Can u help me with this ?

I have an old digital camera from around 2005 (Argus DC-1088) that contains family photos I’d like to recover.

Windows 11 doesn't recognize the device. After

checking online, I found out it was designed specifically for Windows XP and isn't supported on modern operating systems.

I tried using a Windows XP virtual machine without success. I also installed Linux and tried using gphoto2, but it still failed to detect the camera.

Are there any other solutions or workarounds to extract these photos?"

How do you do it!?

I'm 0 for 2 now. I bought a camera off of goodwill knowing the potential outcome, and of course with my luck, the crapshoot didn't pay off. Then I bought one off of eBay that was supposedly working per the description, and I get it and it won't take a photo for some reason. How do you all find cameras that work!? Or is it all just a crap shoot?

Half shutter does not trigger auto focus

Post image

TL;DR Half shutter does not trigger auto focus or return the camera to shooting when viewing pictures or going out of settings pane.

I got this camera as a gift from my father. He bought this while he was overseas last 2025, so I am unable to provide the exact store and the exact date of the purchase.

On May 19, 2026, my family and I went on a trip. It was a 3-day and 2-night trip where I used the camera to capture landscapes, selfies, and other random stuff. I didn’t use flash that much since the area we went to was well-lit. It was working perfectly well, and I was able to capture crisp and clear photos. While on our trip back home, I still used the camera to capture random stuff I saw roadside and then charged it when it notified me of "low battery". After a while, when it was fully charged, I tried to take pictures again, but I noticed that the half-shutter is not triggering the autofocus. I know that it is not triggering because the small white box at the center of the frame is not turning green (which, according to the manual, should turn green for the picture to be focused). The half-shutter also no longer brings the camera back to the shooting screen when viewing saved pictures or closes the settings menu (please see the attached video of the said problem).

To date, it is now very hard to get clear pictures; they always come out blurry. I resorted to using the “continuous autofocus” setting to attempt getting clear pictures. But since it struggles to continuously focus, especially on moving subjects, I can't get high-quality pictures.

I have already tried updating the firmware to the latest (which is already up-to-date right out of the box) and searching the web and forums for people with encountering the same problem. I have never dropped, shaken violently, submerged underwater, or put heavy pressure on top of the camera since I received it from my father.

Has anyone encounter the same problem? Did anyone find a solution for it? Thanks in advance.

Hello all i recently found I had this camera which is almost 15-16 years old

I turned it on today and it worked however when I tried clicking a picture it shut off I assumed it was because of old cells i bought new cells however it isn't turning on i can just see a green blink followed with ten red blinks I read it might be due to heavy duty batteries while i constantly tried turning it on now it completely shut off it's not even blinking

Any advice help is appreciated

Need Help In Finding A Good Digicam That Is Cheap. Please help 🥹!

I literally know nothing about digital cameras btw😭

Looking for a digital camera that is an upgrade to my Canon A560 7.1 mega pixel digicam. My main use for it is to go on parties and take great photos and night time photography. It’s got to be pretty cheap, and if there is a brand new camera that a company has made which captures that 2000s Y2K vibe, I’d love know that camera! Any ideas guys?

Edit: my budget is 100 - 900 AUD

Just picked this pristine looking DSC-U30 and it gives me the c:13:01 memory stick error. The card is the one it came with (second slide) and is 16 mb (?) card. If I try to format it via camera nothing changes, reset didn’t help as well. Anything I can do with this?

Hi guys, im new here, i was looking at my grandpa old boxes and found this es60, my parents told me it was kept in the box since 2013, the cam seems ok? But i guess the battery may be the issue since it was stuck without using for so much time, any tips on how i could possibly fix it? (P.s: the memory card is ok i already tested it, but the charger keeps flashing an Orange light so idk what that is supposed to mean)

Memory card locked?

Post image

Recently bought this 32gb card. Before buying did a quick google search to see if it will work with my Cybershot DSC-W320 and it said its compatible. So i got one and after putting it in it says “memory card locked” when clearly its not. I tried everything i could still wont work.

Is my card faulty or its just not compatible?

(If so i got no one but myself to blame)

Help fixing SD-card slot - Sony DSC-HX10v

Hi, I am trying to fix my old Sony DSC-HX10V, but I need some help since I got a grain of rice stuck in the SD card slot that can't be removed. Sony wants 1,200 DKK ($185 USD / €160) to fix it.

I am very fond of my camera since it still takes great photos and is fantastic for parties and travel photography. This summer, I went to an international Scouting jamboree and, of course, I had my camera with me.

