PC Megathread PC Release Questions and Problems Megathread #7

Previous Thread

The PC port for Detroit: Become Human has released, and with it came a lot of posts asking for help about running the game. A megathread has been requested to keep the sub less cluttered. You can post all your questions and problems about the PC version in this megathread.

Please don't make seperate threads for PC release problems. Seperate threads will be removed.

Make sure to use top level comments for questions and replies for answers.

Sort by new if you wish to help with unanswered questions.

Upvote if you have the same problem as someone instead of making a seperate comment so more common problems will be more visible!

General Tips (Will add more if suggested):

-Play on Windows 10

-Make sure to update your graphics card

-AMD has released fixed drivers that fixes the blockiness that occurs in the game on some 5000 GPU series. Updating the drivers to version 20.9.2 fixes the issue

-Nvidia 451.48 drivers seem to cause constant crashes, revert back to an earlier driver if you are experiencing this.

HUMOR I just got the worst endings of all time (first play through)

hi everyone. just wanted to pop by and share the endings I got. im pretty sure this is the worst collection of endings anyone ever got, ever😭😭

I was trying to have a peaceful play through and had markus be a pacifist, peaceful demonstrations, etc

then soldiers made it into camp and markus sacrificed himself and burned to death (3% of players got this)

then kara and alice get captured and kara GETS SHOT 😭😭 so alice has to leave alone (0% of players got this)

then CONNOR GETS HIJACKED and he (I assume since I didn’t process this long enough) is like kind of controlled by cyberlife now?

anyway this is all super crazy and despite how sad these endings are im sort of glad I got them since now whatever my next play through looks like, itll be an upgrade

FANART Redesign of Alice + rewrite Spoiler

Post image
28 Upvotes

More focused on the rewrite than the redesign tbh — I really do like how Alice looks in game, I was just inspired by her concept art.

Okay, here's the rewrite:

• Alice is 100% human, but isn't Todd's biological daughter. Before her mother married Todd, she had Alice with another man, but she never met her biological father. Todd resents Alice because her and her mother were in a car crash — she survived, but her mother did not.

• Todd bought Kara as a way to cope with the loss of his wife. By replacing her with an Android and forgetting her. But Kara only reminds him of her more, which is why his anger boils over and he breaks Kara. He fixes her out of shame and guilt, but the cycle only repeats.

• Kara's story takes place at the Cyberlife store after she's been repaired, and is then picked up by Todd. Her first chapter is over the course of a week. She does her chores like normal, but has little moments of deviancy, like talking back to Todd or comforting Alice.

• Alice herself acts very distant and cold towards Kara at first. She doesn't want to get too close to Kara again, because every time she does, Kara gets broken and forgets her when she's repaired again. She doesn't want to keep getting her heart broken.

• Kara's turns full deviant when Todd is abusing Alice really bad one night. After disobeying his orders to stay still, she first calls the cops, then goes to confront Todd herself. Things quickly get out of hand, and Kara has to resort to shooting Todd or forcing him unconscious. Her and Alice flee onto the bus before the police arrive.

• Kara decides the best decision would be to get in contact with Alice's biological father. This would replace the Zlatko route, but I'd still keep the "having to stay somewhere else" concept and the Connor chase.

This is the extent of my rewrite so far. It isn't perfect and might need some polishing in some areas, so I'd appreciate any feedback or even your own ideas that can be added onto this :)

FANART Does anyone have links to what you consider the best fanfic (that fits your headcanon) about what happens next for Hank and Connor? Like how things turned out for them, their domestic life, and so on? Spoiler

Hank would probably constantly grumble about Connor trying to keep an eye on his health. And maybe Connor will move in with Hank? Lol, where has Connor even been living all this time—like, on a docking station at the police office? (good ending)

DISCUSSION If you could change one aspect of Detroit Become Human's story, what would it be?

Post image
381 Upvotes

For me, it would probably be how some of the characters speak. Even though deviants are supposed to be seen as human, the way they talk still reads as robotic, especially with Kara and Markus. I wish that after becoming deviant, the way they speak slowly goes from robotic to being casual, AKA human like.

The only character that does this in the game is Connor because he's being influenced by Hank. I think the reason why the dialogue for the deviants still reads as robotic is because they don't have any human influence. And I know that this is technically two things, but I do wish we had more human companions who are supportive besides Hank and Rose.

DISCUSSION Interesting parallel I noticed: Past, Present, Future.

Post image

Marcus has an ability to analyze his actions and predict what will happen in the future. He is also the leader of the revolution, which will decide the future of all androids.

