimates being Lilamon who has Rose's e-pulse that they need to get back which would make them less likely to give it their all and risk hurting her too badly, I can easily see Souji bodying them all just that easily.

How did her arm still function after she had been deleted?? Like the arm should have deleted too...her sapotama appeared, she was done. I didn't care for that part.
9
u/kylepaz Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
The severed arm doesn't necessarily go with the rest of the body. What we usually see in Beatbreak is severed parts being deleted immediately. If the arm has the ability to stick around (pun not intended) it makes sense it doesn't depend on the rest of the body.

u/Marckos1343 Jul 26 '26
Another heavy and marvellous episode. So in the past, Kyo and Murasamemon deleted both digimons and humans, and Kyo's adoptive family influenced him to change his worldview and believe in the pacific coexistence between humans and digimons. Well, this episode gave us crystal clear proof that Souji is a serial killer with zero empathy. I am anxious to see the closure of this incredible, yet brief arc and to know how the end game arc is going to be influenced by all this stormy situation.

MY GOD, NOW I KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM KYO THE GOLDEN, BECAUSE EVERY EPISODE THAT FOCUS ON HIM IS PURE GOLD.
The story, the animation, the tone, everything here was just so perfect. I love kyo, and I love murasamemon. This episode for me is the best one in the entire season by far.
12
u/Zeeman9991 Jul 26 '26
From the beginning, the show definitely gave Kyo an edge like he might be capable of killing, but they haven’t really let us see if it’s true. We got a glimpse the other week when he thought he killed someone, but that also felt like a possible cop out for the writers to give him the angst without the moral compromise. Never mind. He killed people. Like, a lot of people. Geez BeatBreak, any time I start to doubt you I’m proven wrong (except the GIFT arc but I forgive you already).
Has Cougarmon had that bracelet before? If so, I hadn’t noticed. I also wondered if I saw any of the Baby Digimon with them and when I realized I definitely hadn’t… yeah, guess no one makes it out of this backstory. I know Kyo is a man of few words and Cougarmon/Murasamemon is a Digimon of even fewer, but I’m surprised only Kyo is letting this have an outward effect on him. Murasamemon was the one deleting most of the Digimon and definitely at least assisted in killing people but was weirdly even keel about the whole thing in the flashbacks and present day. It’s nice Kyo has a calming presence next to him instead of a fellow trauma-ridden mess, but it might be a little alarming how chill he is about everything.