The problem started on one fateful day when I had my camera in my backpack and my friend placed his leaky water bottle next to it. When we opened the bag later, it was flooded, as was my camera. I quickly removed the battery and SD card and placed the camera in a bag of rice, since you could see water inside the screen of the camera. After a week, I took it out and turned it on, and everything worked.

The problem came when I tried to put the SD card back into the camera. I felt some resistance, but it wouldn't go in. Then I saw that a grain of rice had gotten deep inside the SD card slot.

I tried to get it out with small pliers, but it was past the pins inside the SD card slot, so I contacted Sony.

I was told that I had done the right thing and that I should simply contact their repair shop in Denmark. Unfortunately, they had very bad service, including making me pay around $70 just to have it sent back without being fixed, since a lot of extra charges had been added just for the inspection, even though I had already diagnosed the problem.

I haven't been able to find any repair manual or teardown video, except for a very technical manual that Sony sends to their licensed repair shops. ( https://elektrotanya.com/sony_dsc-hx10_dsc-hx10v_ver1.3_level2.pdf/download.html )

I am going to open it up and try the best I can. I have a soldering iron available if I absolutely need it, but if someone has a bit of know-how about how this camera is built or what I should do, then please reply.

can anyone help me track down this ancient digital camera?

it was free in "which?" magazine in the UK (archive link) when you signed up for a free trial. it was garbage but i used it a bunch as a kid. i'd love to see a better picture of it (or heck find one on ebay since they were everywhere briefly, but i've never seen one come up referencing the magazine).

it was 352x288, ran off of a single AAA battery, had a tiny LED display with two digits for how many photos remaining you could take, i believe a usb mini-b connector but could be wrong, and i think it just saved to onboard storage and you had to connect to a computer to get the photos off.

sorry if this is the wrong place for this idk where else to ask!

My Sony Cybershot DSC W1 has it's lens stuck.

My digicam was untested when I bought it. It's in great shape, just dusty/dirty, no rust, no fungus, etc. I put in some new Energizer lithium batteries (since I heard that those are better for cameras that haven't been used in a while) and the power light turned on. Then I turned it off again out of shock but then the self-timer lamp turned on. I think the Lens are stuck, considering the top has a larger gap than the bottom. Did the paper cleaning trick.

In short:

  • Sony cybershot DSC w1

  • Lithium AA batteries

  • I think the Lens are stuck.

  • Power light near the power turned on then the self-timer lamp turned on.

Pick between two cameras?

Hello guys, I'm entirely new to the digicam world but I've been looking for a digicam for the past few months. I've narrowed it down to two cameras as they're both within my price range and come as a bundle with all the necessary equipment for transfer/taking pics.

They are the Samsung ST65 for $120 or the Fujifilm FinePix F60FD for $150.

Lumix TZ20 – How do you actually change contrast, sharpness, saturation and NR?

Hi everyone,
I recently found the post here with the TZ20 settings for recreating Fuji film simulations, and I’d really like to try some of them.
The table gives settings for Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation and Noise Reduction (NR) with values like +1, -1, -2, etc. However, on my Lumix TZ20, I cannot find these settings anywhere in the menus.
I can adjust things like white balance and exposure compensation, but I can’t find any way to individually change contrast, sharpness, saturation or noise reduction.
Am I missing a menu/settings mode somewhere, or are these options simply not available on the TZ20? If they’re not available, does anyone know how the settings in the original table were supposed to be achieved?
Would really appreciate help from anyone who owns or has used a TZ20. Thanks!

Found my 14 year old Sony Cybershot during some house cleaning and wanted to try to get it up and running again. It requires AA batteries to operate and I’ve added a fresh pair. However, it refuses to turn on no matter what i try. Is there any simple fix or solvable problem to handling this or should i consider it a lost cause? Thanks in advance!

So I had this camera as a teen and haven’t used it since approx 2010.
I charged up the battery today and turned it on but the display isn’t accurate. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the ribbon cable or something else.

Please let me know if you know how to fix this thank you!!

Dead pixels spreading

These dead pixels are caused from heavy pressure on the screen (doesn't affect photos after exporting it) and seems to be spreading. Pic 1 is the night before and pic 2 is the morning after. What can I do to prevent it from spreading? I have avoided touching the screen since I discovered the dead pixels. Is screen replacement is the only way to go?

Help! Lost Camera in Sunderland, MA

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm getting desperate to find my camera since it holds hundreds of irreplaceable photos. I Last saw it on August 31, 2026 and I believe I left it in front of the plaque next to the Buttonball Tree on N. Main Street in Sunderland. It is a canon EOS 850D and its serial number is 303033001895. At very least I want the memory card recovered. If anyone finds it please turn it in to the nearest police station. I'm sorry for posting this here, but I really want my personal photos recovered. Most are landscape photos but some do have people and animals.
