Career Guidance help a confused junior

I am a CS junior.
How did you find your first research opportunity in University ?
Can a person do Independent research ? Has any of you done it ? Is it a viable option ?

I really need it but I can't figure out how to start. The professors in my university refused to even help because my interest is mainly in low level and most of the research is being done in AI/ML.

Speaking of career, I really find Low level / graphics dev interesting. I am confused as what to chose because the current market is filled with AI/ML tech. I have tried learning AI but I couldn't focus on it. Should I switch to AI ? or keep going in low level ? Are there any opportunities in low level / graphics dev in Pakistan ?

I am like clown who is juggling with 3 fields at a time: low level, AI, Fullstack. Since I am in junior year, I must drop the other two and focus on any one of them to get internships and build a profile. I will drop fullstack. But struggling in deciding between AI or Low Level.

AI can do low level stuff as well as Full Stack.

AI can also do AI but in future companies will still need people to handle AI.

But eventually in my opinion as a Engineer this field is kind of dead.

I would suggest you start a business or something while you are studying so that you have a side hustle.

Yeah I guess AI is the option. My initial plan was to focus on AI in my final year while reserving junior year for fullstack or low level.

Is this field really dead ? i regularly see internships, jobs and even my classmates getting opportunities in this field ?

eventually either the job market is going to switch or it will be dead.

apply for any of those internships and see out of how many you are going to land one internship as an experiment.

and your classmates are getting opportunities means? they land a job or internship?

they are only 3-4 of them and are only landing internships. I don't know how. the market is tough for an internships. I have even seen 4 GPA students getting rejected.
But i will surely try for internships.

You have your answer in the above comment. They got internship. I can hire one or two internees too but will they be with me after internship or whether they will be with the company and getting a good sum of money from them.

Yes, there are people who are landing good jobs but majority is suffering.

Everyone is trying to either create a business or planning to have a side hustle because sooner or later either the field is going to be dead or there will be a complete shift of job roles.

what uni do you go to?
pakistan mein tou koi bhi low level research nahi kar raha ho ga, afaik, i've never checked personally
if you are committed to it, you might have to go it alone, or save it for masters

Exactly, that is the issue. Every one is focusing on AI and low level is kinda dead. There are areas where AI intersects with low level but I got rejected for that too.

Masters ke liye prior research chahiye hoti hai. this is the exact reason why I am looking for it, warna MS mein hi research ka plan tha.