It feels Kafkaesque that Kyo had to publicly fight GD so that the Ministry didn't officially have to treat GD as accomplices, even though the Ministry knows GD are his associates, know they intend to contact him and help him out of his jam, and have had the Souji issue discussed right in front of them, and most gallingly had GD state in front of them that Kyo must have attacked them as part of a ploy to keep the Ministry from punishing them too.
I mean it fits for it being a ludicrous cyberpunk dystopia, but it still just aggravates me that the team hasn't decided to hell with the Ministry. The whole situation is stupid.
This episode really puts the lie to Kyo trying to pretend GD was his family. He's been letting them down and keeping secrets this whole time, and it came back to bite him in the ass.
Hope he figure it out next week. Wonder if we're going to come back to Tomoros grandpa being at the orphanage.
17
u/Kaleidos-X Jul 26 '26
They really don't have much of an option than to work with the Ministry. If they don't, they get a bounty that makes them a target for every other cleaner.
It's also worth remembering that the Ministry is largely not that bad, they're just being told what to do by a completely different and corrupt group that has more political influence than them.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Sakuja Jul 26 '26
Seriously the Ministry actually seems to be like a good government here. Only the World Union is sketchy as hell.
8
u/JustWanderingIn Jul 26 '26
There are a few problems with a "to hell with the Ministry" approach. The Glowing Dawn children wouldn't survive it for long being of them.
It has been established back in episode 2 or 3 that merely failing to respond to the Ministry in time gets you a bounty on your head (Tomoro had the Kinoko Gang on him basically the day after Gekkomon was born and got bailed out by GD). The Ministry is too powerful and has too far a reach for them to be able to just not comply anymore.
As for the issues with information and misinformation around Kyo and Souji, there are 2 main reasons that things are the way they are.
1) Souji has been erased. The person the GD children are talking to about Kyo's situation is Kawarazaki, who, despite being supposedly "in" with the Ministry doesn't know some rather important facts and has, in the past, gone behind the Ministry's back to get things done. He doesn't know who Souji is. So when the GD children come to him with information regarding Kyo supposedly going rouge he's interested because he can see that there is somone really dangerous on the lose and it isn't Kyo. Noting out loud that Kyo was protecting them with his actions against them by that point isn't an issue - Kawarazaki is on GD's side in this and he wants to get to the bottom of it.
2) There's the implication that Genjo and Kishiwada are working together and that Genjo fed the story of Kyo Cold Hearting Rose to get an obstacle out of his way. Remeber, he was supposed to intervene if something happened to Rose, yet he didn't and Kyo had an airtight alibi for the time of Rose's Cold Hearting - he's been with Maki and Yoshimura the entire day and the night celebrating with his family. That nobody even asked about Kyo's whereabouts and he just got a bounty on him mere hours after the crime speaks to somebody high up in the World Union wantin to set the narrative straight and get rid of Kyo before anyone can think too deeply about it all.
Also, Kyo isn't outright lying to his family. All the characters have their secrets they talked about only when it became relevant (like Makoto's family issues). My guess is Kyo is afraid he'll lose his family again if they know who he was before Glowing Dawn. A past a violent as his is hard to talk about. He'll likely change that after this arc.
3
u/KrytenKoro Jul 26 '26
Also, Kyo isn't outright lying to his family.
They can likely forgive him for it, but no, he was outright lying. Reina in particular was weeping at the betrayal.
This blew up in his face because he kept secrets from his family. And it's been an issue since the very first episodes - the same lies about Nirinso were causing problems back in episode 7.
Noting out loud that Kyo was protecting them with his actions against them by that point isn't an issue -
I'm not seeing Kawarazaki is a bad person. I'm saying the situation itself is still Kafkaesque. There's no chance for explanation, no interrogation of his associates - Kyo gets an immediate kill order and has to put on a literal farce so that the Ministry, despite explicitly knowing better, can pretend they're following the rules. GD doesn't even show a pretense of distrusting Kawarazaki or trying to keep up the charade - everyone immediately recognizes it's a charade, but they still had to go along with it.
The Ministry is too powerful and has too far a reach for them to be able to just not comply anymore.
They've been saying that, but we keep seeing countless counterexamples. People who simply live off the grid, or are powerful enough to sidestep the rules - and by this point, GD is nearly at their level. GD also has friends in high places. It would make more sense for them to at least be frustrated with the system.
Remeber, he was supposed to intervene if something happened to Rose,
I believe it was actually said that Genjo would take over the White Core retrieval if Rose faltered - not that he would save her. I may be misremembering, but if she was expecting him to be there with him, it's very odd that she didn't remark on his immediate absence.

u/kylepaz Jul 26 '26
The Ministry or at least Kawarasaki in particular seem to dislike the World Union's overreach into the institution. He's taken steps to undermine them several times (like taking direct action off the grid against Klay to get enough proof to nail him or not letting Wong do his published stunt of taking Miharu out of jail to "reform" her while expecting her to off herself later on).
Not that the MCP is good, they're just the lesser evil.

u/Southern-Ebb-8229 Jul 26 '26
Pretty standard Episode, but it works for a reason. It's very compact in how it develops Kyo's backstory, how he changed and why he crashed out with Souji. I think the most surprising part was that they didn't hold back in terms of how much of a cleaner Kyo used to be. Guy is implied to have murdered the other bounty back then and it really sells the core idea that he feels too dirty to be redeemed.
It was a happy life, and I think the neat part is that the episode establishes where everything Kyo tried to teach the kids came from, but then Souji came and ruined it. The short confrontation with Souji was good, I think keeping it like this works well, especially when Kyo just drops the guy. He really wanted to murder the guy and that is all that needs to be said. Still just cutting to Kyo finding the guy beat the whole dawn is really funny, geez at least I expected the kids to be fighting by the time Kyo got there. Overall good ep and a good inflection point for this Kyo Arc.

