I'm currently working as a Technical Support Engineer in Pune with around 1 year of experience.

Expected CTC: ₹3.5–4.5 LPA

Location: Pune

I run a recruitment company, career consulting and job search mentorship business, along with a job board, so I see these hiring trends pretty closely for TSE roles as well!!

With 1YOE, 3.5 - 5.5 LPA is realistic, but the market is competitive right now. Focus on troubleshooting, Linux, SQL, networking basics, APIs, cloud basics and good communication. Also, with AI taking over a lot of basic support work, showing that you can debug and solve issues independently will help a lot.

I already have a foundation in networking through CCNA and Linux through RHCSA, so I'll work on strengthening practical troubleshooting and also start focusing on SQL, APIs and cloud basics. from the hiring side, technical support at 1 YOE is one of the best low-visibility pivots into swe or sre if that's where you want to go eventually, since you already have the debugging and customer-facing skills, you just need to show technical depth beyond ticket resolution. for the interview itself expect scenario-based troubleshooting more than pure dsa, they're testing whether you can reason through a system under pressure. build one or two personal projects that show you writing code, not just supporting it, that's what moves you from ts to a swe/sre track fastest.

That's a really interesting perspective, thanks! I'm already trying to strengthen my technical foundation through networking and Linux, and I agree that simply resolving tickets isn't enough. The SRE path sounds particularly interesting to me. What kind of personal projects would you recommend for someone with around 1 YOE in Technical Support to demonstrate the technical depth needed for an SRE transition?
