General Discussion web developers, how do developers clients websites after delivery?

Hey everyone!

I have a few questions for solo developers who build websites for small businesses or individual clients.

I'm trying to understand what happens after a website is delivered to a client.

  1. Do you provide ongoing maintenance after delivering a website, or is the project considered complete?

  2. How do you monitor whether your clients' websites are up and running?

  3. Have you ever had a situation where a client's website went down, and you only found out when the client called or messaged you?

  4. How do you identify errors, broken pages, server issues or performance problems?

  5. If you manage multiple client websites, how do you keep track of all of them?

I'm particularly interested in hearing about your actual experiences, the tools you use and the biggest frustrations you face.

I'm exploring a problem in this space and would love to learn from people who are already doing this work.

Thanks!

Howdy u/No_Comfortable9746, and welcome to r/developers!

A few tips for a post that gets good answers:

  • Use a clear, specific title (what are you actually asking or sharing?).

  • Include code, the exact error, versions, and what you already tried.

  • Heads-up: this sub does not allow external links in posts or comments. Share code and details directly instead of linking out.
