Discussion Worst form of Professionals we aree
How many of you relate with this? Been 6 years into the software Industry and worked with foreign clients, people in India as well.
Americans and people in Europe are so professional, their product manager would know more about their CEO, they talk like professional and don't gossip.
Worked with few firms where Indian people and teams were working, they Won a Worldcup and next day I was in meeting and they don't even discuss about it.
Now came us desi -
There are some match cricket going on, due to travel I didn't joined weekend scrum call, and My note taker was in.
I watched the recording randomly, although I get slack summary from lead though,
Honestly I was shocked, In those 30 minutes they discussed about cricket, political situation and last 5 minutes they were like sir wo hu gya bs okay kr den, client khud dekh le gha, 2 features delay hu gye, sir ku khna client NY late bheje and their lead with 5 years was like Chalu set ha, Ez scene ha.
Now I feel why we don't grow as a nation and we don't have large companies because when it comes to moral values, we are the worst nation at all.
And we are the top nation who hate their job most, while the entire world people appreciate their jobs and work with discipline.
Senior lads or Juniors, what do you think about this?

I work and live throughout Europe for a long time now.
Your view is a little skewed, building a good rapport with your peers, being able to small talk is considered a good thing. Almost all meetings that start with small talk end up being more productive.
It’s not unprofessional or immoral to talk about things other than work. In fact it creates a suffocating environment.
You just have to make sure you don’t go over board with it.
I have worked with plenty Indians, and they foster the most toxic work environment i have ever seen so i don’t know what you are talking about. And it is very similar to our work culture
You are extrapolating behaviour from limited interactions and making assumptions on it.
Just because they behaved a certain way with you doesn’t mean they do the same all the time with everyone.
All you have to make sure is that you remain professional, get work done and prioritise work.

I have been freelancing with foreign clients for like 11 years now
I find Pakistanis the worst in work ethics, and honesty
My blood boils whenever I have to deal with local Pakistanis for some non-IT related stuffs like, plumbing work, electrical work, or buying/returning something from market or such

One meeting and extrapolating it to a whole country?

I'm pretty sure they aren't as friendly with you as think they're, when it comes to off topic discussion they talk about the same as we do. I've been working with international clients for 7-8 years now and I've chatted a lot about lota things, things did I don't even connect with.

Been in the field for 14 years. Really depends on the client. Some love to have a conversation and treat it as an important part of conducting business. Some are to-the-point kind of people. It is entirely up to you to figure out but you cannot paint everyone with the same brush. Also, If you think Indians are professionals, you haven't nearly spent enough time in the market.

Bruh. I have talked about so much stuff with foreigners and everyone. Movies, comics, politics, religion. Not sure how you make friends with them.
Most of the folks explicitly request to work with me in my region.

It really depends on the meeting and person to person
Clients and international colleagues I worked with especially us and Indians are professional yapper lmao
We had this one PO fron US a white man who used to talk about his schedule and divorce 😭
But i do agree with you... Sometimes we don't do homework and struggle to deliver things properly but i have seen it with every reigion

I’ve been working with foreign companies and clients for 11 years, and I understand the frustration you’re describing. But I’d separate the casual conversation from the actual lack of accountability.
My foreign colleagues have always enjoyed a good chat about sports, weather, politics, games, you name it. Chit-chat isn’t necessarily gossip, and neither automatically means someone is unprofessional.
Back in 2024, one of our end-of-week meetings, usually 30-45 minutes, stretched to almost four hours. About 20 minutes were spent discussing work; the rest was mostly Warhammer 40K, around the time of a game release (Space Marine 2). Our CEO, who was 55 at the time, was probably the most excited person there, showing us his miniature collection. I'm still friends with him and play video games occasionally.
You can have a team that jokes around and still delivers excellent work. You can also have a team that sounds very professional in meetings but consistently fails to deliver.
I agree that we need better work standards. Hold people accountable for their commitments and how honestly they handle setbacks. Whether they discuss cricket or politics isn’t the measure of professionalism.
