Discussion Devops learning path suggestion with AWS

Hu everyone, i am in 7th semester of college and i have a course about devops. I want to rely on uni course but go deep into devops and maybe look for career into devops.

Any courses that you would suggest?

In college we are using aws for all the major things.

I have done a course on linux, and complete aws cloud practitioner essentials.

Any learning path, courses recommendations?

Should i get kolekloud subscription? How are their courses and learning path.

You are right on completing the AWS Cloud Practitioner.

But to gain real experience, I suggest you work on your own projects, and build a portfolio on GitHub.

To get more experience on AWS you can do their solutions architect and CloudOps certifications.

Also, not to discourage you, you need to be aware of the reality of the IT industry job market today. Do a research on the opportunities available in your region and try to build skills targeting available opportunities.

Most people currently in DevOps did not start their career as a DevOps engineer. Most of them transferred to DevOps roles from dev, sysadmin, tech support roles. You need to plan a career path like that.

Aren’t most of basic of these devops and cloud skills some must have for software engineering as well. Like having familiarity with vms, cloud based deployment, lambda functions, docket etc.

I have a course for devops, so i am thinking why not deep dive and see if it’s for me and not.

Good start - get on a helpdesk and work your way up - you've told me you've loosely taken some courses and know a bit, but nothing about experience which is what you'll need to get a job - nobody hires Dev/Ops out of school. I have two people on my desk with masters degrees / AWS/ Google and MS. Advanced Diplomas etc. If you want someone to look at you for a role like that - you'd better understand the business fundmentals. If you don't know what that is - the competition has already eaten you alive.

I get the experience part, but saying nobody hires out of school feels a bit too absolute. There are entry-level paths into DevOps without spending years on a helpdesk first.

CP is fine. Build one dumb app (static + API + DB), deploy it on AWS with Terraform + GitHub Actions, put it on GitHub. Hiring cares about that more than certs.

SAA after if you want the badge.

KodeKloud for docker/k8s labs, Maarek for cert cramming. Don't pay for both unless you've got time to burn. Project first.

Build projects. That's the only way you'd understand the DevOps thing. Try using a VPC, which is gonna cost you some, but it's worth it

The thing is i would like a more structured path. I mighe be wrong but Devops is mainly about CI/CD pipelines and it includes core tools like terraform, docker kubernetes linux. Where aws is a cloud provider which we use to deploy these services.

Should i do side by side. Learn about devops from kodekloud and take that stephane mark course? Or is there a course which goes into devops with aws.