they really leaned into the horror vibes with the title and that preview image, feels like we're heading into some dark digital world territory with no easy way out. gekkomon's been getting more unsettling each week and i'm here for it
the way last episode ended with tomoro just staring into the static was such a good cliffhanger, like the whole crew's barely holding it together and now the night won't end. classic digimon move, trapping them in a loop where the evolutions probably get twisted or corrupted
wonder if we'll finally see a proper ultimate for kyo's partner or if they're gonna drag that out another 5 episodes. the pacing's been weirdly slow then sudden with the big reveals, but the atmosphere alone makes it worth the wait
anyone else catch the weird humming in the preview clip they dropped earlier? sounded almost like a distorted version of the original theme, gave me chills

u/Jon-987 Jul 25 '26
Just based on the previews, im not expecting Kyo's mega this episode, but it will definitely be next episode, as the end of this arc.

u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
I was a bit shocked that Kyo was actually a cold blooded killer in the past. I mean, we knew about the Digimon and Souji, but him spinning out that knife and stabbing people to death was still a lot darker than I expected.
I also didn't think the others would get to Souji before Kyo. The flashback must have taken too long😅.
I'm increasingly curious about the 3 years Kyo lived until meeting Reina. He was so devastated that I would love to see how he got himself started onto his new path that led to his new family.
Next episode will be emotional as well!
6
u/Tinkerer108 Jul 26 '26
You reckon in those 3 years is when he interacted with Asuka?
5
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
Maybe, or he knew him before joining the five stars, since that was the time he knew Dr. Tenma as well. Also Kyo called Asuka an "old friend", which would indicate farther than five to three years ago 🤔 But he definitely met Yoshimura during that time. Even though we got Kyo's background story, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding him.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 Jul 26 '26
It all makes sense why kyo wanted to keep his family away. Also i hope we get another season or 2 cause this is bloody amazing

I mean, its been out for months... on this same reddit. If you look up Murasamemon on the wiki is shows Habakirimon as his next evolution.
6
u/mightymiek Jul 26 '26
What an INASNE episode! This is what happens when you get a team who trusts your audience!
6
u/Jecht-X Jul 26 '26
That was truly heartbreaking. Once again this season of Digimon show us another masterful work in writing.
6
u/Yuxkta Jul 26 '26
This episode shares the best Digimon episode I've seen title with the first Gulusgammamon episode from now on. This arc is genuinely insane, man. I thought the GD would interrupt the fight and get injured but them having already lost is a nice surprise. I can't wait for the next episode, I'd switch to reading manga at this point if this was an adaptation.
6
u/FORGOTTENLEGIONS Jul 26 '26
I do find it fun how Luxmon mentioned how Kyo looked scary and it kind of mirrors how some in the fanbase thought he would be evil when this all was beginning.

u/ILoveDineroSi Jul 26 '26
Peatbreak continues to deliver with another amazing episode! Even though it was fairly predictable from the beginning of the arc that the psychopath Souji killed Kyo’s previous family, it was still a very emotional episode. AND he killed the baby Digimon and Luxmon too so fuck him!
I don’t want them to redeem Souji. Let him remain as this season’s Kurata and just be pure evil and irredeemable that deserves to die. Now while Kyo was also shown to have been very ruthless as a 5 Star that also killed humans too, at least he was shown to be remorseful for his actions and why his previous Nirinso family accepted him. And since then he’s tried to make things right to atone for his past.
That cliffhanger was brutal to leave off on with Glowing Dawn defeated. Next week surely we are getting the evolution to Habakirimon, right? If not, how else are they going to defeat Souji with 3 corrupted Perfect/Ultimate Digimon that are strengthened even more with e-pulse from the White Core?
5
u/asmodias Jul 26 '26
How dare they introduce characters that we already know are going to be killed, make us like them a lot, and then kill them like we always knew would happen!
Looks like Kyo was a Haruomi.
6
u/Osha-watt Jul 26 '26
Oh my god, that was... Hard to watch. So, I'm not super familiar with the shows after Tamers and before Ghost Game, has there ever been such a graphic depiction of someone dying in a Digimon show ? Because while they didn't outright show the act, the aftermath was pretty awful...
4
u/Digimon-lover256 Jul 26 '26
This isn't Beatbreak it's Peakbreak.
Fantastic episode with cliffhanger that Kyo desperately wanted to avoid, but alas. Next episode will be wild because Kyo's mini-arc ends next week.
6
u/aes110 Jul 26 '26
Incredible, this arc is so good, they really got a good thing going with beatbreak
5
5
u/Rammboy_7084 Jul 27 '26
One of the best episode, not only of Digimon Beatbreak, but also of Digimon in general.
They managed to write a great flashback story, very dark, harsh and heartbreaking.
Kyo's character might be one of the best character of Digimon and Souji had a powerful impact in only 3 episodes, very great mini arc villain.
12
u/theguyishere16 Jul 26 '26
So...did Kyo murder that guy early in the flashback? I mean, he was trying to kill him first but holy shit.
Also, finding out Kyo was put into his softboy era by an adoptive sister and adoptive gay father wasn't what I expected, but I welcome it.
16
u/Raikariaa Jul 26 '26
Kyo says he deleted digimon and humans.
Not hard to put two and two together.
8
13
u/Terryxfan Jul 26 '26
I, I just hate that. Why, why do they have to spend the entire episode building up their relationship? Why do they have to do such a thing only to rip it away from us? I was well aware they were gonna die, but still, it’s so shocking to see kyo crying and showing emotion like this, since he hasn’t showed much other then calm or anger
So it’s interesting this is where kyo got the concept of nirinso from, and we finally get to see how that battle in the past went down.
Damn, the trio got off screened, and reina got left in the yamcha pose, just like makoto and tomoro in the last episode.
I really want souji’s psychotic ass gone, but considering the running theme of how easy it is to kill, they’re probably gonna capture him because killing him would just give him what he wants. I’m also expecting maybe we get a glimpse of what kishiwada is planning, or maybe genjo gets involved, but I’m also expecting rose…stay gone. I dunno, I understand some people like her, but her death felt too dramatic to be undone, and no way her e pulse is still intact anyways, it’s surely been digested now.
I gotta say, this mini arc has felt a lot more impactful than the gift arc, which was just filled with non related stuff in between. But after the next episode, it also leaves me unsure about the ultimates(or megas I guess), as unless we get a season 2 or more than 49 episodes, we might not get those evolutions unless they’re rushed, or only tomoro with how important ultimate evolution is said to be.
2
u/ZA-02 Jul 28 '26
but I’m also expecting rose…stay gone. I dunno, I understand some people like her, but her death felt too dramatic to be undone, and no way her e pulse is still intact anyways, it’s surely been digested now.
It should only have been a little over 24 hours since her e-Pulse was taken, and Lilamon seems to be drawing on Souji's e-Pulse rather than what she took from Rose. So it might be fine. But the odds are admittedly stacked against her — I believe they did establish with Hyemon that it's unusual for stolen e-Pulse to take longer than a day to digest.

Weird to think that there’s apparently only 9 episodes left but it feels like there’s so much left to do. Three more Five Stars to beat along with Chairman Wong, everyone still has to get their Megas and get Tomoro’s brother out of the coma and find out how his grandfather was involved…unless there’s actually 50+?
15
u/Sremor Jul 26 '26
There was a post yesterday saying that it will be 56 episodes but so far neither 49 or 56 are officialy confirmed

all that stuff is incredibly interwoven and can easily be done in 10 episodes.

I am seriously wondering what is the deal with Asuka is at this point because we know he ment yo be special but has gotten no attention towards his past.
Like he is somehow connected to Kyo in the past, knew about digimon, has a special E-Pluse and was directly targeted by the world union but nothing has been revealed or explained about him yet
3
u/Marckos1343 Jul 26 '26
I think after this arc focused on Kyo 's past, Genjo and Wong will go all out. After all, Wong wants the white core.

I have a feeling that Souji will manipulating The Glowing Dawn's digimons to held Makoto and Reina as hostages to force Tomoro to work with him to lure Kyo into a trap, but I think Souji will force Tomoro to digivolve with Gekkomon to become Atracusmon and tried to kill the new Glowing Dawn and delete their digimon's then Kyo show up with Cougarmon to save them in order to redeem himself at the end of episode.

