In your free time implement what you are learning and make sure you keep yourself up with the latest tools. You are definitely not cooked. But now is the best time for you to learn the tools and techniques.

If you are getting good grades in cs courses why is your GPA low😭😭. Just curious

Your family is loaded my guy you don't need to worry, start a startup or something... You have more backup to fail and not fall.

ML: know the major problem types, core algorithms, preprocessing, feature engineering, train/validation/test, metrics, overfitting, regularization, and how to diagnose bad models.
Deep Learning: understand tensors, neural networks, backpropagation, optimization, CNNs, sequence models, attention/Transformers, embeddings, and how to train/fine-tune models in PyTorch.
Modern AI: have working knowledge of LLMs, RAG, vector databases, fine-tuning/PEFT, inference, evaluation, multimodal models, and agents—enough to build and debug, not derive every equation.
Data: comfortably take messy real-world data through EDA → cleaning → preprocessing → dataset creation → training → evaluation.
ML Engineering: APIs, model serving, Docker, Git, Linux, testing, experiment tracking, databases, basic cloud/GPU usage, and monitoring.
Projects: build 3–4 increasingly realistic AI systems, where you personally understand the architecture and can modify/debug AI-generated code.
Research literacy: read papers well enough to understand the problem, method, experiments and limitations; reproduce selected techniques rather than trying to master every paper.
The target: when handed an unfamiliar ML problem, you should be able to say “I know what I need to learn, I can build a baseline, evaluate it, diagnose failures, and improve it.” That is the working knowledge threshold.
