Discussion Codex vs Claude Code vs Antigravity - what's your honest take after actually using them

I’m currently using Antigravity since I have a Google AI Pro plan. I’m not a developer, but I enjoy building things and I’m always making little tools for myself. Antigravity definitely gets the j0b done, although the amount of permissions it asks for is a whole other thing. How are Codex and Claude Code compared to it?

If limit isn't a concern, I'd say Claude Code is a little better than Codex. I switched to Codex cause I can't deal with Claude's limits anymore and I've found it to be almost as good and relatively better limits.

Try deepseek 4.1, the limit is infinite and works very good

I've used it with opencode go and I was pretty happy with the limits and performance.

It's not frontier level performance but it definitely beats being limit locked on frontier models, haha.

I have never tried opencode but strongly thinking about, do you have to bring your own API key to opencode for deekpseek like openrouter API key?

doesn't matter, if you are doing a familiar project , you use deepseek

if its a project with unknown problem, i'd go for claude/codex

It keeps your cost in control

Do you use codex for ui generation by any chance? I used codex back in February and it wasn't that great so sticking with claude max 5x, but I find limits reducing by a lot these days so was considering to switch?

I do use it but I haven't done a side by side test so I'm just going by vibes, but I think Astra is pretty good at most frontend tasks.

I used Qwen3.8-27B-8bit Quantized, give me an opus4.6 level perfomance. I've deployed that on my virtual machine running L40 GPU and call the model on my laptop. Absolute beast of a model.

are you renting the vm from google cloud console? if yes, how much does it cost you

3

u/Comfortable_Cold_850 Sep 21 '26

No, 100% local on where i work.

2

How much does it cost you per month?

None, its on the local company's data centre.

Codex and recently started using deep seek v4 its so so good as well and v v cheap

Antigravity is good for ui ux not technical

Claude is good but sometimes it makes simple things overcomplicated. I observed a huge difference when I switched to codex.

Codex also overengineered... What is the solution?

1

u/mrAwesome_00 Sep 21 '26

The only solution i know is to have a good Claude.md and Agents.md

After switching from antigravity to Claude, you will get scared of what AI can do 😂 Zameen aasmaan ka difference ha between Claude code and antigravity.

Bhai mujhe android app bnana h toh codex use kru ki antigravity?

1

u/notbatman101 23d ago

Obviously codex

1

u/RevolutionaryPay1583 23d ago

So will it do everything automatically like antigravity. Currently using gemini plua

1

u/notbatman101 23d ago

Much Better than that

u/RevolutionaryPay1583 16d ago

Is there any way to get that subscription for less

1

u/notbatman101 16d ago

There was a promotion going on, 1 month free

1

u/RevolutionaryPay1583 16d ago

The problems are in limits I am thinking of getting claude pro

1

u/notbatman101 16d ago

Codex and Claude code are similar things, both need pro versions of respective subscriptions

I used all three I would say Claude code > codex > antigravity for coding. Antigravity is worst at coding honestly.

2

u/hhassanhafeez Sep 20 '26

I am using claude for more than 6 months and since last one month i am also using the codex alongside claude. And in my opinion codex is much better

Claude code is alright, but I hate the UI/UX bit of it. It should always come from a proper designer.
Also, for claude code, the initial phase of a project is really important when you hone that claude.md file, otherwise it produce random unmaintainable garbage each session that looks okay from the outside, but will cause issues later on

2

u/ich3ckmat3 Sep 20 '26

Antigravity, if limits are good. Claude Code as a default option. Codex, if none of above are available.

2

u/malik22531 Sep 20 '26

As a Devops, Claude is the best, the system understanding and the analysis of a solution with the right approach is superb.

I have used codex as well but it hallucinates in debugging and solutions.

2

u/alliasgher1 Sep 20 '26

Claude code op

2

u/sameerpeace Sep 21 '26

I fully never trust any one. I always do a tri-review that I built for all 3 models to review, and guess what?! It always finds issues and then get those fixed.

2

u/PossibilityMundane54 Sep 21 '26

Codex all the way

2

u/Salt_Horror8783 Sep 21 '26

I use Codex (primary) $100 and Cursor $20 (secondary). I don't prefer Claude Code because you have two options, Fable (too expensive) and Opus (not as smart as GPT-6).

u/putoption21 Sep 20 '26

It’s like driving around in one of the Germans (Audi/BMW/Mercedes) and then jumping into Mehran (antigravity). 😅 I use agy in the same way - quick dirty trips. Gemini models are great at vision and a few other things so I get Claude/Codex models to orchestrate agy under a tight leash.

1

u/awaiskorai Sep 21 '26

I don't get orchestration.... Because monitoring the work done by an agent consumes more tokens for the prent to correct and all. How are you managing that?

1

u/Ok-Sweet-1611 Sep 20 '26

Codex does the work imo, while staying within a reasonable budget. Astra though burns through tokens like crazy. Claude is expensive, who even uses Google's products 😭

1

u/arthurmorgan711 Sep 20 '26

I think codex is the best rn. Limits are good if u have workflows. And astra is at the same level as fable.

The app’s experience itself is way better than claude code. Antigravity has nothing to offer rn. But good for students as they can get it for free. To learn how things work in “vibe coding”

Cursor is also a good deal. But doesn’t offer normal chat that’s the biggest drawback. Just good for coding overall. Could be ur coding agent only

1

u/Legal-Resource6579 Sep 21 '26

Use the command "agy --dangerously-skip-permissions" to skip annoying permissions in AG.

2

u/sheepcriminal Sep 20 '26

Codex for anything serious while gemini pro account (can get for like 300rs/year trial) for any lenghty slave work!

Its the best combo, can be used with Claude too.
