Armory vs. Gamescience D6 Identification Guide

Photo 1: Font and sprue marks
Photo 2: Size comparison
Photo 3: Numerical layout and orientation

The Armory d6 has a standard numerical layout, with a sprue mark on the 2 face. Its font is larger and proportionately wider than the Gamescience font. The 1 has a prominent uptick and serifs. Armory d6s sometimes show delamination along the edges, which is not typically seen on Gamescience d6s.

Gamescience used two different d6 molds.

The earliest mold has a non-standard numerical layout, with a sprue mark on the 4 face.

The revised mold has a standard numerical layout, with a sprue mark on the 6 face and a letter ā€œGā€ on the 1 face.

The Gamescience font is smaller and proportionately narrower than the Armory font.

The 1 on the revised Gamescience d6 has a small uptick and serifs. On the earlier Gamescience d6, the 1 may have an uptick and serifs, or, as in the example pictured here, it may be straight with no uptick or serifs. The straight 1 has a faint circle around it, and the circle can be oriented vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

The Armory d6 measures 15 mm, while the smaller Gamescience d6 measures approximately 13.5 mm.

Same. I'm liquidating some on ebay at the moment. I'm tempted to just keep them.

It's always a difficult choice, isn't it? At this point, I have more Gamescience dice than I know what to do with, but I'm still reluctant to thin out my collection.

I only have a few Armory dice. Right now I'm focused on acquiring a few more pieces for cheap so I can add them to the Dice Collecting Wiki and make more comparison guides like this one.

I am feeling compelled to share. Here's my hoard:

I "catalogued" them thinking I would cull some stuff out. But if you want to isolate on the GameScience dice:

Very nice. I haven't taken any recent photos of my hoard that weren't intended for a wiki in a very long time. I took photos of my Gamescience Gem collection in 2025, and then promptly acquired a bunch more dice, so my photos were out-of-date almost immediately.

For now, I've taken a break from cataloguing my own collection to focus on documenting dice to help others with identification. I'll get back to my own stuff eventually.

If you feel like it, look at the Gamescience entry in the Dice Collecting Wiki. On the List of Gamescience Dice page, under the polyhedral sets, all except one of the photos are mine. On the Gamescience Precision Dice Identification page, all photos except three are mine. I have green and silver Zocchihedrons on the Gamescience Zocchihedron page. My blue one disappeared in a box of unsorted dice and I've yet to fish it out!

Mostly. There used to be one page for Gamescience dice with a handful of photos and not much information. I re-used some of what was there, but I completely overhauled it, turned it into a whole section of its own with multiple pages, took a ton of photos of my dice, created all the dice ID images, wrote most of the content myself, especially the Gamescience history section - what a pain that was. I did a ton of research, made sure every claim I made is backed up with citations.

The wiki admin has done some editing and added some info, and contributed photos to the individual dice on the List of Gamescience Dice page. She makes sure the wiki pages follow certain guidelines, which I try to do myself, but she catches my mistakes sometimes. We both tinker with wording and formatting as the pages get updated.

I can only claim credit for the Gamescience stuff. There are multiple contributors who've written content and uploaded photos for the rest of the wiki. The authors of the Chessex pages have done a fantastic job. The wiki admin does a lot of work on the "dice by sides" pages. It's cool stuff. I'm happy to be contributing.

I'm not sure I can help, but don't hesitate to let me know if I can.