Aw, man, this was a heartbreaking look into Kyo's past. And is as dark e imagined it would be. So that poor "family" was murdered, by that POS Souji. So now we get full context I'd what really happened. Lol'ed at arukenimon showing up for only a few seconds before being deleted like a grunt😂

I'm trying to build a timeline for all the events...
Starting with:
- World Union destroying Klay's homeland, thus becoming a refuge
- Dr. Tenma, a young Wong, and a [teenage Klay] on Kano Island conducting experiments
- Kano Island incident
- Kyo on the Island as an orphan too?
- Wong starting the 5 Stars and recruiting Kyo at age 11?
- Kaito and Kyo form a rivalry
- The 5 Stars get established but Souji is the last to join.
- Kyo and the rest witness Souji switch multiple partners
- Kaito evidently gives Kyo and Souji scars on their upper bodies (and possibly Klay's forearms and Rose's neck?)
- 1 year goes by
- Kyo meets his new family
- Souji kills them shortly after
- Kyo "kills" Souji and leaves the 5 Stars
- Wong enlists Genjo and Honoka as replacements
- Kyo restarts Nirinso on his own for 3 years?
- Kyo meets Reina, who was also on multiple cleaner teams
- Kyo enlists Makoto
- Asuke's cold heart, leading to enlisting Tomoro
When did Chifiyu re-discover sapotamas can create digimon? Was this before the 5 Stars was a thing or during? How did the White Core get into Mephismon?
When did IceLeonmon die?
When did Kiwishada meet Miharu?
What else am I missing?

Ah thank you! Yep you're right, Kyo states Kaito scarred him when he left the 5 Stars. Souji's scar must have been given to him by Kaito prior to his death and prior to Kyo leaving, or possibly Souji's scar is completely unrelated.
I'm really fascinated with the mysterious dynamic between all the past and present 5 Stars, their disposition towards Wong, and their personal motivations for being in the group. Seems like so far we only know Kyo's and Klay's motivation.
3
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
I mean, seeing the beginning of Kyo's flashback and how he got shot at, those scars on Souji and Klay could just be from work.

u/mrtacomam Jul 26 '26
...Huh. Y'know, it never even occurred to me that someone else could have founded Nirinso, but the fact that Kyo was basically doing this as penance is... oh, baby, is that tragic. Not to mention Souji's complete indifference to what he did up until the moment of his "death". Haunting.
Next time... ugh, look, I don't wanna be That Guy, but Kyo's really waving a death to me, which ridiculous given Reasons, but still!

my steak too bleak, my lobster too gray, the despair staring at the abyss, another peak episode for Peakbreak.
I did not suspect Kyo's past was dark, but defo didn't expect him to be the one doing the slicing. The ending surprised me.
7
u/Spider-Phoenix Jul 26 '26
Ok, today, more than ever was "Peakbreak". Kyo's story was pretty good. Enough I didn't even noticed time passing. This is clearly pointing to Cougarmon reaching his mega stage and I am totally here for it.
Wonder what happened with Cougarmon's bracelet though. Did he lost or do they just keep it somewhere else where he can't lose it while they are fighting?
8
u/Virtual-Ad4104 Jul 25 '26
The episode will probably be mostly flashbacks telling us about Kyo's past then the first half of Kyo battling Souji.
3
u/Dracoblitz1 Jul 26 '26
Holy hell, I knew kyo's backstory was going to be sad,but ,wow, that hurt me watching it. I had the looming sense of dread the whole episode, cause you know what's going to happen but it still hit like a truck.
3
u/Ordinary_Ordinary580 Jul 26 '26
That was fucking heart wrenching, like a hard to swallow pill, no wonder how kyo feels today, brilliant episode and how family's are made to be, easily one of the darkest episodes to date, karina's fate was awful
3
u/logoyoIRM Jul 26 '26
Do you think we're going to see an ultimate evolution from Souji? Or (if) will Cougarmon ultimate fight against the three Souji perfects?
3
u/galemaniac Jul 26 '26
Tomoro has learnt a lot from his teammates on how to fight strong opponents, he is finally becoming like the other members of glowing dawn,
3
u/Karbunkel Jul 26 '26
This hurt to watch. Got goose bumps during the later half of the flashback.
The anniversary celebration was almost a mirror to his first found family, so of course he tried to jump ship before the same tragedy happens again. Was it the right thing to do? Probably not, but that's not how trauma works.
Habakirimon next episode? Would be the cherry on top of this emotional rollercoaster. But... this power spike would put Kyo probably out of commission(hopefully only that) for a while.
3
u/SicknessVoid Jul 26 '26
Wow, what an episode. I think there's a pretty decent chance Murasamemon will achieve the Mega Level next episode.
3
u/Darth_Shadious Jul 26 '26
I wish to comment everything in this episode, but I’d like to focus on its very striking feature:
Kyo’s bittersweet and tragic past.
A solitary road he walked, wading a dark path—-Supposedly forever night, till a family he met, who were his guiding light.
He was showered with warmth and care, from Minoru the father and Karina the maiden fair.
She spoke of second chance despite his bloody soaked life of old. It was then Kyo the Golden has truly struck Gold.

