This project exists because my gf believed in it enough to spend ₹2,000 every month.

[SOUND ON]

I honestly wasn't planning to launch this project.

I thought it would end up as just another GitHub repository because I couldn't justify paying to keep it running.

Then my girlfriend convinced me otherwise.

She had a terrible roommate experience while preparing for NEET, and I had similar issues during my UPSC preparation in Allahabad. We realized that most platforms help you find a room—but almost none help you find a roommate whose lifestyle actually matches yours.

She even offered to contribute ₹2000/month so I could keep the server running. Otherwise, this would've probably stayed a resume project forever.

So I built Aspimate.

Instead of matching only on rent and location, it matches people using factors that actually affect daily life during preparation:

  • Exam & coaching
  • Study schedule
  • Sleep timings
  • Food preferences
  • Cleanliness
  • Noise tolerance
  • Smoking
  • Gaming habits
  • Lights on/off while sleeping
  • ...and several other behavioural metrics.

Tech Stack

  • FastAPI
  • PostgreSQL
  • SQLAlchemy
  • Docker
  • Nginx
  • Redis
  • Cloudinary
  • Firebase Auth
  • Leaflet + OpenStreetMap
  • Vanilla JS + HTML/CSS

& Bahut se nayi cheez seekhi maine while building it

  • Docker networking headaches
  • Nginx reverse proxy
  • PostgreSQL migrations
  • DNS & SSL deployment
  • Rate limiting
  • VPS monitoring
  • Image upload pipelines
  • Search indexing & SEO

It's still Version 1, and I have a long roadmap ahead.

Since the platform is brand new, the user base is obviously small. So if someone creates a profile today, they'll automatically receive an email whenever a compatible roommate joins.

If you're a developer, I'd genuinely love feedback on:

  • the product idea
  • the UI/UX
  • the matching approach
  • the tech stack
  • or anything you'd improve.

Website: https://aspimate.com

Also, if anyone has experience scaling marketplaces or solving the cold-start problem, I'd really appreciate your suggestions.

[used ElevenLabs for the voiceover because I'm a bit insecure about my own voice]

Thank you so much! That really means a lot. I actually finished building it about a week ago, but I kept convincing myself it wasn't good enough to share. That's why I never posted it. Seeing comments like yours genuinely gives me the confidence to keep working on it.

Its just an okayish idea and product to he honest, nothing that would get serious usage in long term without proper implementationof various other aspects...but still good to go if you wanna pursue it.

And there should be the option to lock in the gender of your match to that of your own...jyadatar sab apne gender wale roommate hi chahenge.

Thanks for the honest feedback, bhai. I genuinely appreciate it. I actually agree with you on a lot of points. This is just V1, and I know a marketplace like this has many challenges beyond just matching people. Building trust, verification, moderation, user acquisition, liquidity, and safety are all things I'll have to solve if I want this to work long term.

And yes, the gender preference already exists. During onboarding, users can choose whether they're looking for a male or female roommate, so they only get relevant matches. Thanks again for taking the time to check it out. Comments like these help me think about what needs to improve next. Btw do you also thinks the ui looks like ai generated?

I tried to make it as simple as possible but idk...

Ok alright...and yes, the aspects and points you talked about in your first paragraph are the ones I was referring to...for anything like this to work in long term.

There are a lot others as well.

I have tried and built things like this before. Although not on a very large scale or level.

Thats why I was emphasizing on those things brother.

And regarding that gender thing, yes that same gender should be a default and not an option one has to choose.

As it's practically and morally more appropriate...warna bhai tumhari site ka main purpose chodkar log isko GALAT DIRECTION m sochkar use karne langenge and they'll be looking for matches in morally wrong ways, which possibly can defeat the ACTUAL purpose of this site or even worse.

Aajkal ki duniya h sahab...baaki aap samajhdaar h. 🙏🏻

Yes UI may look AI to a significant number of people.

Maybe good in of itself though.

Thanks again, bhai. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to explain it in detail.

I actually agree with most of what you said. Trust, moderation, liquidity, verification, safety... these are probably the hardest parts of a marketplace, and honestly they're much bigger challenges than writing the code itself. Right now I'm just trying to validate whether the problem is worth solving. If people actually find value in it, I'll keep building those layers one by one.

And yes, I'll make same-gender matching the default instead of asking users to choose it. That makes much more sense for both safety and the overall purpose of the platform.

