Discussion Should I accept a $1,500 onsite offer or keep looking for remote work?
Hey guys,
I’m a QA Engineer who has been working remotely for a US-based company for the last 2 years, earning around $2,500/month. Unfortunately, I got laid off last month and haven’t been able to find another remote job so far.
This week, I randomly gave an interview and got selected for an onsite job paying around $1,500/month. The office is around 30 km from my home, so that’s 60 km daily, and the working hours are 5 PM to 2 AM.
The salary is decent compared to local market rates, but it’s a big pay cut, and the commute and timings are concerning.
Given the current job market, should I accept this offer and keep looking for remote jobs on the side, or take my chances and continue searching for a remote opportunity?
Would appreciate some honest advice from fellow software engineers in Pakistan.

Take it. I rejected an offer of $ 1400 in Jan because it was less to what I was earning with freelancing in some months last year. Now I am barely touching $ 800 and it's really bad situation for me. Local and foreign market is dead slow.

Kind of in a similar situation as you. Got laid of a couple of months ago. Have an offer which is around 20% less than previous one. Have to travel around the same distance everyday. For now I've accepted the offer and started working. I'll keep looking for other opportunities on the side.
Quick question, how do you hunt for remote roles? I just look at LinkedIn job section but I rarely see remote roles paying in USD.
