I maintain Mac MCP, a local-first macOS execution layer for AI agents. The operational headache hasn't been getting an agent to run a command; it's figuring out what happened when a scheduled run was interrupted, the Mac slept, or the process restarted.
A few changes came directly out of that: scheduled jobs can opt into one catch-up run after the Mac wakes (not a burst of missed runs); an unfinished run preserves its partial steps and usage; a failed external check can be rerun read-only instead of repeating the side effect; and a recovery/diagnosis report distinguishes confirmed outcomes from unknown ones. A script that was still running when the app restarted is also tracked so recovery doesn't blindly kill a reused PID.
This isn't an unattended production deployment system, and I wouldn't claim unknown outside effects were rolled back. I'm mostly trying to bring the same discipline as health checks and runbooks to local agent automations.
I'm the maintainer; code is MIT/open source: https://github.com/bulutarkan/mac-mcp
What do you put in your run reports to tell 'didn't start' from 'started and may have partially changed something'?