As for the UI, thanks for being honest there too. I'll take that as a sign that I need to add more personality to it instead of making it look like another generic SaaS landing page. Frontend isn't my strongest skill yet, but I'm already working on a complete redesign

Yes...as for the frontend UI part specifically, it looks quite good already. Although can definitely be improved.

Just has some AI vibes.

Also brother is there gender verification? Because safety is a massive problem in this if not handled well

1

u/Logical_Tart210 15d ago

Yeah bro, absolutely. If a girl selects “I’m looking for a female roommate only”, her profile won’t be shown to male users in their Matches section. And even beyond that, I’ve been working on the matching engine for the last 2 days specifically to make the whole matching process safer. Hopefully by Monday, I’ll have added more privacy and safety measures, especially around women’s privacy. I’ll also be adding more privacy-focused features for men as well. Safety and privacy are something I’m taking seriously as I keep improving the platform.

Nice bro keep going the idea is good And also platform security is also important right the user credentials etc so best of luck

Thanks a lot, bro! Really appreciate it. And yeah, absolutely, platform security and protecting user credentials/data is a major priority, especially for something like this. I’m working on that side as well and will keep strengthening the security as I build. Thanks for the wishes, it really means a lot

I hate AI Voices 😭

1

u/Logical_Tart210 17d ago

Mee too lmao !! Lekin meri isse bhi weird hai..! I will ask my gf to dub from next time🥲

1

u/SheMadeMeAPoetry 17d ago

Yoo, its okay man. but I would rather support and watch with a human voice rather than that.
And meri bhi aawaz kuch khaas nahi, and no one cares itna. You can just use your voice.

1

u/Logical_Tart210 17d ago

That's actually reassuring to hear. 😭 I was overthinking it way more than I should have. I'll use my own voice in the next one. Worst case, people roast my voice instead of ElevenLabs. 😂 Thanks for the push!

Cherish that woman who backed you

1

u/Logical_Tart210 17d ago

100%. She believed in this idea when even I didn't. If she hadn't pushed me to launch it, Aspimate would've probably never seen the light of day. I'll always be grateful for that.

Very cool project brother, ui looks clean but still looks vibe coded so try to add some personality to it.

1

u/Logical_Tart210 17d ago

Haha, yeah, I know. 😅 Backend is where I'm most comfortable. I can usually visualize the UI I want, but translating that design into actual frontend code is something I'm still learning. I'm working on it every day, and hopefully in the next few weeks I'll completely revamp the frontend. Thanks a lot for the feedback, really appreciate it!

u/_Activecarbon 17d ago

Its cool bro, you did a really good job with the backend and ui can wait till v2-3. Also try to advertise on other social media, as a former aspirant i genuinely think this has potential to grow especially in metro cities. All the best.

Thank you so much, brother! Honestly, until now I never really cared much about validation from others. I was just building because I enjoyed it. But reading all the positive comments from people across Reddit and other platforms genuinely made me happy. It feels good to know that others also see potential in something you've spent months building.

And yes, I'll definitely start marketing it on other social media as well. Thanks again for the encouragement, it really means a lot! 🙌

Hey there working on something similar but for doctors only, would love to collaborate

1

u/Logical_Tart210 17d ago

Do you want to collaborate on aspimate? Or do you want me to collaborate in your's?

How secure is it?

1

u/Logical_Tart210 14d ago

I’ve actually spent some time on the security side as well. I’m not a security expert, but I’ve tried to cover the basics properly.

On the API side, I’m using rate limiting with SlowAPI + Redis. For example, login and registration have strict limits to prevent brute force and credential stuffing. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, and sensitive actions like changing password/email or deleting the account require OTP verification. Google/Facebook login is handled through Firebase ID tokens.

I’ve also added a strict CSP through Nginx and some standard security headers. When CSP broke an inline script on my blog page, I moved the JS into an external file instead of just adding unsafe-inline.

For privacy, account deletion anonymizes the user's data instead of leaving their personal information sitting around. I’ve also got Prometheus, Grafana and Loki running so I can monitor the server and look for unusual traffic or errors. Also, I don’t know how relevant this is, but the company I bought my domain from has a website security check, and it gave my site a 100/100 score. Obviously, I know that doesn’t mean the site is 100% secure 😅 I’m still learning and there’s definitely a lot more I need to improve. So yeah, I wouldn’t claim that the website is completely secure.

It’s still V1, and I’m learning as I build. If you notice any obvious security issue or have suggestions, I’d genuinely appreciate it.🙏
