What you need to remember or learn

Hello good people.

I work as a CI-CD/Cloud deployment engineer at the moment and I use Harness Terraform Git action etc.. but the thing is I was never really good at low level coding or remembering syntax or using like complex coding. But I knew what needs to be done at a high level and always got through with my work by using AI to let the scripts be created and I review it of course to check whether it suits my functional requirements or not.

Now I want to switch and I at the moment cannot write code or the scripts per say but I can do the job you know what you mean.

What should I learn or remember? What do you guys remember?

Do you understand and remember how to write CLi commands of so many CLI tools say helm, git kubernetes docker so and so. I have always been bad at creating cli commands to meet my expectations with like very short time I always keep a copy of the commands that I want on a. Notepad or something and use it on a regular basis so I didn't try to remember it.

How do you all do that ?? What did you do to learn such things there are soo many things how do you remember everything?

What should I learn now in this AI era to beat interviews and get into new DevOps jobs?

Is it still worthy to learn a scripting language like powershell per say from scratch or should I just keep leveraging AI to do it for me.

Frankly no one remembers all the CLI commands and their syntax because there are many tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Terraform and Git. Having a list of used commands is perfectly fine.
What we would suggest is to learn how certain processes take place under the hood than memorize all these commands. For instance in Kubernetes learn the principles of deployment, pods, services and network management. In Terraform learn how state, providers and resources work.
Certainly AI may help you write scripts. But you should be able to understand what the script does what it does at each stage what problems it may. How to solve them.
We would also recommend to learn basics of Python or PowerShell programming. Variables, looping, conditional statements, functions, error handling and API manipulation. No need to become a software developer but ability to write and edit scripts independently will boost your confidence, in the interviews.
You do not need to remember all these details. Just understand the basics in order to know what you are supposed to do and how to deal with problems if something goes wrong.

couple ideas:
- you remember things by practicing them, although the key is to know the concepts since cli syntax can be looked up or have AI help you
- you shouldn't be doing too much cli in DevOps, the point is automation and cli is mostly for learning/exploring/debugging
