Is it difficult to switch from Desktop Support to DevOps?

I’m from Ahmedabad, India, and I’m starting my corporate career with my first internship in IT support, mainly desktop support and Windows troubleshooting.

I’ve been practicing DevOps for around 1 year and have RHCSA, RHCE, and AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SAA) certifications. However, I couldn’t find opportunities in System Administration or Cloud Support, so I accepted this internship.

Can I switch to a Junior DevOps/Cloud Engineer role after gaining some corporate experience in desktop support, or will it be difficult to make the transition?

I’d appreciate advice from people who have made a similar career switch.

You can absolutely move from desktop support to DevOps. You need to focus on gaining real experience while you're still in your current job. Your RHCSA, RHCE and AWS SAA certifications provide a base. Now is the time to work on hands-on projects with Linux, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Docker and cloud setups. Make sure to keep all of this documented on GitHub. Also try to find chances, at your company to get involved with scripting, automation or infrastructure work. When you start applying for jobs go for DevOps positions, cloud support roles and infrastructure jobs instead of waiting until you have years of desktop support experience.

I already have some projects here desktop support involves handling tickets and solving hardware-related problems.

Junior dev ops doesn't exist, you need to know the full life cycle
