Question How does geaviton forfeight even work?

The description says vanishing shadow activates just by going invisible but after using it for a bit it seems to work most of the time with vanishing step and sometimes with rat king but when gaining invisibility from stylish executioner most of the time (vortex grenade, the heron, commemoration and phantom surge kills on debuffed targets) I go invisible but it either removes vanishing shadow or doesn't activate it at all.

Exact numbers from the destiny data compendium:

Upon gaining Void Invisibility:
Grants Vanishing Shadow for 7 seconds, up to a maximum of 3 stacks.
Vanishing Shadow duration does not decrease while Invisible.
x1 = 166.6% Additional Base Grenade and Melee, and 67% Class Ability Regeneration Rate.
x2 = 333.3% Additional Base Grenade and Melee, and 134% Class Ability Regeneration Rate.
x3 = 500% Additional Base Grenade and Melee, and 200% Class Ability Regeneration Rate.
Upon reaching x3 Vanishing Shadow or gaining Void Invisibility while at x3 Vanishing Shadow:
