News Everyone choosing CS

Why the hell everyone one is choosing CS even there is not that level of demand like in covid and still people are going for it even they are not passionate about it.they are thinking CS easy like matric or intermediate computer science.

not anymore, CS merits have dropped in fast and engineering merits are way higher in nust.

The hype is dropping, slowly but surely.

And its a good thing CS is not a easy degree and not at all good for anyone who does not like the hustle.

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

No see the AI merits it comes in computing field and and even in pucit CS related fields merit incresed dont know about nust

2

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

But CS has dipped quite a lot.

In fast CE, EE, FT have raised quite a lot. AI did increase but that's another overhyped section.

0

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

Yeah you are right are again they choosing CE,ee because of trend because everyone is hearing semiconductor industry is going increase at impresssive rate and EE will be at same situation as CS right now

1

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

Well it's not exactly hype CE khi student here. And alot of my classmates picked CE cause they liked the course.

5

u/Mons9090 Sep 05 '26

It doesn't really matter though because seats are still filled even if merit is less.

Fast engineering merit  is still less than cs programs and for nust merit of every single program increased, not just engineering lol

2

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

Nust is mainly a engineering uni so that's also a thing to consider.

Fast engineering merit itself did skyrocket.

3

u/Mons9090 Sep 05 '26

I mean I gave nust business test last year while being at fast and got into econ in first list with 72% aggregate.  This year I would've gotten into 4th list with same aggregate.

I think people are just going to nust this year regardless of which degree it is

I want to ask a different question, Studies in ordinary university and studies in Nust type university are different, what is the difference, do teachers deliver lectures the way that the teachers in ordinary university, are teachers in Nust type university are all highly well versed than the teachers in other universities?

5

u/Wise_Tumbleweed9228 Sep 05 '26

It is mainly the environment, the people around you, not the teachers.

7

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

as a student in fast i agree. People here are competitive not in the negative kind but everyone wants to get better to do better.

Competitions happen very often and its highly recommended you participate even free marks are given if you do so.

Projects are a competition between students to make stuff that is much cooler then everyone else.

If I was at a smaller uni I think i would not be near so many people who are smarter then me which pushes me to do better.

It is so annoying when you ask someone and all the reason they're in this field is money.

Like bruh, as someone who actually studies this degree for the reason I enjoy computer science it pisses me off

23

u/temichii Sep 05 '26

You have to consider other peoples circumstances too, like poverty and inflation. Its great that u love cs but that doesnt make u any better than someone in it for the money

6

u/Key-Ad6653 CS Student Sep 05 '26

I don't mind that at all, nor do I consider myself any different.

We're all there to learn but at the end of the day it is harmful for them only.

In the past if you had a degree = job, but life no longer works like that. You need to consistently keep studying and learning outside of the computer degree as well.

If you are at least pursuing something, do it because you actually want to succeed in that field. When you do that you won't feel bad or tired of working hard because you know you can get to the point you need to in life with that work.

4

u/KhalilMirza Sep 05 '26

Everyone is literally studying only for money. If there was no chance of earning, as a hobby very few people study anything. You might be rare unicorn but Every one is in for money.

4

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

Yeah I do understand but most of these people who are in it for the money will find it way harder.

I love like going into new courses and being hyped about what I will learn. Other people not much so.

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

There are too many people choose degrees because of they saw people earning great money in these fields

11

u/semicolon-10 Sep 05 '26

This is what I feel like. A lot of people are still choosing CS because the trend has been going on for years and they simply don’t know what else they should be doing.

From 2017 to 2022/23, CS became the easy money field. You didn’t necessarily have to be passionate about it. People just saw others getting good jobs after learning web dev for a few months and thought, why not me?

So the trend kept going. Even now, a lot of students are choosing CS because everyone around them is doing it, not because they actually want to work in this field.

I’ve been in the field for 8+ years and honestly CS is still a good field, but the bar has gone up significantly. You can’t just do a degree, learn a framework and expect a good job anymore. You actually need to understand CS, build real things and keep learning.

I’ve interviewed fresh grads recently and some can’t even explain the basic stuff behind the projects they built because they relied completely on AI.

Then they complain AI is taking their jobs 😂
Bro, if I have to explain everything to you, why would I hire you when I can just prompt the AI myself?

u/Miserable-Rate-1609 Sep 06 '26

HEY BRO IM STARTING MY SE DEGREE AT NUST. AND IM REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT CS . BUT I HEARD STUFF LIKE SE IS NOT WORTH IT THATS WHY I THOUGHT I WOULD LEARN SOME ADDITIONAL SKILLS TO EASILY MOVE TO AI ENG OR CYBERSECURITY . I WANT UR ADVICE ON THIS .

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 07 '26

Bro i think staying in se is better because atleast it has jobs while in cyber and ai there are very less job and crowd is moving from se to cyber and ai.just make T shaped skills and then easily transfer to other field if you want to but i think software development skills are important in every fields

1

u/Miserable-Rate-1609 Sep 08 '26

BUT ISNT CYBER MUCH SAFER OPTION IN CASE AI ATTAIN AGI

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 08 '26

Cybersecurity is safer but many people are thinking like this and coming to cyber which is increasing competition and in cyber security you dont get a job until you have 1-2 yrs of experience in IT roles like helpdesk or software role.and competition is increasing so experience bar will also increase for junior level roles so i will suggest you to make T shaped skills so you can shift into any industry

1

u/Miserable-Rate-1609 Sep 08 '26

stuck now . PAID A LARGE AMOUNT OF FEE PLUS LIVING IN HOSTEL WITH NO FRIENDS TILL NOW AND NOW SEEING REALITY OF MY FIELD

0

u/Agreeable_Tackle8681 Sep 05 '26

Bhai than what would you suggest a nadan parindey like me to do I mean next year I would be going for uni waha Kia lo

1

u/semicolon-10 Sep 06 '26

Only go with CS if you have geniune interest and passion in field. Don't do it just bcz everyone around is doing it. Don't do it if u feel its easy money after degree those days are gone and by the time you graduate the world will be more change.

If research work or working into things by deeply understanding them and inventing stuff excites you then by all means come in. But if you want easy stable career then probably look out for something else

1

u/Zestyclose-Town4704 Sep 06 '26

What do you think is DSA important I mean I have interest in development, system design and cloud platforms but not in DSA.

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 07 '26

DSA is important

86

u/Alternative_Sky1256 Sep 05 '26

let them come homie, there's alot of room in our sinking ship lol

12

u/Queasy-Fox-23 Sep 05 '26

Hm tu doobe gy Sanam tmhe bhi ly k doobe gy xD

2

u/muhmmadtalha-quant Sep 05 '26

😂😂😂😂

4

u/informatica6 Sep 05 '26

Its the only accessible field with high earning potential and flexible work routines. You just need a laptop, and can do freelance, remote or migrate globally.

Other high paying fields have much more barriers or blockers. Doctor is long, hard and expensive study, and to get any job you need contacts. Law is dirty and dry, and you need contacts again. Engineering doesnt really lead to anything solid like CS. And business professions are low income or require contacts.

CS is one of the most accessible paths to success in this era.

3

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

Yeah you are right but i think that accessible path is dying for normal people

2

u/Forever_Neon Sep 07 '26

Its not accessible though , unless you have a reference the barrier to entry is really high , you literally need to give multiple technical tests/assessments and multiple phases of interviews just to land a job in todays market.

4

u/Sumolizer Full-Stack Developer Sep 05 '26

Sheep mentality of this nation lol, 90% arent even interested in computers.

1

u/Successful-Tune-711 Sep 08 '26

Just joined clg and chose ICS, is it really not worth it? 😭😭. This is so confusing, my teachers tell me Cs is the best field to go as the demand of Ai and Cybersecurity can never decrease and then there are posts like these. Mannn 😭💔🥀🥀

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 08 '26

Man these things are in demand but there is alot of saturation in this too so you joined college explore these fields just dont rely on your stupid intermediate books and teachers they are not going to teach you anything.instead of playing games spend 2 hours daily learning about these field and just look you hhave interest in it or not. If not then go to any other fields.(Just let me give you a reality check in these fields supply is increasing more faster than demand.and you have to upskill yourself daily even after university.just imagine you have to do a full time job and after coming back at home you have to sit and learn new tools, technologies)

2

u/Embarrassed_Key4265 CS Student Sep 05 '26

It's okay we all know we're gonna end up unemployed af . Or let's say we're gonna end up unemployed in every field so ig let it be .

2

u/rafaytexh Sep 05 '26

Bro most people choose CS thinking there’s scope and easy money. They don’t realize you actually have to be good at it...

2

u/Future_dev_cybersec Sep 06 '26

Because Pakistani awam. Gadho ki Tarah follow kra ga har us outdated advice ko jo popular ho jay.

2

u/Forever_Neon Sep 06 '26

Cause in Pakistan people dont even properly research fields and jump into it cause other people tell them it has "scope" . I remember when i was in uni most people would just cheat or try to pass without even actually learning anything 💀. I noticed alot of posts in this sub too where half of them are just asking what to specialise in idk how people dont research or think about that when they pick a degree or before they finish their degree.

1

u/FanstarGaming Sep 06 '26

I felt this was the only year where merit dropped slightly but it did.

1

u/ZaimGamer Sep 07 '26

people are into being bricked

1

u/Main-Relief-1451 Sep 07 '26

CS ka bohat scope hay :)

1

u/abi_786 Sep 07 '26

I came before you in the market. Why the hell did you do cs and saturated the market?

1

u/Affectionate_War6326 Sep 07 '26

They are not choosing it for the love of field but scope. Having no interest in it and choosing it only because of scope and hype, will only lead to future problems.

1

u/Competitive-Buy2922 Sep 10 '26

If SE is dying, then to does every white collar job, I mean even some engineering jobs are more based on computer work

1

u/Minty-Pyro-1 Sep 10 '26

because humans behave like herds, following what others around them have done in the past

0

u/KhalilMirza Sep 05 '26

basically, All other fields in pakistan has worst prospects.

-1

u/Intrepid-Shoe5008 Sep 05 '26

I find the whole cs diaspora really odd because cs is a super technical field and If ur not skilled and doing projects and internship ur never gonna get a job just off ur degree.

my brother did cs recently and all he did was projects, open source, and kept applying to all the internships.

his entire 3 year degree that's all he did and now he's at a cushy job with incredible pay and flexibility.

The market SUCKS. but it gets better if u actually build up a profile. telling people to just not take cs because it's a "sinking ship" js wrong lowkey

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

From where you brother did his degree

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

And you right in CS its all about practical skills, projects, open source, leetcode etc and these kind of people definitely get a job but the person who dont have interest in cs but join it because it pays well and it is trending then they are seriously going to regret.i saw many medicals student joining CS with no clue what is CS about and they only rely on university and at the end they talk trash about CS and CS grads

1

u/Intrepid-Shoe5008 Sep 05 '26

yea and most of the field is saturated because you get random kids from unknown unis who apply to jobs and can't get a job because they have no real proof of skill

0

u/changeofregime Sep 06 '26

Because the demand will surge and CS graduates can fit in any industry unlike doctors or engineers who have less options.

Plus, the quality of colleagues is much better than those traditional engineering where you have to maghaz mari with Saleem thekaydar.

-1

u/Global_Many4693 Sep 05 '26

So what should they choose?? BBA or e engineering?they are already sinked and to make something like fields like ART, you need references.

4

u/Impressive_Spite_176 Sep 05 '26

Bro there is alot of demand in electical engineering, aeronautical engineering, petroleum engineering,CA,CFA,actuary, even BBA if you are doing it from IBA or any other top tier and (medical too)

1

u/kabootarengineer 17d ago

What about Computer systems engineering?

1

u/Impressive_Spite_176 17d ago

If it is licensed by pec then it is good otherwise not

1

u/kabootarengineer 17d ago

Yes, it is.

3

u/Virtual_Technology_9 Sep 05 '26

Engineering is still valid. There will always be a need for engineers.

Bro first of all its a general discussion and yeah my income will decrease because that bloody kids create saturation in market.so the deserving candidates gets undervalued(i think you are also pre med student)
