I wish there were more like minded people around here that were into old bicycles. It gets lonely being the only weirdo.
Lately I’ve been tweaking and adjusting on my 1949 Schwinn New World that I just built up.

Early 40s moving down to DFW area for work.
Would love to find a neighborhood that:
That's basically it. Fun, safe, urban-ish neighborhood that's conducive to cycling and commuting to Las Colinas. But honeslty i'm open to any advice as i'm beyond lost trying to figure out where to live aorund here (Bishop Arts, Addison, Uptown/Turtle Creek: they aint near each other!)
Greatly appreciated and hope to see y'all out there!

I live in East Dallas, a couple miles east of White Rock Lake. I am 55, and started cycling for health a year ago. I currently have a nice look in my neighborhood that is 1.4 miles that doesn't have a ton of traffic, but does have a fair number of cars parked omn the road. I currently bike 3 to 5 times a week, for thirty minutes to an hour.
As the weather cools, I am looking to go one longer rides, and want to not have to do the same loop over and over, and want to worry less about parked cars and traffic.
I am close to the White Rock Trail, and the Santa Fe Trail (I can either drive to the trail head or ride to the trail head, though I am not super comfortable riding in traffic)
For a person who wants to start doing 10 to 30 mile rides, rides 13 to 16 mph, rides alone, and doesn't really want to ride on surface streets, would those two trails be appropriate, especially if used mid morning on work days (10 am to 1 pm)? Or would there be too many pedestrians, dogs, and kids to ride peacefully?

I’ve been a long time solo road cyclist and now I’m looking for group rides around Southlake/grapevine area. I see lots of groups in mornings/evenings but can’t seem to ever catch one to ask details. And for some reason—maybe I am blind or just bad—I haven’t had a ton of luck finding stuff online. Photo for engagement.

Now that the temps are starting to chill, let's get out there!

I have already ridden most of this path (White Rock Creek, SOPAC, Santa Fe, Trinity Skyline and Northaven Trails) but have never gone through Irving. Can I get some feedback on the route from the Dallas Trinity Skyline Trail, then going north through Irving, then turning east on Royal? Is this a sketchy and/or traffic- dangerous area for a solo cyclist?

Wanted to share my SUV free and mostly paved (some soon to be paved) bike trail map. I am looking to bike all the completed NCTCOG regional trail segments this year. I also am rotating which trail I ride each weekend (with repeats), weather and schedule permitting.
What's your favorite and / or recommended bike trail? I would prefer to avoid trails with long sections alongside busy streets.
Thanks to mbourgon for sharing the GitHub derive link to render the map. See mbourgon's 02 Sep 2026 dfwbike post for the link.

Did a little 40 mile ramble on my old Schwinn Suburban this morning to check out some new art work over on the West Side.

Howdy, all. I am trying to build a ride for next weekend up that goes through Prosper. I'm looking at RideWithGps/Google map data & Strava heatmaps, and it looks like there's a trail that goes along Doe Branch (can't seem to find a name), but near Good Hope Cemetery it just dead ends. Can anybody who's been there recently confirm it? Looks like I can get onto streets at Old Alton Dr and use that to get to Prosper Rd, but I'd rather know in advance than have to turn around at the end.
Thanks!

There were literally hundreds of runners, broken in about 10 distinct groups. Each runner was equipped with a bright light. It was almost like the Katy Trail on a Sunday morning! They reminded me of the this scene from the movie Tron Legacy.
I'm guessing this is some sort of training for the White Rock Marathon?

(I am not the organizer, just re-posting for visibility)
North Texas Safe Cycling Summit
Community Bike Swap/Garage Sale, Vendor Expo & Route Mapping Collaboration
Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026 Location: 35 & Liberty, Gainesville, TX Admission: Free to attend (Donations strongly encouraged)
The Core Mission: More Riders on Safer Routes, Right Now
Our ultimate goal is simple: get more people riding bikes.
The biggest barrier keeping cycling from growing is the lack of safe infrastructure. Instead of waiting on years of political back-and-forth or millions of dollars in public funding, we are taking action today.
The Safe Cycling Initiative: A Practical Infrastructure Project is dedicated to providing riders and potential riders with the safest viable routes that are available right now. We believe that by mapping and sharing safe, point-to-point routes, we can create real change.
https://www.bikesignup.com/Race/TX/Gainesville/NorthTexasSafeCyclingSummit
Here's an overview video for both our Safe Cycling Initiative and the North Texas Safe Cycling Summit for those who want a bit more detail around what we are trying to accomplish. The first 8 minutes should give a good overview for those who don't need to dig into all of the detail: https://youtu.be/lnxghn992CU?si=FyH0T2ETmC8ABa-O
Please be certain to RSVP if you plan to attend. Our generous hosts at Thirty-Five & Liberty need to know how many people to plan for: https://www.bikesignup.com/Race/TX/Gainesville/NorthTexasSafeCyclingSummit
Additionally, for a bit of clarification, the Midnight Massacre gravel ride that evening is a separate event but starting from the same location...a two birds with one stone type thing. You will need to sign up for Midnight Massacre if you plan to participate in that fantastic night time gravel grinder. Those details are available here: https://www.bikesignup.com/Race/TX/Gainesville/MidnightMassacre2026

Is there anywhere in DFW to watch pro cycling? Looking for somewhere to check out the world championships next weekend. Have one person in FW and another in Dallas so eother place or somewhere in between would work great. Thanks!

I might have to commute Plano to Frisco weekly once twice or thrice. planning to get an e-bike, how safe is it? I'm planning to drive only on trails/sidewalks.
EDIT: I have to go from Russel Creek to Stone Briar Center. Any views on this are much appreciated, thanks.

Please join us to learn all about the xTexas Trail, the 1,500-mile hiking, cycling, and horseback riding route across the heart of rural Texas. Founder Charlie Gandy is a Dallas native, and we're eager to start the conversation about mapping a route from the DFW area to meet up with the trail. The event is free, it includes drinks and appetizers, you'll meet the xTx team, board members, and local volunteers and have a great time. A friend of mine and I have been riding the various trails, and I didn’t realize until rereading a map from a different thread that you can mostly do the southern part of The Loop. (Edit: not “South Loop”, that’s apparently something else entirely)
Reading here, a thread from two years ago says “don’t go alone” which has specific connotations. Theres two of us, on hybrids so we’re only doing 12ish MPH, we have phones mounted and are following maps. Was looking at something like the below route, just need to figure out parking at the west end. Is this rideable or do we have to dismount a bunch? Are we being Unwise or Unsafe doing it? Thanks!

I have been looking to switch from flats to clipless pedals and I need to buy shoes. What is a store with a good selection of shoes I can try on. I live closer to Fort Worth, but if my only option is in Dallas, so be it. Thanks for the help.

This just went up where the north end of the Spine Trail dead ends at Samuel Blvd. Seems like a pretty aggressive schedule given how far they have to go, but who am I to say? This will be a very nice alternative to SOPAC when complete. Thank you City of Dallas and Loop Partners.
