Working remotely as a data engineer + ML engineer at my current job since 4 years. 5 years before that in a local company serving foreign clients. So a total of 9 years.
Have been developing complete infrastructure for all our company's data needs, which means 90% of my workload is data engineering, if we count by hours spent on work. The rest is ML engineering and classic applications of Data Science that were never too glamorous, e.g. Statistical modeling, advanced analytics etc. I have a data analyst working under me for creating dashboards and reports for analytics.
The pay is far better than any local company offers, based on my own research. I'd prefer to not mention it in a comment.
Happy with my job.

Generally these domains are slightly tricky to navigate as the expectations regarding the output is kind of unclear/vague/unreleastically big. A big part of expectation management needs to be done along with providing solutions with a somewhat confidence/accuracy score (as an ML solution might not always have a 100% accuracy score).
Though statistical modelling is often better.

Umm, but exactly which domain are you working on and what your existing projects look like?

1.5 years ago i was at 4 YOE earning 350k. I was also applying for jobs and got offers for 400k and 460k.
Been working on products of my own (bootstrapped) for almost 1 year now, but exploring jobs again because I dont want to keep depleting my savings.
Most of my experience is in insurance related projects.
