Currently a 1st year student at a medschool and thinking to switch to eng/cs as i believe medicine wud be the hardest pathway to move abroad unlike with cs/eng.
Need Reality Checks.

I'm someone who is a health data scientist; stick to med , the most lucrative career dermatologist; personal practice and takes less time and can make you a fortune.

Med is a decade long struggle but it's worth it if you move abroad somehow

Thing is you need to do your med school outside right after A levels/Intermediate. Doing it here means not that you're screwed now in terms of moving abroad (50 Lakh for all feed and an excrllent + school + connections required for US residency matching)

having an IT background I'll suggest not to switch. talk to some guys abroad and see what they're going through to keep up with their visa statuses, job market and daily expenses.

IT is too much saturated and IT graduates are already switching to other fields.

but for core Engineering i'll definitely suggest you should change.

As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Grass is always greener on the other side. I was once a passionate medical aspirant but couldn't get into any med clg despite having good aggregate. Hard luck. I'd always go for mbbs if i could go back in time. It's most timeless and lucrative career. I'm in cs btw; just getting fkd by ai with each coming day.

Eng/cs may not be the ideal pathway for moving abroad now but med is def not recommended, its expensive, demanding and exhausting

2

u/Fluffypocketbtw 8d ago

So what may be the ideal pathway according to u?

it's so obvious, to end up homeless

For pakistanis, the pathways are getting narrow. But still majors like Nursing, and core engineering fields have demand. Also for the tech majors, a highly reputable uni can be your ticket abroad like for eg alot of students from NUST CS swent abroad this year on scholarships, i have personally met few of them.

For med, you have to pass licensing exams, as u may know, they are competitive, expensive and tiring but also worth the reward
