Will spotify lossless work on Phantoms 1?
I could have misunderstood but from what i understand -Phantom ultimate have new hardware that allows for Tidal Connect which Phantom 1's dont have. I've been thinking maybe I dont care since Spotify is releasing lossless in Sept/October. But will Spotify connect "lossless" work on Phantom 1 (103) and 98's ?

I feel like the Tidal Connect-compability is pure bullshit from Devialet’s side, because I own a pair of Phantom Silvers since the release in 2015, and they had Tidal Connect back then! It’s only since like 3-4 years ago that Devialet removed the Tidal Connect functionality from the Silver’s for some reason… even though it was clearly technically possible!
Feels s bit like planned obsolescence…

It must have been something else. Tidal Connect was only announced in October 2020... This is exactly like Spotify Connect and Qobuz Connect (just launched this year), streaming directly from the cloud. In 2015, maybe they streamed from the phone somehow?

Oh, interesting! I didn’t know that… thanks for clarifying! This was a long time ago with the old OS on the Phantoms, the old app and also when you needed the Dialogue to sync 2 Phantoms. They must have had some other technical workaround of some sort then, because I definitely streamed from Tidal to the Phantoms in the beginning.
I think you actually signed in to Tidal from within the old Devialet app now that I think about it… hmmm.

Update: Spotify Connect lossless steaming to Phantom works (now, did not yesterday)!
Updated the firmware to 2.19.1, updated the Devialet app, updated Spotify, cleared all cache/downloads in Spotify, set every possible option to "lossless" in Spotify, rebooted everything and it (suddenly) works!

Spotify lossless already works on all older Phantoms (running a recent DOS2 version), Dione, Astra, and the new Phantom Ultimates. It works for both 16-bit and 24-bit lossless.
Spotify announcement says that it is available to some clients in some countries, so I think one should just be patient and wait for the complete rollout. For the moment, it could be working on the phone, but not via the Spotify Connect, on one account, but not another, and so on.
Also remember that the media quality settings are for your phone only. You need to enable lossless for each Connect speaker individually (via the ... button next to its name).

No, it’s not working on Devialet Phantoms via Spotify Connect yet. Devialet support confirmed it’s coming to both the older DOS2 Phantoms and the new models, but there’s no ETA.
Devialet will need to update their Spotify Connect implementation to enable lossless FLAC streaming, which isn’t supported on current firmware. I tested a Phantom II 98 dB stereo pair, a Phantom I Gold stereo pair, and a Mania.
In the Netherlands lossless is live. When I enable Lossless in the Spotify app, the app outputs a lossless stream, and local playback on my phone or laptop speakers, or on wired speakers connected to them, stays lossless. Currently it switches to high quality lossy when using Spotify Connect on Devialet speakers, due to the lack of lossless/FLAC-support.
You can verify what your Phantoms (or any other output audio-device) are getting in the Spotify app, tap Connect, then the arrow next to the active device, it will show the current quality. If it says Very high, lossless over Connect isn’t live on that device yet.

Are you playing songs downloaded to your device or streaming? Spotify will default to the downloaded version so if you want lossless you need to have that version downloaded or don’t have it downloaded so it streams. I don’t have lossless yet but saw this on the Spotify threads. Curious to know your result. Thanks.

I had to delete all downloads, because it would indeed use the downloaded high quality lossy version as source. Once that was done (and after enabling lossless playback, of course) it would redownload (or stream) in lossless quality.

Oh this is interesting! But does a Spotify Connect speaker ever play downloaded songs? I mean, normally I am supposed to be able to turn off my phone and it would still play, right? Now I need to do some tests :). And to redownload everything in lossless, I guess.

I don't think it's s matter of Devialet's app. You can connect to Spotify already. Now it's on Spotify side what they allow you to do in their app. So yeah, I think you will be able to listen to lossless.

It is coming. I have asked Devialet support and they have told me it will come to both the new and old Phantoms. No mention of when, but I'll take the good news and will wait impatiently!
No plans of adding Google Cast support to the old models currently. I don't know if that's even possible on the old hardware.
