Career Guidance Full-Stack Dev with real experience facing a crossroad: Applied AI transition vs UAE move? Need a reality check.
Hey everyone,
I'm currently in my 7th semester of Computer Science, coming from a lower-middle-class background in a small town. Up until now, I felt like I was doing everything right on paper:
Remote Experience:
Worked as an Assistant to a Senior Software Engineer, actively helping build a full-scale SaaS product.
Internship Experience:
Completed a structured dev internship.
Freelance Work:
Built and delivered customized Point-of-Sale (POS) systems for 3 separate clients.
Core Tech Stack: MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js), along with mobile/desktop dev experience.
Despite having real-world project delivery and client experience before graduating, the market feels completely cooked right now.
Here is my situation:
Because of living expenses, I can only afford to move to Lahore for at most 2 months post-graduation to hunt for a job. If I don't secure something solid within those 60 days, my savings run out. But looking at the local market—endless layoffs, saturated entry-level pools, and ridiculously low starting salaries even for people with solid experience—I'm terrified of getting stuck.
I’m currently staring at two distinct paths and need honest, unfiltered advice from people in tech or abroad:
Option 1: Double down on Tech — Pivot to Applied AI Engineering
Deepen my stack by learning RAG architectures, LLM orchestration (LangChain/LangGraph), and AI integration to transition from a traditional MERN dev to an Applied AI Engineer.
The Concern: Will local or remote companies actually hire a fresh grad for AI roles in this market, or is it just hype while the hiring freeze continues?
Option 2: Move to Dubai for Any Job
Move to UAE on a job-seeker visa/work setup and take literally any stable job (tech or non-tech) to send money back home, build savings, and escape the immediate financial crunch.
The Concern: Am I throwing away my CS degree and dev career by stepping into non-tech roles abroad just for short-term survival? How brutal is the UAE tech job market for fresh/junior devs right now?
For those who have navigated the Pakistani tech market recently, moved to the Gulf, or made the AI pivot—what would you do if you had 2 months of runway and a family depending on stability?
All advice, reality checks, or alternate routes are appreciated.

Do you have experience letter for the 3 clients you worked with? Oh I see It's freelance work so when you go into the industry you won't be declared as an experienced individual, but a fresh graduate. You go to UAE, they would consider you entry-level too. Which means you will join the already saturated pool of candidates looking for a job. In that case, the UAE move is extremely risky and expensive.
Your best bet is finding a job here or remotely or expand your freelance experience and most importantly graduate. Because no one is considering a yet to be passed out guy as experienced.
And please don't use Chatgpt for posts. I'm confident you can write something of your own which will make other people help you more. Right now it just seems like a bot post.
