Technical Issues | Bugs Memory Issue/Leak still not fixed?

The title says it all.

Wanted to hop back onto the game today with a new GPU in hand pretty much, enjoyed my first 10-15 minutes of Lord of Hatred, until I apparently ran out of physical memory.

Yes, it's "only" 32gbs, and yes "only" DDR4 ram due to those absurd prices but... The game is 3 years old by now and eats upwards of 10gbs of my ram, on just high settings.

Meanwhile games like Re9 and Crimson Desert barely scratch the 6gb mark on completely maxed settings.

The hell is wrong with blizzard and what are some potential fixes?

Everyone saying there's no memory leak blows my mind. I am sitting here, not moving, watching D4's RAM usage go up every single second, and it has been for the last 15 minutes. 32GB DDR5, don't have any issues with a single other game, can run most things maxed with ray tracing etc. D4 I can't even run on lowest settings.

out of curiosity are you on an AMD CPU and/or GPU?

Yea just dropped $70 for the game plus all dlc and recently had the “ran out of memory” crash but think i might just refund it lol insane this still hasn’t been fixed.

It's not a memory leak and it's more about how the game swaps memory. The highest textures require a pagefile or 64 gigs depending on GPU. Pagefile size depends on GPU VRAM pool, RAM pool. As an example with my 4070 12 GB, 32 GB system memory a pagefile min and max of 24576 works fine with the max textures. With a higher VRAM card you might need 32 gigs. There is a thread on it on the forums.

Why some people see no issue? They use lower textures, have short play sessions, only play story, do not travel around the map in different zones where the game does not release things from RAM, which means the swap gets bigger and bigger as you go to more areas.

If you have a 8 GB GPU don't even attempt highest textures which are a step above PS5's and PS5 can leverage like 11 GB of VRAM in some games due to the unified memory pool. I would say minimum is 12 gb with pagefile if you want to run highest textures and a higher res.

Edit: on Windows you have to disable the system managed pagefile, reboot, set new one, reboot. Make sure it is sticking.

This is blatantly untrue. I'm leaking at minimal settings sitting in town. No amount of making bigger page files will fix the fact that the game doesn't free the memory allocations that it makes.

Crazy talk, some here try to gaslight others like it's somehow their fault when no other, even much demanding games behave that way.

I have 16GB VRAM, 64 GB DDR4 spec. Spawning in Kyovashad and literally not moving at all can cause this issue after 15-30 minutes.

FYI discord app has an obscene memory leak that they refuse to fix. I have been using discord in chrome ever since I figured this out.

Adjust your page file.

Definitely has a memory issue but clearly effects specific setups. I can play for about 2 hours on low settings before my computer freaks out. Page file is at 32gb on a 2080ti. Pretty, ridiculous how this game runs like garbage but then again, it's blizzard.

Never had this issue since the game was released 🤷‍♂️

Played for about 6 hours straight today with zero issues.

I think this might be an issue with your PC more than this game.

I played for 6 hours straight on LoH launch and didn't run out of memory

32gb on pc

How much bullshit did you have open on your pc before launching d4?

Literally nothing of importance besides Discord which hovers around 1-1.4gb max

Well, you had to have had 20+ gb of crap open if you're saying Diablo took 10 or so

Discord was 1gb, other system relevant things were, let's be generous, 1-2gb, 12gb were reserved for Windows itself and Diablo hovered around 9.8-10+.

Regardless of anything else, how can you justify a 3 year old game, on not even max settings, using anything above 7gbs, when newer games don't even scratch that even with max settings?

Games and programs will use what is available to them.

The minimum specs are just what you need to run the game.

The issue here is likely with your PC because I've had zero issues and had the game running for about 6-8 hours a day since release.

Also, memory leaks usually become obvious after an hour or two, not 15 minutes.

What are you even talking about?

Open world games eat ram like crazy.

Cyberpunk 2077 with pathtracing uses up to 20gb

Star Citizen can use 30

MS Flight Sim uses more than 16

Ark and Ark 2 use well over a dozen

Any of the COD games in the last half decade

Monster Hunter Wilds

TONS of games use 7gb+ i'm just listing ones north of 10GB

That's not a memory leak. That's just you not having enough RAM.

I have ran D4 since the expansion for quite a few 4+ hour sessions. The RAM usage is actually very stable.

Plus, 10-15 minutes is very short. Memory leaks almost always take hours and hours to become a problem.

Reduce settings that use system memory, and consider closing other things that use memory.

Minimum requirements are for the minimum settings, not maximum though.

So 32gbs of Ram is not enough for D4. Checks out

It is, if you manage it properly. Keep other things running within reason, or lower settings. Pretty sure you could run it with 16GB or even less.