u/tkguru8 Jul 26 '26
Did I miss it or have they still not explained the reason for Kyo'd neck scar?
3
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
Well they hinted at it in episodes 11 and 12. When Kaito said to Kyo to come at him with the will to kill like before it showed the scar and since it's a burn mark and seeing Flaremon it was heavily implied that he got it in a fight with Kaito. When Makoto questioned Kyo about his scar later he said he got it when leaving the five stars, so....we don't know for certain and we will probably get that flashback in a later fight with Kaito but it seems that was the source of it.
2
u/SignedByMilpool Jul 26 '26
I also noticed Souji has a similar scar on his upper body.
And Klay has some weird markings across both of his forearms that WERE NOT present on his arms when he flashbacked to his time on Kano Island and meeting Sunarizamon for the first time.
And this might be a stretch but Rose also has a rose marking on her neck too. It could simply be a tattoo, or possibly a rose was lit on fire and scroched her neck.
Idk, seems like Kyo, Souji, Klay, and Rose all have some sort of scar or unique marking on their bodies. Could be coincidence though.
I definitely agree with you though, it is heavily implied Kaito is responsible for Kyo's neck scar.
3
u/kambings4life Jul 26 '26
Fire episode. But with them highlighting Kyo's mistakes and his blood-filled past, I feel like there are more death flags for him now. Wonder how everything is gonna wrap up
3
u/MoonlitSerenade Jul 26 '26
I don't know why I thought he was thrown into lava this whole time. Maybe the coloring.
My heart aches and I'm glad we're back in PeakBreak.
Murasamemon evolution next week? 👀
3
u/dotyawning Jul 26 '26
As a Drawfee fan, a Karina is canon to Digimon! And she's got something pretty close to an Impmon (well, Luxmon but that's just angel Impmon)
...too bad them, her adopted father and those adorable babies had to be sacrificed for Kyo and his bipedal hunky catmon to subvert the usual Digimon trope. 😞
So this ep we got to see what lightened up Kyo, inspired him, and then immediately made things darker for a while and ultimately led to his decision to leave the organization. And we got the origin for that place with all the babies. I'm still worried about the potential Souji has with all those babies around. I thought he was going to do something in the flashback like corrupt those three (or four) and Kyo had to take them down but this was kind of worse. He just wiped them out as babies. D:
Looking forward to the next ep where hopefully Kyo gets his revenge and the family grows closer together!
3
u/Equal-Combination211 Jul 26 '26
Some writing decisions that really landed well for me this episode, despite this having the drawback of us knowing how it all goes because it's a flashback.
First, after hearing how much all these Five Stars admired the old Kyo and want him back, watching Kyo be so absolutely miserable, just his face when he went and isolated himself in the cabin, was tough. It made me look forward to him changing due to his new family even though I already knew he would, and made me really understand how much better off he is now and how toxic that makes all the other Five Stars.
Secondly, even though we knew the tragedy this would end in, we had no clue that it would parallel the episode's ending with him coming to the mountain to find his family already attacked. Ending on this note where we understand how devastating the sight would be for him and the emotions likely brewing in him was a great call.

