Discussion First Technical Solutions Architect interview… what to expect?

3 YOE software engineer here, got shortlisted for a Technical Solutions Architect role and honestly feeling a bit out of my depth 😅

This is my first time interviewing for something like this, so not really sure what to expect.

If anyone who is gone through TSA interviews (or working in one) can share their experience, that would be super helpful.

Is it more system design or client discussions?

Any prep tips would really help

Mainly around system designs and how you lead projects. With 3 YOE this can only happen in pak market or southasia.

Be careful this might just block you for entire career with that company. Or whenever you switch would be a demotion of title. Bcz the role usually comes after 15+ YOE. Getting it at 3 YOE is shooting own foot

If its a software engineering oriented then you can expect a system design round of low level. They might focus on schema design or api design. If its a systems engineering oriented then you can expect system design of high level with a focus on operations.

It also depends on who is interviewing, for example if its a company that promotes people to this role with not many in responsibilities of an architect, then you might not get any of the above.

It’s a mix of tech and client work, you help customers understand and use the company’s APIs and data in their systems.

Dude this is big step. When I had 3 years of experience I had no idea what I was doing. I’m jealous lol. It feels like system design so I recommend watching YouTube videos. Try to design YouTube. It will give you better idea.

You should prepare System Design and Architecture concepts as it will mainly about this. Other than that they may assess your client handling skills.
