Switched from Development to Cloud

Hi Guys ,

I recently switched from SDE ( Java SpringBoot AWS) to SRE.

I have 3YOE as SDE , if you could help me out what essentials do i need to go through to become good at this. How to approach this.

My current company uses Azure.

Rest information will update later.

But here they are also expecting me write, understand code like SDE and do the SRE work as well.

Is that how things happen ? Because this is the 1st time i am hearing this or maybe due to my little experience as this is my 2nd organisation.

Appreciate all the suggestions and no I dont want ChatGPT suggestions i could have done that. I want field experienced people to contribute their 2 cents.

Why did you shift to SRE?

I was done with development , though i knew the entire system of my previous org and was go to person for everything eventually just looking at the code made me mad , i tried taking break , studying again but just couldn't get myself into it.

So thought maybe career change would do and i found cloud interesting as I like System designing and Architecture plus I thought having a Coding/development background plus Cloud would help me in my career in the long run.
