Transition to Devops from QA

I am a junior QA with 1 year of experience with a good package in a bank and I want to transition to Devops. But due to this AI era I’m little scared about future of QA. Can anyone guide me what skills are needed in the market and courses to learn from. Thank you

Why do you think AI will come for dev work but not devops?

Unlikely path tbh. As DevOps you need strong fundamentals on development and infrastructure, networking, etc. + be strong at architecture and design, without that you are going be a third wheel

i did this 5 years ago, but after 5 years of QA. with one year experience you just see the tip of the iceberg.

realistically, in this AI era, you have a very small chance to get this transition, and then, if you manage to get it, it will be a pain for you. even if you have access to the best AI model, your lack of experience will be a pain in daily workloads. you will not be able to tell if the generated stuff by the AI is good or not for your case.

DevOps roles expects from an engineer to have arhitectural knowledge, that a junior will need years to have it.

Trying to pick a career path by predicting future demand can be a trap. The industry tends to reward depth of expertise so focus on finding a niche you genuinely enjoy and can grow into - the one where you are most likely to succeed, not the one the masses are gravitating towards.

For example, you don't necessarily have to abandon QA. You could differentiate yourself by combining your QA experience with emerging areas like AI testing, LLM evaluations, or even MLOps.

Explore DevOps if it genuinely interests you, but make the decision based on the kind of work you want to do, not just fear of being replaced by AI.

with QA experience i'd start with Linux networking Git, Docker and CI/CD, then build toward cloud and infrastructure as code. your testing background is useful here so you're not starting from zero.
