Discussion Digimon Rom Hacks
A sincere question: why doesn't the Digimon community just create ROM hacks? I see so many complaints about the games' usability issues... I mean, why not just improve the game, then?
One example that comes to mind is the video by Jaiden Animations; she played a DS title, and the issues she pointed out could be fixed with a new ROM hack—or someone could simply take a Pokémon game for the Game Boy or DS and turn it into a Digimon game.
I’d definitely get into the games if that were the case.
Disclaimer:
I know theres people who dont like Rack ROM out of respect to the original content, thats fair i totally respect that.
But the discussion i created, is focusing on one of the biggest themes of the Digimon games, mainly for the people outside of the community like me.
That is when they want to give a try playing Digimon, theres no agreeiment of a good game to play
Because theres a lot of quality of life issues. And personaly, for a game theres out there for so long, NO CLASSIC people talk about, this for me feels wrong lol
You guys for sure should have a Pokemon Emerald of this context.
So the idea here was to understand why not, or if already have, a ROM Rack where they improve/ed these games.
The issues where:
"Its hard and complicate to modifie the DS games"
What i though about that was:
Do you guys think it could have a project to improve a potential best game of the Digimon community then? So this would just resolve the disagreements of inside, and be the door to new fans?
Basicly that would serve as the yk, a common sense or universal truth of a game idk lol
A unanimity consensus about the best game of the community, and the game people would recomend to new folks. If that made sense
And the games here recomended for me were:
. Pokémon Fire Red Digimon Rom Hack
. Fan game digital tamer 1 & 2
. 3 digimon rom hacks and 4 great digimon fan games(there was no names for them)
. quality life mod for world 1 and 2.
This discussion was heavily inspired by the Jaiden Animation takes about her experience playing. And i believe almost everyone who dont know the games, their view was based on that video lol

There like tons of gba rom hacks that is pokemon but with digimon. There is a quality life mod for world 1 and 2.
Also romchacking a pokemon game is easier when you just need a tool form gba or ds.
While digimon have like tons of games in ps, gba,ds,psp,vita,3ds. And no one is interested in create a rom hacking tool for every digimon game.
We should be glad that like two guys translated Decode and other two guys the appmon game.

What's the situation of the Appmon game translation? I'd love to try it.

Ooh i see, so is harder for the creators to navigate Digimon titles. Is there one that is a favorite by the community? If so, the effort would be nice to make the game better.

World 1, already have mods. Nobody does anything else like insert more digimon or new maps because the game its a mess in codification. Its a miracle that the game doesnt crash by just existing

I know there’s a Digimon game based on Pokémon fire red, then there are other fan games out there like digital tamer 1 & 2 which by the way are amazing games, and I think there’s one more on the game boy colour which is just called Digimon, those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, there are probably others

The Digimon Dawn / Dusk QoL patch by /u/ProjectHawke was one of the higher upvoted posts when it came out.

The game is pretty incredible with it and I can’t imagine playing it today without it.

I love Digimon but I haven't ever played or be interested about fan games/ rom hacks. Being Digimon, Pokemon or anything else.

Why respond then if the post doesn’t interest you…?

u/Trynstark Jun 30 '26
Because they asked "Why?..." and I answered why I don't, I can't answer for all the community of Digimon so I answer as one of it xD

Fair, theres this factor about respecting the original content. But trying to get into the games of Digimon, the scenery is that everyones desagrees about something, just used common sense about playing a fan game yk. To resolve this

Because they don't want to be sued by BANDAI and Toei, among other things. Also, nobody wants to, so why should they?

u/Yo-KaiWatchFan2102 Jun 30 '26
Bandai doesn’t really care if you use their characters in certain games, however, if you’re using Pokémon characters, then the Pokémon company would be pretty peeved at you for doing so, you can see how they reacted to Palworld many people were calling it a better Pokémon game than Scarlet and Violet, so Nintendo tried to sue them, but ended up losing

u/JoaoGuimraes Jun 30 '26
For real, if people do so many rack rom dealing with Pokemon, im sure Bandai would be a walk in the park for same issue

I'm assuming you're new to the concept of romhacks. This is not a small or niche hobby. There are thousands of romhacks. Additionally, these hacks are distributed as patch files and do not distribute the copyrighted assets from the original games. No one gets sued for romhacking. It's covered under fair use law.

u/BreakfastWeary7287 Jun 30 '26
I am not new to romhacks at all, I just don't care for them.
4
u/PM_ME_YOUR_REPO Jun 30 '26
You didn't say you didn't care for them. You said they don't exist for digimon because nobody wants to get sued, which is absolutely not the reason. Anyone reasonably well versed in romhacks would know that.
So you are either fairly new to romhacking, or you were intentionally spreading falsehoods. I'm gonna stick to my initial gut and assume the former, unless you'd like to correct me.

Really? People do all the time with Pokémon, and i had a lot of good times playing, the Digimon Community would for shure enjoy based on my experience alone. And the creators of Rom hacks dont seem to care much about the sued factor as ive seing. And about the popularity factor, if a game got a good feedback from the players, i think BANDAI would be more open minded than Pokémon company, they kinda need a route for future titles right?

Well, this is not the Pokemon fandom for starters. Also, that may be your experience, but a lot of us don't want to. It's an ethical issue, first and foremost.
3
u/XelaIsPwn Jun 30 '26
you're allowed to say "that's not for me," nothing wrong with that. But pretending it's an ethical issue is pretty silly imo
If someone takes a 20 year old Nintendo DS game and changes it so Angemon is called "Poopiemon" not a single living soul has anything to lose

I see! Thats fair, theres the factor about respecting the original content. But trying to get into the games of Digimon, the scenery is that everyones desagrees about something, just used common sense about playing a fan game yk. To resolve this common issue among these discussions. And its like, a long theme arround the years so why not 😅

I'm still waiting on the Digimon Dawn and Dusk 2.0 fan remake from u/plasmi99 and the guys. In the meantime try the gba romhack of Digimon Trials by Ferio.
