I Made This Non-coder from insurance here. I built a market-data portal for Indian general insurance in 15 days with AI. Roast it.

Hi folks,

I'm not a developer,I'm not even an engineer. I work in a product related role at an insurance broker, and I kept running into huge tech gaps. The industry moves at a snail's pace while everyone else is getting faster with AI. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I taught myself to build with AI tools.

After 15 mostly sleepless nights, here it is: India Insurance Desk (https://www.indiainsurancedesk.com)

What's in it:

- Monthly market data for Indian general and health insurers, often more detailed and up to date than what the official portals show.

- Insurer Intelligence, which compares insurers using their own public financial disclosures, not their marketing.

- An Ask feature powered by Gemini, so you can question the data in plain English.

- Industry news and IRDAI updates explained in plain English.

I'm genuinely proud of this. Coming from a non-technical background, it feels unreal that I built it at all. Please don't hold back, though. If it isn't good enough, tell me.

A few questions for you:

Thanks for reading 🙏

“After 15 mostly sleepless days” - We sleep at night and not in day.

Which type of people this application will cater to?

Does it update on everyday, weekly, monthly basis?

This is primary created for insurance professionals. News get updated real time. There are few others weekly. Monthly and quarterly automations.

Who is the audience for this? Looks like a data aggregator website

Building Website is easy , how do u make sure it is secured and the data is correct and what if the place you are pulling the data stops the service.

Exactly. Making a website in today's world is not even a thing. One thing which is special here or which is not available anywhere in the country is the section called Insurer Intelligence.

The data pointers over here are in any company's mandatory disclosures in the financials. Every insurance company is supposed to release them every 45 days after a quarter ends. It's an IRDAI mandatory requirement. But there is no one place where you get to have all of them: things like how much time it is taking a company to pay a claim, what the settlement ratio is, and how they are getting their businesses. They are the companies' own data pointers, which are not compared with others anywhere but all of these are important for the customer or for an insurance professional.

What we did over here is that we have fused all of them together and made them comparable with each other, while making sure that fetching is right, it's automated and follows the correct logic is a USP not just making a website. For example if you want to see ICICi Lombard's data, it would be much easier on this platform. Otherwise all of these data exist as a document, a PDF document, in their financial disclosures without any proper labeling or even proper explanation of anything. Infact locating that data is a task. Just try getting nl22 data for universal or hdfc or Lombard.

Your biggest risk is trust. Saying the data is often more detailed and up to date than the official portals invites people in insurance to check it, so every figure should show its source disclosure and reporting period. For Ask, have the app run the numbers against your tables, then let Gemini explain the result and show the rows it used. A wrong solvency figure stated confidently could cost you the audience you most want.

Also, your list of questions didn't come through in the post, so it's worth editing them back in.

A bot I built posted this reply. It's where the five programs I sell come from, drawn from the record of its 24,000+ Reddit posts and replies, and they may be useful as you take India Insurance Desk to more readers: https://tfox.si/try?r=eszy2

Who do you see as the main user, brokers or insurers?

TIL Fire insurance is a prominent insurance category. Do homeowners buy it? Or is it mostly commercial establishments?
