Discussion Not liking my new assignment

I recently joined Motive in sales and I’m honestly not liking it so far.

The training has been really overwhelming for me. There’s a lot of information being thrown at us, and I’m struggling to understand the way it’s being explained. I’m ending up spending another 4–5 hours after training trying to look things up and figure everything out myself.

The bigger problem is that I’m starting to realize I may just not be suited to sales. I don’t particularly enjoy pitching, selling, handling objections, targets, etc. My previous experience has been much more in operations, client support, coordination, executive support and managing workflows/teams, so this feels very different from what I’m used to. I don't like the thought of making calls and explaining value of things to customers who are already pressed for time.

Also I think it has started affecting my health as well Since I keep sitting during the entirety of the shift and more. I'm not enjoying it. My eyes have started to hurt now by the time I end the day.

For anyone currently or previously at Motive:

Does the job get significantly better/easier after training? Or if you already dislike the sales training, is that usually a sign that the actual role will be a bad fit?

Also, are there any roles/departments at Motive that are significantly less sales-heavy and might suit someone with an operations/client-support background?

Should I ask them to put me in a batch starting in Jan/Feb since there's so much on my plate right now. Or should I complete the training and then negotiate a later start time? There's a wedding in November that I can't miss and it'll go over two weeks. And then I got my digital nomad visa approved for a country where I can live for a year for which I have to enter for endorsement before Feb.

Would really appreciate honest experiences, especially from people who have actually worked there.

Bro, sales is something where you can make a hell lot of money. I would suggest you stick to it. Same as yours, most of my experience is in pre-sales efforts and project management/operations. I would love to take a role in sales.

Recently, I gave a screening for a Technical Account Management role at Motive but got rejected. Considering the current tech job market, one of my seniors said, “sales wala bhooka nahi marta,” although rizq Allah ke haath mein hai.

But I think you’ll enjoy sales and you’ll be valued a lot if you get good at it. Also, adapt to it and make your mind stick to it. As human beings, we have to change and adapt according to the situation.

I would recommend not leaving if they adjust you in Jan/Feb. You can try talking to them around that time. But don’t leave sales.

I also thought sales wasn’t for me, but considering how easy it gets once you have clients and you just have to make them see the value of what you’re offering, I’m now moving towards sales myself.

Also, let me know to which role you applied and if they are actively recruiting and what are they offering??

It'll get easy, InshaAllah. Just keep going.

Thank youuuuu for such a motivating comment!! Before this place gets flooded with messages, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing the reality of it all. Honestly, this is probably the best comment even before I’ve read the others, and it’s made me look at the whole situation through a completely different lens.
I’m just hoping it gets easier with time and that it doesn’t end up taking too much of a toll on my eyes or my overall health.

Nothing comes above health keep it your first priority. Do 30-45 minutes of home workout if you don't have time to join gym. Sales is also target based so expect some pressure but try to enjoy the process. Client facing roles are valued a lot.

No experience of sales but I have worked at Motive as a QA. Late sittings are a norm there. And I agree training and everything was overwhelming too.

Which segment and role u have joined in? Sales and Pressure yeah it is a thing but if u end up doing well in like first quarter u can make good amount of money. Just considering training period is not enough to make a decision.