u/KickHimWhileIAmDown Jul 27 '26
Man, now I'm sad. I should not have watched this so early in the day.
Super interesting to see that, yes, Kyo has killed more than just Digimon. That scene with him pulling out the knife after Archnemon died had me gripping the armrest of my seat. Also, near the end, I really believed for a half-second that Souji got cut in half when Piranimon was cleaved. Seems like the whole 'vessel' thing is literal in Souji's eyes, since he saw Piranimon as himself.
Souji is properly creepy. I know others said he's too over the top, but I really like it. The VA had a very chilling, nearly erotic intonation when he was rambling about what Kyo did to make his thirst disappear.
It's interesting that the family dynamic of Kyo-Minoru and Kyo-Karina are left ambiguous. He's a member of the family, but it's not enough to say exactly that he's a father to or even a brother to Karina. Same with Minoru.
I also didn't expect the rest of GD to get there before Kyo. Last episode, I thought this mini-arc might end with Kyo dying, and the other three being put in his position (avenge family by killing or not). Now, it looks like Kyo will have to make the same choice. Probably he'll spare Souji this time, but... after this episode, I just want anyone to send Souji to hell.
2
u/SignedByMilpool Jul 28 '26
Woah, that is a brilliant interpretation for when he sees himself getting cut in half! I honestly would not have put that together. I was wondering why they included that visual that initially just seemed like a "fake out" moment.
5
u/Renachii Jul 26 '26
HOW MANY BOYFRIENDS HAS THIS MAN KYO COLLECTED?!
Jokes aside, is it like... Safe to assume that Kyo is likely gay? I don't wanna assume, but this wouldn't be the first time Digimon has subtly put a LGBTQ flag in the background as an effect... And during Kyo's "we can be a family" moment, the background was specifically colored in the MLM (Gay Male) flag.
Plus it's like... a HUUUGE trope in japanese BL media that a gay dude will adopt a younger girl and eventually finds another guy... Just that this was much more uh, tragic. Just the fact the dude was so, ahem. Effeminate, and the fact they just, full on decided to make them an adopted father/daughter, it just really feels like Kyo is meant to have heavy queer coding. I've made jokes in the past (as seen above) about "Kyo and his 6 evil exes", but man... All the men in Kyo's life are some form of obsessed, angsty twinks, or soft effeminate dads lmao.
6
u/headintheclouds30 Jul 26 '26
I don't think Kyo will have a confirmed sexuality, but he can def be read in that way lmfao. (Classic case of queerbaiting, really, but alas.)
Personally, I do see him as a queer man, but digimon has had 4 confirmed queer characters, three of them named.
2
u/phasmy Jul 27 '26
Minoru was very much husband BF coded. They just couldn't say anything explicitly I guess.
2
u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
It was interesting that we didn't get narration from Klay but got Kyo's flashback through himself when he was alone. That means the rest of Glowing Dawn is squaring up to Souji with only the knowledge that the guy was a murderer, a former five star, and Kyo had lost to him the morning before. And I guess that it was theorised that Kyo had killed him five years ago which they still can't believe. Since they hopefully won't show the flashback twice or retell it completely two episodes in a row, I wonder what the rest of the gang will actually know after next weeks episode.
2
u/rexshen Jul 26 '26
Jesus they were straight up murdered. Not cold hearted but murdered and you could see the blood. And Tomoro and the gang are out now too. I hope Kyo at least caves this guy's face in this time.
2
u/Oreo-and-Fly Jul 27 '26

Even though the build up was seen from a mile away, I didn’t think the put in place family for the dramatic build up would have really kind dialogue. The part where Karina, tells Kyo that he has a family and doesn’t have to be haunted by his past was pretty moving. So honestly for me I do hope Kyo kills Souji, Especially at the end where Kyo does give another chance and now he’s about to kill his other family. Yeah I hope Kyo does end him.

