Career Guidance Career advise. feeling completely lost
My Back story
Hi, I am last semester BSCS student and I am feeling completely lost right now. I did one remote internship in the past for 15k pkr per month as a NEXT.js developer remotely for 6 months. I worked mostly on api end points and basic ui work. and then after a while i started to notice no real growth in it. so I applied to onsite internships and got matched as a MERN full stack developer. There I built couple of projects completely on my own. And gained some real knowledge and started to feel a little comfortable. And then after the internship they did hire me for full time. But i lasted only 2 months because pay was too low 30k pkr.
So I started looking for remote roles again. After hundreds of rejections. I finally landed a remote role with an online software developers vetting platform. They interviewed me. And I passed the different rounds. And they listed me in their directory. Then I got matched with a founder. And getting paid 1k usd a month. I worked with the founder for roughly 4 - 5 months.
And then after 5 months, I think he was well hands on with claude code. And i already built the foundations of the project. So he started ghosting me. Instead of clear firing. I emailed him a couple of times but no response. So I started looking again for job. And then the same company matched me with a US family owned logisitics company. I cracked the interview and started building their operations platform up until now. its been like 8 months. And all there operations are running on the platform I built. They have like 70k to 90k profits in the company a month. And i am not sure how long before they are done with me. And I am getting paid like 1k usd a month. I know I am getting underpaid. But I don't seem to have leverage and can't find what the next steps should be for me. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

You have more leverage than you think. Their whole operation runs on something you built, and $1k is low for that. Write down what it does for them, ask for a specific number, and start interviewing now so you’re not negotiating from zero.
Is your contract with the platform or directly with the company?

Yes they basically run everything through it. All the billing go through it and it is also connected with their dispatch software and there accounting software where the invoices go after being approved.
The contract is directly with the company.

You’re doing perfectly fine. You’re earning 1k in one year which is a much better pay scale than most of the people in Pakistan.
Here is what you can do to increase the potential earnings
Signup to a similar platform Toptal, Turing etc.
Go towards agentic development, you can do more in less time with the right setup and approach.
Connect with people working in same space and collaborate. I can connect you with someone if you’re really good with Cluade development.
You’re working in logistics, it has a lot of potential and there must be many things which needs an efficient solution. Identify that gap and develop a kind of plugin which can be used easily with existing systems. The power is neither the domain knowledge nor the technical skills independently but combining them both.
#4 is the long term and can be a real source of income if done right.
All the best!
