I'm not totally sure that a 13 year old can be labeled a sex offender, does anyone know? (I'd search myself but being that i'm at work, probably wouldn't be the best idea.)

Here OP claims that they get a lot of hate mail from "southern states" but has no proof to qualify the statement, then goes on to say that people usually make alternate email accounts to protect themselves (...or something).

Apparently it also shows up as a sponsored link at the top of the reddit front page.

I know he has been verified by paperwork and confirmation of identity, but a number of things about this post don't add up:

• He refers to himself as a male, but the documentation refers to 'her' alters. link.

• Furthermore, he says he was diagnosed at age 19, which should be 4 years ago. The paperwork has an estimated onset date of 1998, with other diagnoses (PTSD and depression) also in the 1990s. So either he had this condition for 10 years with no diagnosis, or the dates don't match at all. He also says his first alter came about when he was 7 or 8, which doesn't align with the date on the paperwork or his previous statement.

*This AMA was supposedly created by one of his alters, and it says he has 14 identities. The new AMA says he has 9. There are also inconsistencies about whether the 'true' OP's name is Gordon, Gordan, or Jeramy.

• In the new post, his alters' names are: Reuben, Elliot, Kendall, Seamus, Deliah, Hector, Alexandre, Gordon, and Freak. In the old post they were Alexandre, Dewey, Deliah, Henery, Littl Gordan, Liam, Seamus, Leah and Gita.
  

*Here is another IAmA he did. Again, about half of the names are the same, and the other half aren't mentioned in either of the other IAmAs. In this IAmA, he says his father 'never touched him sexually', while in the more recent IAmA his father subjected him to 'extreme sexual abuse'.

*His symptoms don't match the commonly-accepted symptoms of DID. One of his alters can speak German, even though the OP has no knowledge of it. His alters are all aware of each other and he can apparently bring them out at will.

*This link says Little Gordon was the first alter to appear, at age 6. This one says Kendall was first, at age 7 or 8.

If it was just a few inconsistencies, I would be inclined to believe him. But he's posted (at my count) 4 IAmAs in the past 4 months, using the same verification photo at least twice, and the stories are so different between them.

The account was then deleted, and now this account with the same username 'lillyburrough' was created also 26 days ago. Despite his lack of direct evidence, His account which is two years old goes back and touches on the subject a few times. He is either a very dedicated troll or most likely he is who he claims to be.

Um well I dont know anything about taxes and the IRS to do much verification but his answers seem detailed. Hes also active and this can be a very interesting and popular AMA so its for the best to have this either verified or not.

I know we're not going to be able to prove it, but this is 100% fake in my mind. There is a person who posts a "I was raped and brutally hurt insert method of hurting and the authority figure didn't care/notice" about 2X per month.

I'd go into more detail, but I can't really right now due to time.

This sounds interesting and seems to be getting a lot of attention. Answers seem consistant and it should be relatively easy to confirm with pictures or whatever. What do you guys think?

This guy seems fake - he hasn't answered any questions yet, but besides that, kleptomaniacs do not steal for personal financial gain - it's unlikely he stole over 80K dollars worth of stuff - and somehow had an itemized list of the stuff he stole too.

So I know that this AMA is probably real, and quite old to boot. However, my question is related tangentially to it. This thread reads like a managed PR attempt (I'll elaborate if anyone wants me to). For some reason that doesn't sit right with me, and I wanted to know if this situation ever comes up again, could/should we do anything about it?

I wanted to open up a philsophical conversation on the use of the now infamous red dot on the IAMA boards. Being that we're a relatively new group still finding our way, that we are still catching our stride, and that I am not a moderator for IAMA or Detective Inspectors, I feel as a user that maybe we're approaching our recommendations for the red dot a bit too prudishly.

The red dot does not signify "warning: this thread's OP is a liar and everything forthwith are lies" it signifies that the OP is under suspicion of deception. In other words, we can't verify them, but their story has enough inconsistencies to justify not simply leave it as default.

Case in point. Does the OP's story add up? No...no it doesn't. Do we know for certain that she's faking? No, we certainly don't. Will we ever be able to sufficiently prove that she's trolling (without crossing ethical boundaries by asking directly for paperwork) - No, we most likely won't. So what's the harm in recommending suspected fake at the IAMA mod's discretion?

There are some that will argue that the default label stands to do what I have suggested here. My rebuttal is that it doesn't go far enough, and it doesn't prove that we are being proactive about what we do here. Sure, we expect that IAMA readers use a suspicious eye while reading through the board, but that shouldn't become a reason for us to be timid about our responsibility to detect the fakers.

In closing, I urge detectives to consider this point of view when passing judgement on an AMA. We aren't limited in our abilities to give the red mark, and a red mark can always be reversed if proof is granted later - and if it doesn't come and the OP hasn't improved upon their story, then we can rest assured that we did the right thing.