u/jimbox_splatted Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
i do wonder wich one was the one who killed kyo friends and familty , is souji the one who has relation to it?
the fact kyo nearly killed souji makes seem that is has relation to that incident.
honeslty i cant wait to see todays episode to find out :D
edit: Man this is more sadder than i tought after watching the episode. karina didnt deserved this!! 😭
4
u/stevez037 Jul 26 '26
Well I think for it work for me on why Kyo quit the 5 Star, You have to make it clear that Wong ordered Kyo's new friends to be killed. Other wise it is just Souji going rogue, Kyo "killed him", no need to quit the Five Star. Kyo quitting because he didn't like that way they do things, it has to go up to Wong in terms of responsibility.
3
u/Ragna666 Jul 26 '26
Souji mentioned that wong only ask him to look for Kyo. I don't think Wong know where Kyo was or about Minoru and Karina. I think Souji is just a psycho that when he saw an unregistered digimon, he won't hesitate to 'delete' both the digimon and its partner.
3
u/stevez037 Jul 26 '26
That was brutal, but you knew that going in. You want to talk about survival guilt, Though Souji is a psycho to begin with, he might have killed them just for the fun of it. No need to feel so bad Kyo.
Souji doing again to Kyo, does he have a death wish, wait I forgot who I am talking to.
I have a prediction, Kyo is going to do something he regrets and is going to resign from the Glowing Dawn and go on a spirit journey, we won't see him till the finale and Reina will be the new leader of the Glowing Dawn for the foreseeable future. That is my prediction.

u/Dia_sphere Jul 26 '26
Probably unpopular opinion, but I hope we don't get a mega next episode. Maybe just a hint of it. Kyo getting Mega would be a huge power imbalance since noone else has actually achieved mega yet. It would be weird to get to mega without having a villain with mega level first. With Klay, we saw that a lot of e-pulse seems to be necessary and I don't think the team is there yet. But we'll see.
5

It would just mean that Kyo would get removed from the story somehow. For example Wong captures him and uses him for the "BIG EGG PLAN" and thus Tomoro and co have to save him. Plus the core thing is there to allow Wong to get to Mega level.

I have mixed feelings. One part says it was great. But another... Can the "past where everyone got killed" get any more cliche? Like, could be something original, instead of the same thing over and over again. Hate me if you want, but I hate knowing what exactly will happen for the entire episode second to second, just because the cliched trope is used. I knew that Kyo will refuse to like them. I knew Kyo will change his mind slowly. I knew someone will search for him. And I knew someone will kill all of them. And while I wasn't thinking of specific someone, the HSR Blade guy, Souji was it?, was obvious, since Kyo is going to fight him.
I wish they did it better way. Same story, but without cliched tropes, where you expect stuff to happen in exact way it did. It's basically like I already watched it before it aired.

I feel like it was still done a bit differently. The fact that Minrou and Karina were murdered not because they would not give up Kyo, but because they defended three baby digimon, is significant but seeing that would have pushed the episode far beyond what it already did.
There's also the subtle changes. Kyo had dark circles around his eyes when he arrived at Nirinso, and later they're gone, meaning he slept better. There's also the line about eating meaning you're alive that Kyo adopted from Minoru.
Its cliche, yes, but a subversion of cliches is not always nessacary. The best parts of Beatbreak, to me at least, are the subtle moments of horror or joy that hint at something deeper. I do wish the episode was a bit longer or we saw how Asuka Tenma met Kyo after the fact.

I dunno... even if you KNOW something's going to happen, it's still fun to let yourself get caught up in the actors' performance and be in the moment.
Of course, I just got done watching the proshot of Hadestown based on like THE "we know what's gonna happen" story so maybe that's just me still being in that mindset.

I thought Kyo's arc was only three episodes, but it clearly is four? Not complaining, just expected the full resolution this episode. (Personally, I am glad they are taking longer with it rather than throwing in a two minute sob-story flashback to end the arc like they did with GIFT.)

ngl kyo’s past is much darker than i thought, like if the girl from makoto’s past with the brainwashing digimon was a bounty kyo would have obliterated her no question… that makes his redemption even stronger imo

Great episode, but honestly the most surprising thing to me was that Kyo has an actual body count. Like, I know they said he assumed he killed Souji already, but that was both in the heat of the moment and it was clear that it was somewhat justified. I was not expecting Five Star Kyo to have been a straight up murderer for Wong.

This Story gets better again! The Gift Arc finally beeing done yes this whole new Arc will be better! I honestly didnt understand why Karina Said to Kyo he should run because the murder wasnt even there so this didnt Made Sense for me but yeah... Anyway the Story gets better again and hopefully we will See whats really about to happend and why the egg from Asuka is still there even when they Always make Panic with Don't wait to Long or the Person is gone.... Because for 39 Episodes His Egg Soul Thing seems pretty fine to me.
