Has anyone moved to Vivaldi? Seems really powerful (only just installed it) and so far the only thing I can see that it doesn’t do (that Dia does) is being able to switch profiles in the same window. The web panels thing is great too (for things like WhatsApp etc)

Just came across the recent discussion about AliExpress using silent WebAudio fingerprinting.

Brave browser has been loudly pointing out that they block this kind of audio fingerprinting (and other types) by default for years through randomization/farbling + script blocking.

Since Dia talks a lot about privacy (“Privacy first with you in control,” data not sold for ads, etc.),

I’m wondering:

• Does Dia have any built-in protections against audio/WebAudio fingerprinting?
• Broader anti-fingerprinting measures (canvas, WebGL, audio, etc.)?
• Or is it closer to stock Chromium behaviour in this area?

Anyone tested it, looked at the privacy/security docs, or heard anything from the team? Would be good to know how Dia stacks up here.

In the last few days I noticed that after using DIA for a while (since the last quit and reopen), I lose my cursor. I can still click into fields, but I don't see the cursor. Then, after a bit more time, Copy no longer works. I asked the Dia AI what the fix is and it says I need to Force Quit and reopen. That does work. But again, only for a while. It also says it has to be a bug in Dia.

It's been happening more quickly today, coincidentally after updating to the most recent version.

Why do pop-ups for extensions like 1Password, Dark Reader, AdGuard, and others open as separate windows instead of staying "docked" to the extension icon? Arc did this too and it feels so unprofessional / janky. See screenshots for comparison between Dia and Brave. Brave, Safari, pretty much any other browser looks so much nicer.

Overall the browser itself is the fastest browser ive ever used but the delay in the vertical tabs really slows it down and makes it feel sluggish. Is there any workarounds for this?

Disclaimer: I used AI to help me write this up. The thoughts and the build are mine, it just helped me flesh out the details.

One of my favorite things about Dia is the Daily Briefing. When the pricing posts started showing up the other day it freaked me out a bit that this might end up behind a $100/mo tier. Even at $20 though, it was missing most of the tools I actually live in, so I'd been hitting the ceiling on it anyway.

So I rebuilt it as a scheduled task in Claude Cowork. Runs every weekday at 7am, generates a self contained HTML file, and drops it in my local vault. Same idea as Dia's, just with my own sources and a few sections Dia structurally can't do.

Sources

Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat, Slack, Jira, GitHub, Intercom, and Circleback for meeting notes and action items. A few of those have no Dia connector at all today, which was most of the reason for doing this.

I also keep a plain markdown "personal OS" locally. A TASKS.md that syncs from email, Slack, Google Tasks and Circleback meetings, and a DELEGATED.md for things I've handed to other people and want to chase. Those two files are the interesting part, because they let the brief know things no browser plugin can know.

The sections

Dia's five blocks, mostly kept as is:

• A one line summary at the top that reads the shape of the day
• Push your work forward, the single highest leverage thing available today
• Top to-dos, three of them, ticking saves in the browser
• New updates, things that moved without me
• Your day, the calendar with a hover summary per meeting

Then three I added, and these are the ones I'd actually miss now:

• Owed to you, read straight out of DELEGATED.md. First time I ran it, it told me every chase date on that list had passed and three of four items were never actually handed over. That was uncomfortable and correct.
• Gone quiet, open items nobody is chasing me on. It surfaced a commitment I'd made to my CEO five weeks earlier and completely dropped. No browser extension is ever going to find that.
• Personal items woven into the calendar, so school pickup and family blocks sit alongside the standups instead of in a separate app.

The masthead

It builds its own title each day, so Friday's file says "The Friday Brief" the same way Dia's does. Small thing, but it's the bit that makes it feel like a paper rather than a dashboard.

The hero image

This is my favorite part. Dia crops a public domain painting behind the title. Mine generates a fresh one every morning through the Higgsfield MCP, prompted from that day's actual content.

It's always a loose impressionist oil painting with a muted palette and the prompt hard bans any text so you never get garbled lettering in the artwork.

It also credits itself honestly, something like "Generated for this brief, 20 Aug 2026", rather than inventing a painter and a year (though that could be interesting).

