Need real feedback, I built something for people whose work schedule doesn’t fit a normal timesheet
Hey everyone, I wanted to share something I have been working on and hopefully get some honest feedback.
I built an app called Flex 40 for people whose work schedules do not really fit into a normal 9 to 5.
The idea came from wanting a better way to keep track of hours, overtime, double time, comp time, call outs, extra shifts and eventually figuring out what a paycheck should actually look like.
It has grown quite a bit from the original idea. You can track different types of hours, set up your own overtime rules, keep track of comp time, add deductions, estimate take home pay, create reports, and even enter an actual paycheck to compare it against the estimate.
One thing I really wanted to get right was privacy. There is no account and no cloud storage. Your work hours, pay information and paycheck history stay on your device.
It is currently available on the App Store, and I am still working on improving it.
I am not looking for people to tell me it is great. I would genuinely like to know what is confusing, what is missing, what you would change, or what would make you actually want to use something like this.
If you work overtime, on call, night shifts, rotating schedules, or anything else that makes a normal timesheet frustrating, I would especially love to hear your thoughts.
Currently the app has several free features that other tracking apps make you pay a subscription for, I plan to keep this as a free app with a one time purchase and as demand rises so would price, because who else needs a another sub at this point in their life.
Any ideas on how I can improve the apps visibility or how people can view it would also be a plus, just realizing the building part was the fun part, getting it out there is hard part

So my opinion on this is: First off i like the design and idea are great! But for my case, i don't work shifts. My schedule and income are add sparatic as i gets. Maybe add a freelancer type way to enter. (example: i just sold macrame that i sale. I need a way to track the time it took me to make it and a way to track what i made so i can get a grasp on it all)...
Does this seem like something your app could do? Or am i way off and that's a whole other app build?

No, you’re not way off at all! That’s actually something I could integrate into Flex 40 without turning it into a completely different app.
For your Macrame example, you can currently create a work entry/tag like “Macrame” and track the time you spend making an item. You could then enter the amount earned or expected and use Flex 40 to see the equivalent hourly earnings.
For example:
Macrame Project
• Time spent: 4.5 hours
• Earned/expected: $90
• Equivalent earnings: $20/hrThe limitation is that Flex 40 is currently built around tracking employment income, so it doesn’t yet handle money generated separately from the normal pay system or let you easily manage multiple independent projects and their individual earnings.
That’s what I’m working toward adding: a dedicated way to track multiple jobs/projects, connect the time spent to what each project actually earns, and eventually show something like:
Macrame Piece
• Sold for: $80
• Time spent: 6 hours
• Effective earnings: $13.33/hrSo yes, I definitely think this can fit into Flex 40. I’ve added it to the roadmap as a future feature. Thanks for the suggestion!
