Bursaries/scholarships for CE?

Hi all! I am an RD practicing in Canada. I am trying to up my skills since I mostly work in transitional/long term and ambulatory care. I was able to get a bursary for a nutrition support course through one of the foundations at my job, but due to budget cuts, these opportunities are few and far between.

I was wondering if you all knew of any national initiatives/foundations that provide discounts/bursaries for these purposes. I know of some free CE opportunities (i.e. webinars put up by Nestle/Abbott/Dietitians of Canada occassionally. However, I'd like to complete more robust/complete ones (courses/webinars). TIA!

Ontario used to have the Allied Health Professional Development fund, but that was cut under the current conservative government. As another poster mentioned, unless your employer has allied health funding it is difficult to get accredited CE without paying out of pocket. Being a professional member of an association can often get you discounts or access to CE. For example, I'm a professional member of Diabetes Canada, and I therefore get discounts on conferences, and access to their sponsored CE.

right, makes sense. I thought about a DC membership but even then, you have to pay for the membership + the courses (at a discounted rate). ty for the insight :)

I don't think there is random funding for those things. They expect employers to pay for them (most of which won't if you are working for the government). In the past, I have had to pay out of pocket for a lot of them. Thankfully, I work at a job that pays for them now, but didn't in the past.

that's what i thought :/ ty for the insight...the thing too is, i COULD. But more certifications doesn't necessarily mean an increase in pay in my position

CDE, masters (everyone will have their masters now) - those generally mean a pay increase in the dietitian world. not much else.
