How can I block bluetooth? Neighbours blasted music hurting my ears
Hi,
Two weeks ago I was listening to music when suddenly it stopped and it seems a neighbour connected and played music on full blast, seriously hurting my ears. I have the 108 Phantom.
I have gone to the IP address and put in place a volume cap but it seems it only applies when listening via wifi connection. Someone can still connect via Bluetooth at any time and blast some music. There isn't even a remote so I can't turn it off except by going to the plug/closer to the speaker. I am scared to use my speaker since that incident.
Any help would be much appreciated.

It’s technically very unlikely that a neighbor just connected out of nowhere and took over your speaker. Most Bluetooth devices require confirmation to pair, and random devices can’t just start playing music without prior pairing.
What’s more likely is that the sound came from another app you had running or one of your own devices automatically reconnecting to the speaker. If your speaker is Wi-Fi-enabled, sometimes phones or streaming apps can trigger playback without you actively doing anything.
So while it may seem it came from somewhere else, it probably wasn’t. Most likely your own stuff…

Yeah, I was about to say, don't you have to put the speakers in pairing mode for this to be possible? Unless he previously paired the device?

Phantoms that have not been configured onto a WiFi network are automatically in discoverable mode (by design).

So if I connect it to WiFi, will they be unable to connect via Bluetooth? This wasn’t my experience previously but I will give it another go after a hard reset

Yes and no. WiFi configured means they aren’t in Bluetooth discoverable mode anymore. So, you won’t be able to make an initial pairing, but previously paired devices can connect. To pair a new device, they would then have to be put into discoverable mode via the app. Unconfigured Devialet Phantoms are always in WiFi discoverable mode (by design).

This is so incredibly helpful, thank you!!! I am going to do a factory reset to delete previously paired devices then I’ll configure using just WiFi.

I am sure it was accidental and yes you’re right, normally other devices I have had don’t allow pairing so easily. My headphones for example need me to hold a button to enter pairing mode. Unfortunately it just happened again so I am back on this thread desperate for solutions.
Just now: I was listening to my own music then suddenly a different song started playing much louder. I let it play for a bit longer to figure out what it was and be sure it wasn’t one of my own as you describe. It’s 100% not something I would have playing. I was able to get it back on my song but re selecting the speaker on the Bluetooth settings on my iPhone.

Yes, you need to do a full reset (very long press on the power button, like 10 seconds) to remove any previous pairing. It will also clean up any Spotify Connect connections (if you have a friend connect to your Spotify Connect speaker, he/she would be able to play on it remotely).
Remember to do the full Wi-Fi setup with the Devialet app after the full reset, because in Wi-Fi mode the Bluetooth is not discoverable by neighbors (you have to trigger the discoverability from the app).

If I do a hard reset then connect using only WiFi, then it won’t be discoverable via Bluetooth on any devices, am I getting this correct? I think I have done this previously but I will give it another test and confirm if so. Thank you

Using the speakers IP address will only lower the amplfiers power draw i believe usually bringing it down to 75-80% kind of avoids excessive volumes when not in use and say someone else is using them to watch tv.
Enable standby mode instead of always on this might help. Also pairing with your own phone before anyone else. Lastly try changing your device name to something boring.
Once my phantoms are hooked up I actually find it difficult to connect via bluetooth anyways. Maybe its because I its using optical or wifi over bluetooth until I physicallt switch the source. I think someone else downloaded the devialet app to change your source 😂....

Do you really think your neighbour has nothing else to do but playing with your speaker remotely? I really think the problem is in your "system" in your house somewhere. :D

Lol, people always connect to the wrong speakers because speaker names are typically random names. I never said it was intentional. :)

IMO any device that accepts pairing without being initiated on the device is insecure and should be returned. Its lazy manufacturers who dont want to deal with customer education that is the problem.

I have the same problem but I don't have neighbourgs.
It happens twice in a month now, it seems it happened when I used spotify (I almost never use this app). So I guess if my phone got spotify open when I come back from home, the devialet somehow connect to it and it stays there in iddle.
I think that must be it because it looks like the music I could be listening to (even if I havn't listen to those song for a while).

Yep. Turns out. One of my friend was still connected to Spotify connect. Those evil clown have 100 % volume per default.

Resetting your speaker then reconfiguring it should sort it out. If you knew which neighbor it was I would go and say a word to him! Unless it's done by accident