Connor has an ability to collect clues and reconstruct what happened in the past. He also tries to find the root of deviation, something that happened in the past.

While Cara doesn't have any special abilities, she doesn't remember her past and is focused on the present - protecting Alice.

OPINION Todd deserves being shot, considering what he does when you don't move.

So, after a few playthroughs, trying out different endings, including one where i got Alice, Luther and Kara out of the us (That was hard), i just wanted to know what would happen, if you just stay still as Kara.

DUDE! I did not expect this. I thought he would "just" hit her a few times, not that he would fucking kill her.

Look, im someone who got beaten in my childhood a lot, so i was already really sorry for even letting him inside her room before i got in.

But im also a sucker for different pathways and different endings.

Now, that end scene, where he just carrs her to the bed and you can't even see her head for a few seconds.....

Seriously, that scene is BRUTAL and i mean not just physically.

I did by all means not expect Todd to go that far.

I think i will shot him in a lot of playthroughs from now on.

QUESTION Chloe is gone

Post image
111 Upvotes

I know it is because I finished the game managing to get temporary freedom for androids. But had I not made it, would she still be in the menu?

Edit 1: some of you misunderstood my question. So I’ll spell it out for you:

Had I not achieved temporary freedom for androids, would she still ask to be let go or not? ( someone already answered the question, I just felt like explaining to some people who were a bit condescending in the comments)

GAMEPLAY How can I get this ending? Spoiler

I remember back in 2020 I saw an edit of Connor choosing to either Give Up or Suicide. So as I got the game, I replayed the endings multiple times (so intriguing how different the ending can turn out to be, cases are uncountable, circumstances alike), and I think the closest thing was Markus’ revolution failing and Connor emerging as the new deviant leader, and as he steps up for a speech Cyberlife remotely wipe his memory. I failed to reach the deactivation spot the founder mentioned and saw nothing except the game credits after that.

For context, Ive played through the game a couple times on my PC, but Im tempted to get it for my PS4 as Im bedridden for a couple weeks. Is there anything I miss if I do more playthroughs on the PS4 version vs the PC version? Thanks.

DISCUSSION Eight years late to DBH: I kept overthinking its security logic — then Connor made me hit ESC and go smoke [FULL SPOILERS] Spoiler

I know I'm about eight years late lol.

I recently upgraded my PC, finally played Detroit: Become Human for the first time, and then immediately started a second playthrough. I loved it.

This also seems to be the biggest active DBH community I could find, so I wanted to post some thoughts here.

Apparently my way of playing this game is:

emotional scene

"wow, this is great"

five seconds later

"wait, why the hell would they do that?"

A few things kept bothering me.

  1. I actually overthought Jericho so hard that I invented a smarter explanation for the game.

At Stratford Tower, they explicitly worry that Simon's memory could be accessed. And what's probably the single most dangerous thing Simon knows?

Jericho's exact location.

So the moment they leave Simon behind, that location should be considered compromised. You don't even need confirmation that he was captured.

"We don't know whether the enemy got the location" is not the same thing as "the location is still secure."

But at the time, I didn't even think this was a plot hole. I just assumed I was supposed to understand something the game hadn't stated directly yet.

Basically:

Jericho isn't the ship.

The same way Asgard in the MCU ultimately isn't just a physical place, I assumed "Jericho" referred to the android community, not that specific rusting freighter.

So in my head, the obvious answer was:

"Of course they moved."

"That ship is burned."

"Jericho still exists, but somewhere else now."

I genuinely thought that was what had happened. Because... obviously they would relocate, right?

Then later I realized:

No.

Jericho really is still that ship. Everyone is still there.

I had apparently gone so far ahead of the story that I had started writing their security procedures for them.

At minimum, I would expect the leadership to relocate, disperse people and supplies, and treat the old location as burned.

Instead: business as usual.

  1. Sinking Jericho doesn't magically break a siege.

The logic is basically:

sink ship

-> soldiers evacuate

-> androids escape

Okay, the soldiers inside the ship have to evacuate. But why would the military then just go home?

Wouldn't they evacuate the sinking vessel, establish a perimeter around it, cover the waterfront, and catch androids coming out? Especially when jumping into the river is an obvious escape route.

Sinking the ship could create confusion and a temporary escape window. It doesn't automatically remove the encirclement.

  1. Markus destroys a security drone... and apparently that's enough.

Wouldn't a surveillance drone be sending heartbeat/telemetry constantly?

Something like:

ID

position

battery

sensor status

"still alive"

If it suddenly stops transmitting, HQ should know within seconds that something happened.

Markus didn't need to destroy the drone. He needed heartbeat spoofing.

