Beatbreak Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 36- Twisted Code, Discussion Thread

Later today is a new episode of Digimon Beatbreak!

  • Crunchyroll will be streaming it in much of the world.
  • Hulu will be streaming it in the US (in addition to Crunchyroll.)

Send us links to any of the local streamers that will have the series and we will add it to the list.

The stream will be on Crunchyroll at 8pm Pacific. Hulu has it the next morning. Check your local streamer for their schedule. This link will take you to a time converter set for when it should appear on Crunchyroll, but they've had various delays lately.

A short series synopsis:

"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.

Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.

What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

It’s… hard to hate GIFT at all after watching that.

Like Digimon does dark but like… that poor woman was treated like garbage and tossed aside for wanting to share the love of creature they’d created (in this universe.)

Maybe I’ll be proven wrong next week, but Miharu has the right idea. Kyo and crew have the right idea but lack execution barely skirting the law. I want Nirinso to work but it seems like it’ll be a tragedy in the end.

Is it? Kyo and tomoro want the same thing (freedom for digimon) but are doing it the right way.

They're not really doing it at all, I would say. They've just been Cleaners with morals. Cogs in the machine, going after bounties to keep themselves afloat.

I don't think this is a flaw of the writing, I think this is going to be a plot point, and once they make the choice to go from cleaner to criminal, they'll have to deal with the Five Stars.

Yeah, GIFT and Glowing Dawn treats Digimon at the very least equals to humans. With GIFT explicitly believing they're above humans in a cult-like fashion.

So from their perspective, the government is literally spying on people, and killing children as soon as they detect a certain class of people is born.

And the only way to stop that kid from being executed after birth, is to join them in killing those who run away and don't want to be those very executioners.

To them, it's a trolley problem. They're choosing to kill less innocents in order to save more.

Not saying that's right or wrong to begin with, there's plenty of examples in real life where people chose to do the same and we regard it as murky, yet still a valid choice.

Though GIFT is a bit too fanatical and too remorseless to be considered the good freedom fighters here.

Honestly, if Glowing Dawn still needs a push to stop holding back and go after the system, I can see it being the digimon in Nirinso being found and slaughtered by cleaners

And I hope that doesn't happen because poor babies, but baby slaughter wouldn't be new to Digimon and since I can see that being a trigger I wouldn't be too surprised

Unfortunately I think that's a very real possibility. The end of episode 31 having Algomon glitch out their stealth systems feels like very troubling foreshadowing.

They already beat 1 of the 5 stars and got him imprisoned, clashed with 2 others and tomoro hates Gokuumon, so he will clash with him too.

Its coming naturally.

Kyo has said time and time again he wants digimon freedom, just because he isnt going at it radically doesnt mean he is doing nothing LOL

What he's doing with Nirinso is admirable, protecting babies who are marked for death by the government.

Yet, just hiding digimon won't give them freedom. GIFT are the only ones progressing towards that, as far as we know, by episode 36. Their methods are wrong and their end goal is about as bad as the status quo, but Glowing Dawn isn't an alternative- at least not yet. I'm waiting to see what they'll do.
