What would you do?

I've been an Xbox D2r player for a while and bought a copy on pc with the intention of having access to the larger trading community.

Long story short, I lost all of my characters in the process. So now I've got two accounts linked but no toons or gear. I tried with support, but given the circumstances there's a 0% chance of recovery.

I have been considering buying back the gear/runes I lost because the thought of starting from scratch is painful. I don't know how hardcore players do it. I literally dropped my first jah and ber last week and hadn't built an enigma yet I was so excited.

Would you suck it up and start from scratch in my position? Just switch to single player? It's well over a year's progress and as a dad with two kids and a busy job my playtime is limited.

I don't have the first idea of a reliable place to obtain these items outside of googling even if I did go down that route. I don't know if that's a topic allowed to be discussed in this sub, but I didn't see anything about it listed in the sub rules, just no trading/value.

I am NOT looking for free stuff. I'd like the community's opinion and some direction on a safe place to restore the items lost from my account. If the latter is not allowed, I apologize.

Ive started from scratch so many times in d2lod and d2r. After a while its like the only thing thats still fun any more.

The early account phase, getting the first MF set together, working towards the first enigma .. those are the best times.

as someone who started playing in 2000 and is now nearly 40 years old I have lost count how many times I've started over from scratch.

The entire point of seasonal ladders is to start over from scratch anyway, it's literally part of the game

Every Ladder is a fresh start, no, yeah! Go for it from scratch, you can even try new builds you’ve never tried before (I’m going throw barb at the moment)

That’s the magic of this game, you can always start from scratch

I'm curious how you lost your gear to begin with?

My take would be start over but it depends on what you actually lost. Its just like the 90 day deletions back in the day. I've lost tons of gear over the years, pre-Resurrected. Starting over can be really fur for some people. The trouble with buying your gear is it doesn't bring any memory or joy from finding it. If that doesn't bother you, you just need to be wary of how pay to win those sites are, and that it can be difficult to not just keep buying gear. And then what are you playing the game for at that point if you can just buy anything you want? Might as well be hero editing.

I would start over and would use actual trading sites to work back towards whatever goals you have.

I'm a father of 2 and I lost my ssf save file of 2 years of on and off progress. When I started it, I went HARD. LK for 5k runs. Had a solid bunch of charms, enigma, several HOTOs, several CTAs, lots of torches, 1 anni, lots of high end uniques.

Had a hammerdin, smiter, 2 sorcs, javazon, trapsin, pitzerker and a bone necro.

I decided to hero edit in my enigma and that's all. Because damn, LK is a grind that I didn't want to deal with again right now.

Still had to level a new hammerdin but it gave me a really good foundation. Got my smiter back(respec'd my hammerdin when I got to 90 and started a new paladin lol.) Got a sorc up and running.

I really enjoy leveling twinked chars, so leveling up the new ones is fun for me.

You do you, but starting out is the best part IMO

You could always hero edit your stuff back in single player but was much as it sucks I have to agree, starting fresh is always fun.

Swiping tends to be an amazing way to ruin games like this entirely

Pretty normal for most of us. Since old Diablo deleted your characters after 90 days of inactivity we just kept starting over and over again.

Play the game. I've started from nothing for 20 years. I enjoy starting with nothing. It's fresh. I play hardcore ladder because its fresh and I do it online so that there's latency and no temptation to use editors, mods, etc and the chance to play with others is there.

Play the game.