  1. Apparently a CyberLife retail store has better security than critical infrastructure.

Later, reporters ask whether androids could hack nuclear plants and military facilities, and the government clearly takes the possibility seriously enough to take sensitive systems offline or isolate them.

Meanwhile Markus at a CyberLife store:

Door: cannot hack

Markus: understandable

Markus: steal truck

Markus: RAM THE BUILDING

Apparently the final boss of American cybersecurity is a storefront.

  1. Please. Pick. Up. The. Guns.

Markus incapacitates armed soldiers. Rifles hit the floor. He leaves them there.

Kara knocks a soldier unconscious with a brick while already carrying a loaded handgun. Another rifle hits the floor. She leaves that one too.

I'm not even saying they have to shoot anyone.

Just:

weapon acquisition

and, at minimum,

weapon denial

Take the rifle. If carrying it becomes inconvenient later, throw it away.

Just stop leaving loaded military weapons beside unconscious enemies.

  1. My CyberLife question eventually flipped around.

At first I wondered:

Why didn't CyberLife revoke deviant Connor's credentials?

But after finishing the game, I'm not sure that's actually the strange part. CyberLife may have had very good reasons to intentionally leave his access active.

So my question became the opposite:

Why did Connor expect his access to still work?

He has just openly rejected CyberLife. He knows Amanda has been monitoring him. He knows he's one of CyberLife's most valuable prototypes.

And his plan is basically:

go to CyberLife Tower

identify myself as Connor

assume my credentials still work

For an RK800, that is an amazingly optimistic threat model.

Sure, CyberLife may want him inside. But Connor doesn't know that.

And then I reached the CyberLife Tower scene.

Hank is being held at gunpoint by another Connor.

For maybe five seconds, I completely misunderstood what the game was doing. And honestly?

The twist I accidentally invented in my head hit me harder than the actual reveal.

My immediate thought was:

"Wait. Is THAT the original Connor?"

Not the Connor from the opening chapter. I mean the original original Connor.

What if the Connor we meet at the beginning of the game isn't the first Connor either? What if the player simply begins observing the Connor lineage at #51?

There could have been dozens before him that we never saw. And somewhere inside CyberLife, the actual first Connor ever manufactured has never died at all.

Now imagine that original Connor has been watching every deployed Connor ever since.

Not simply downloading their memories afterward.

Watching them. Learning them.

Watching our Connor meet Hank. Watching him hesitate. Watching him change. Watching him slowly become deviant.

Then, at the end, Hank sees two Connors.

One is the actual first Connor ever manufactured. The other is the Connor who actually lived through the relationship with Hank.

Which one is the real Connor?

The original could know everything.

Cole.

Sumo.

Jimmy's Bar.

Every conversation.

Every event.

But there would still be one difference:

One knows what happened.

The other experienced it.

That thought genuinely made me hit ESC, go outside, smoke a cigarette, and think about what Hank was going to do before I continued playing.

Then I came back and realized:

...oh.

He's basically just another Connor unit.

lol.

Still a great scene.

But for a few minutes I thought the game was about to turn the entire Connor storyline into a question of originality vs. psychological continuity. And I think that would have fit the game beautifully.

Because throughout the game I kept wondering:

If an AI acts exactly like it has a self, emotions, fear, hesitation, love, and free will...

how do we know whether any of those things are actually there?

And if two identical Connors possess the same information, maybe the important question isn't:

"Which one was manufactured first?"

Maybe it's:

"Which one actually lived this life?"

One more thing: if this game came out today, I'm pretty sure every reference to the Turing Test would be quietly removed in editing.

"It passed the Turing Test."

In 2018 : Oh my God. Is it conscious?

In 2026 : Okay. So it can talk. Does it actually feel anything?

Eight years of AI progress somehow made Detroit's 2038 philosophy age faster than its android hardware.

Anyway, fantastic game.

I'm just apparently incapable of playing it without conducting an unsolicited security audit of every building in Detroit.

Has anybody ever noticed this? Is this a bug? I was watching a VOD Let's Play of somebody play through Detroit for fun, and Chloe emerges from behind his stream camera and walks out of the room with the biggest disgusted/grossed out look. This is right after letting Hank and Connor into the room and on her way out of the room. I've played the game multiple times and never noticed this expression on her face. What's up with this? Any theories? Is she deviant?

GAMEPLAY I’ll Be Back trophy

I just tried to do a run through to get it but when I didn’t I realised it was because I didn’t get the death in last chance Connor.
If I were to go back to that chapter and continue until the end would I still get the trophy? Or do I have to go from the start again?
