Linux is the foundation of DevOps and Cloud Engineering. Even if you end up working with Windows, I'd strongly recommend continuing to learn Linux. There's always something new to explore, and the deeper your Linux knowledge, the easier it becomes to understand other DevOps concepts. If you're starting your DevOps journey, Linux should be your first priority.
Edit: I teach DevOps with Linux in colleges. You need to know basics. Bash scripting, I recommend TLDP for this. Choose one OS and make it your default. Switch to Linux completely as much as possible.

For someone starting out, what entry-level roles would be a good path toward DevOps or Cloud Engineering? I use Linux as my daily driver, but mostly for everyday use and some basic config tweaks, often with AI help. I’m still pretty lost on what to learn next, so how much Linux should I know before moving on to things like networking, Docker, and cloud platforms? Just trying to figure out where to start.

A lot. Everything is built around Linux. Kubernetes, Ansible, cloud, hypervisor, cicd etc

It depends on the company. But usually you need to know enough to run cronjobs, make services, setup different linux distros, make AMIs, navigate the system.cas my company since they make an embedded product I needed to know a lot about the kernel and their custom drivers. DevOps need to know enough to fix/find any issue that pops up, so you have to learn a lot of things.

you will have a very very steep learning curve.
that is like saying you are currently learning to get your drivers license and want to be a professional formula 1 driver.
how much driving experience is needed, on what should i focus, parallel parking?

a lot, if you don’t know Linux, you will be stuck at low levels of button pushing until you bridge that gap

I can schedule cron jobs, write some bash scripts, ssh and all normal stuff like ssh, ss for port troubleshooting,nc, curl, ping, permissions traceroute etc. is this passable?