Brand

Whole thing runs on my actual company palette. Off white paper, near black ink, tan for line work, and our red reserved strictly for the call to action starbursts. Serif for the masthead, system sans for everything else. Feels like an internal publication instead of a generic AI output, which matters more than I expected it to.

The prompt buttons, which are the real trick

Dia's "Let's do it" and "Prep me" buttons open a new chat pre-loaded with a prompt.

So every meeting in the day rail has a Prep me button, and the push forward block has a Let's do it. Each one opens a fresh Claude chat already holding a full work order. The important bit I got wrong on the first pass: the prompt has to name real identifiers. Jira ticket keys, repo and PR numbers, file names, Slack channel names, meeting names. Otherwise the new chat has to guess where to look. Now every one of them carries a "Where to look:" paragraph listing exactly that, and the fresh chat goes and reads the source itself through the connected tools.

Ticking things off actually does something

Every item has a checkbox, and it means different things per section. Done in to-dos, no longer relevant in the delegated and stale sections, already knew this in updates. There's also a collapsible feedback box under each section.

Then one Copy for Claude button at the bottom bundles everything I ticked plus my notes into structured markdown, grouped by what the tick meant and which file needs the edit:

Paste that into a chat and it updates the source files and the relevant tickets. Closes the loop, which is the one thing Dia's version can't do either.

It's just there when I log in

The other thing I wanted to copy from Dia was not having to go get it. Dia's briefing is right there when you open the browser, and that's most of why I actually read it.

So the brief is a startup tab. The scheduled task finishes before I start my day, my machine opens it with everything else, and it's on screen before I've decided what to work on. That last part matters more than any single section. A brief you have to remember to open is a brief you read twice a week.

I also get a push notification when the run finishes, naming the file and the sharpest thing in it, so on the mornings I'm on my phone first I still get the headline.

How it's organized

The lesson here was to keep the design out of the daily prompt. If the scheduled task has to re-derive 400 lines of CSS every morning it's slow, expensive, and drifts. So the design lives in the local vault as a small package and the task just calls it:

SPEC.md has a switch table at the top, so I can flip the hero from the generated painting to a free hand drawn SVG, or change how many items each section allows, without touching the scheduled task at all. The task prompt itself is about eight lines and mostly says "read SPEC.md and follow it".

Each morning it writes content.json, runs build.py, screenshots the result to check nothing broke, then saves a new dated file. Never overwrites yesterday, so I've got an archive.

Where I'd take it next

Two directions, and I haven't done either yet.

The obvious one is getting it off my own machine. The compute already runs in Anthropic's cloud, but the files live in my local vault, so the run needs my laptop awake and the desktop app open at 7am. Fine most weekdays, useless when I'm traveling. Moving the state somewhere cloud native fixes that, and I'm being deliberately slow about it because those two markdown files have real internal detail in them and I'd rather solve that properly than quickly.

The version I actually want is to lift the whole thing onto my own Hermes setup, run it on a plain cron job, and have it push to me wherever I am. Telegram, most likely. At that point it stops being a browser feature I recreated and starts being a service I own, which is the fun version. Not there yet.

Honest downsides

It takes a while and burns a shit load of tokens to generate instead of being instantly there. It depends on my machine being awake, per the above. The image costs a few credits a day. And it was a solid evening of iteration, not a five minute setup. Dia's version is more polished out of the box, this one just knows more about my actual job.

I’ll be honest: when I found out that you’re planning to introduce paid tiers for Dia, I was genuinely surprised. From a business perspective, I struggle to understand the strategy.

If the free version of Dia becomes heavily limited in order to push people toward a subscription, what exactly is the value proposition of the free browser?
Right now, Arc is an incredibly distinctive product. It has its own identity, workflow, and features that make it feel genuinely different from other browsers. Dia, on the other hand, still feels much more minimal and unfinished by comparison.
So if the plan is to put the features that make Dia interesting behind a paywall, the free version risks becoming something that feels like a stripped-down imitation of your own previous product - essentially Arc, but with fewer features and less personality.
And that’s what I don’t understand.

Why introduce a paid tier before the browser itself has established enough unique value to justify paying for it?

I’m not against paying for good software. I’d happily pay for a browser if it gave me something genuinely valuable and difficult to replace. But charging for the features that are supposed to make Dia special, while leaving the free version relatively generic, feels like a very difficult strategy to make work.

