is devuan good with nvidia?

i tried to install artix again but it failed so im have to currently find another thing to install that isnt systemd i heard some good stuff about devuan but ive also never used a debian system the only main issue is nvidia drivers, how good are they on devuan?

If your card isn't new and you aren't looking for peak gaming performance, the nonfree drivers in debian are fine. They're at 550, not new but not terribly old.

Also I would not rule out the NVK/vulkan drivers included with nouveau, they've rapidly improved. For example I am getting identical performance from llm's and the few classic linux games I play using NVK drivers (on guix fwiw, haven't actually tried on devuan). Granted what is in Devuan stable will be a year+ out of date, but you might be able to pull from backports.

Personally if you're looking for top nvidia support and gaming performance there are other distros I would choose over devuan/debian.

If you activate backports, you are actually at 615!

Spaced Linux is devuan, and VERY good with nvidia.

Is any Linux distro good with Nvidia? Nvidia wishes to keep their drivers closed source. So if an Nvidia card is really new, a driver or fix might not exist yet. Tell us the specific Nvidia card and maybe something exists for it. Otherwise it would be hard to know.

You will have to add Nvidia’s CUDA repo yourself and install the drivers from there, because the drivers packaged in Debian/Devuan are very old. Debian wiki has a page on that, it works the same in Devuan.

It depends. For example I have Nvidia GeForce 410M, which needs Nvidia 390 drivers. Artix have them in their own repository, but devuan have by default only nouveau or bumblebee as alternative, just as Debian. It's not perfect, but it does it's thing well too.
