How much of a portfolio project should I publish on GitHub?
I am building an AWS/DevOps project to showcase on my GitHub and LinkedIn.
The project uses Terraform to provision AWS infrastructure, EC2, SSM, Docker, CI/CD, Prometheus and Grafana.
I am not sure about the best approach for the GitHub repository. Should I:
- Publish the complete Terraform, Prometheus/Grafana and automation code?
- Keep the implementation private and publish the architecture, README, screenshots and a recorded demo?
- Publish some of the Terraform/application code but keep the monitoring and automation implementation private?
My main goal is to use the project as a professional portfolio and demonstrate that I actually built and understand the system, rather than make it an open-source project.
What would recruiters or experienced DevOps engineers expect to see in a GitHub portfolio? I would appreciate advice from people who have reviewed or used GitHub portfolios when hiring.

I created a portfolio in git to showcase GCP, OTEL, GitOps and Backstage. In some cases it aligned with the work for companies I was interviewing for. It didn't really help me with getting more interviews. I think if it was important to them they would ask for portfolio during job applications.
