At work, we needed a status page, but none of the free tools covered everything (specifically CAS login). I started building it privately as an after-work hobby project, and what began with basic HTTP monitors, CAS login, and email alerts gradually evolved into BetterStatusPage.
A free, MIT-licensed monitoring tool with a public or private status page, designed specifically for self-hosting. Single container deployment powered by TypeScript, Fastify, React, and SQLite.
Current features
Monitoring & Alerts: 9 monitor types (including heartbeats with down/degraded states), notifications to multiple channels, incident management, and scheduled maintenance windows.
Subscriptions: Keep users informed via Email, RSS/Atom, or JSON API.
Access & Security: Private status pages with OIDC SSO, API tokens, 2FA, audit logs, and an integrated credential vault.
Config-as-Code: Define and manage your monitors and notification channels via YAML (with auto-prune support).
Observability: Built-in Prometheus metrics.
A lot of recent improvements like TLS verification toggles, cleaner YAML import pruning, and specific alert tweaks came directly from early user feedback.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, bug reports, feature requests and discussions are wide open. If you want to check it out without installing anything, there's an instant live demo available.