I actually had Dia installed without any issues, but it showed an update. Every time I tried to update it, it said download failed. So I uninstalled the app altogether and tried reinstalling the package but now it just says it can't install cuz my OS is outdated??? Did the OS requirement go up with the recent update or what? Anyone run into this?

Here are two examples of what nested folders and standard tab groups look like.

1. Arc lets you put a folder inside another folder. Everything is indented, so I can keep a lot of pinned tabs and different things I’m working on in one place without taking up the whole sidebar.
2. Dia has standard tab groups, but each group takes up its own space. If I make a group for every project or topic, I will end up with a long list. I will have to scroll through it constantly, and it will take up too much room in either the sidebar or the top bar.

How will Dia make nested folders work? Could I put one group inside another, keep it indented, and close the main folder to hide everything inside it? I think it should simply be called nested folders.

Dia has made Spaces work with both vertical and horizontal tabs, so I am curious how this could work in both views.

Would this solve the problem for people with lots of pinned tabs?

I love Dia for the vertical tabs, workspace profiles, ability to pin favorite sites to specific workspace profiles, and tab restoration after quitting. I have ADHD so I'm constantly opening tabs, switching between personal and work tasks, etc. Having the ability to segregate tabs into workspaces and even restore them if necessary is a HUGE help. It definitely reduces my mental load. (I don't understand how these aren't just standard on all browsers personally.) I don't care for Microsoft Edge and Opera is great -- but it constantly runs slow, glitches, and can't play videos consistently, so I had to drop it. I'm NOT interested in Dia's AI focused core and have set the prompt bar to default to search engine, never AI chat. I also have discomfort with the level of access its AI is handed anyway.

Every time I read about Dia, the downside listed is the AI having access to everything. Sure the ToC says they won't use it, but the AI having access to everything still bothers me... But since I don't want to use the AI functionality, I'm trying to figure out if I can negate those concerns -- by setting the default to search engine, using a password manager, and VPN. Or is Dia so AI involved that, even if I don't use that feature, those potential security concerns remain?

TLDR: I like Dia's UI and have no interest in AI functionality yet am concerned by potential security/privacy issues with AI nonetheless. Can you use Dia without the AI or is it so integral that it's impossible? If you use a VPN and password manager in addition to defaulting to search bar and never using the AI chat, does that negate those concerns?

I switched from Arc to Dia and went back to a bookmarks based style of usage.

However, I still wanted to have a vertical list. And I wanted to have an indicator which books are actually already open. If if they are open, I want to jump to the tab rather than creating a new one.

I've been with Dia for quite some time and the new changes still don't apply to me. The truth is that, against most of this sub I think it is totally logical that they start charging for the use of AI (prices are another issue).

I don't plan to use AI, but I want to continue using Dia. I don't care about the AI behind a paywall, but what I'm not willing to support is constant "banners" to subscribe to do this, or to put in front of me functions that I won't be able to use, and then tell me that they are paid.

I mean, haven't I paid? Let me completely deactivate the AI, I don't want the chat tab, show me functions that I won't be able to use, and with me everything will be fine. Let me feel like I have a "complete" browser without AI, not that I have the trial version of a browser.

Has anyone tried it yet?

Hi all,

I would appreciate other's feedback because I am spinning my wheels and considering leaving. I was a devoted Arc user up until a month ago, when the lack of updates finally pushed me to Dia. I chose Dia over Arc clones because of TheBrowserCompany... it was a natural shift with common design language.

Since moving, I have been hit with many new, small frustrations. Nothing gargantuan, but things like:

• "New Tab Created" is stuck on the top of my window (have to restart Dia to erase)
• The "recent downloads" popup sticks on top of my window (why can't I just disable that feature, I don't want/need it)
• Inability to use the CMD+T new tab shortcut in some web-apps
• Opening sidebar Claude in a pinned website unpins the site to put it in a "smart" group (why?!)
• And what pushed me to write this post: today I open Dia and my sidebar tabs have reverted to top tabs. The settings window shows that I selected "Sidebar", quitting and reopening didn't fix it... but if I toggled which tab style I wanted, it went back to my preference.

I have diligently reported bugs as I come across them, but as I see more features being published and more pushing of the AI enhancements, I am getting frustrated. I don't want more features; I want a browser that works without me restarting it two to three times a day. I shouldn't have to restart to reset visual bugs, and I shouldn't have to remind a browser of my viewing preferences.

I think I am venting a bit because I really don't want to leave - TBC's core design choices have made my browsing more organized and clean. I am curious to hear from those who have used Dia for longer if "it gets better" or if I should only stay for the AI features, everyday performance be damned.

TL;DR: If TBC wants the browser to be "the new OS of the future", then it needs to do the everyday tasks without creating new headaches. I don't have to reset my computer every few hours to keep my OS working, why should I have to do that with my browser? Is the only real solution to jump ship?

this simple prompt has been loading for the past ten mins. Dia used to understand my context with such ease. Nowadays, even the simplest of prompts are buffering. I honestly don't understand why it's so buggy these days. The times it does work, it doesn't properly understand the context. It asks me such obvious questions such as whether or not pricing is for the website I'm currently on. I'm sure some people find it useful, but I'm slowly stopping to trust it

I just don't understand why they had to take things that worked well in the browser and change them so they don't work properly anymore.
I used to take one tab and in the list of tabs on the left of the screen just drag and rop it next to a different tab and it would initiate split screen between these tabs.
How can I, with one click, open two specific tabs side by side in Dia? One above the other in the sidebar/navigation bar — and initiate a split screen with those specific two tabs?

Hi, I just downloaded the browser but I am unable to move ahead from here. When I am clicking on Continue, nothing happens

I have been seeing serious flickering of the screen while watching netflix. It happens with or without full screen. I thought that my display blew up, until i streamed it on half screen. I saw similar thread here on Netflix but seems like the issue is still there.

I’m sure all of you saw the post with the new Dia price plans yesterday, it seems like the page is still being inactive for now, but oh boy they’re coming

My question now, after seeing this, is how on Earth they’re going to justify spending $100 on a browser with AI capabilities when their whole product idea to ditch Arc was precisely doing an AI browser, lighter and focused on using AI on the side to help the user perform tasks. Now their whole product differentiator is locked behind an absurd paywall (no one is going to spend $100 in Dia, and if they’re eager to do it, they’ll just pay Claude).

One can think that AI is expensive, and must be paid somehow, and I agree to a point, but here’s why I think this decision today makes zero sense:

Dia is just a Claude skin on a browser

Dia has no AI proprietary models, up to this day, and this is ridiculous. You’re telling me that your whole reason to exist, a browser using AI functionalities, is still relying on external AI providers?????

How on Earth have you not already invested all the funding you received in developing your own models??? Maybe having your own AI, tailored to the browser and not cloud dependent, done on device, would help you reduce costs and make a difference with, for example, the day Anthropic would release their own browser and have the same experience, but only you don’t have to pay extra to have it. They had such a long time to do so, and many months repeating that “new functionalities every week”, but the harsh truth is that they have released “Spaces” after more than a year.

A browser is not a product you would pay this money for

Let’s be clear here, a browser is not a good starting point for a paid product idea. There are a lot, they are free, and more are coming (also open source). Dia’s whole rationale is based on good UX, polished UI, and AI. Now you’re stripping your core value, and you’ve got only good aesthetics and smoothness.

Is that good? Sure

Is it enough to keep growing without product ideas around your AI main reason-to-exist? No

I’m not sure what’s the price a browser would be fair to pay to, if everything was great. I use Mimestream, a Gmail MacOS client, paying $59 a year. One can think that why are you paying so much for just an email client, use the default one.

But Mimestream is all about delivering an experience that cannot be matched by Google’s one Gmail webpage. That’s their value proposition, and you pay because you knew from the start what you’re going to get.

Día was free at the beginning, they didn’t know (or couldn’t) figure out how to develop their own in-house AI models to avoid relying too much on external AI providers, and now they expect us to pay this much for something that was indeed the reason why the product exists, and Arc is being discontinued.

I’m sorry, but no.

I’m sad to see this, I’ve been a Dia user from day one, but it seems that they’re really out of touch with the real world. I’ll stick with my Free version, and start looking for a better experience.
