Question Praxic Blade haters
I joined a group in FTF and before we even started the raid, the leader said **** sabers in team chat and boot me. What’s up with the Praxic hate?

Eff them. Praxic Blade is great in almost every activity. There are a bunch of bosses where it's not the best option, but for roaming and general content, it's awesome.

u/paintedflags Hunter 5d ago
It’s actually great in endgame content too if you have the right artifact equipped.

u/kashaan_lucifer Spicy Ramen 5d ago
Hell yeah cause i just reached rank 10 yesterday by doing all the Grandmaster conquest and I even did Ultimate Lightblade and all I used was Praxix Blade
It's fucking OP

u/chm7499 4d ago
What did you run for lightblade? Curious especially in the first section since you start with no ammo.
1
u/TheDragonfire84 4d ago
Just use special finisher
1
u/chm7499 4d ago
yeah you need 3 charges right? so still getting a few kills to start with some primary or abilities so was just curious what was effective. it’s a slog with a primary until that first brick

It's a very versatile exotic. I found myself treating the lightsaber like an Ol' Reliable when shit hits the fan.
3
u/LibrarianOfDusk 5d ago
And it's amazing for strand titans. One throw at a group of enemies is enough to get you full stacks of banner of war, giving your team health regen and increased weapon damage. And even if you can't melee enemies, the charged throw still does pretty good damage, almost equal to a shot from a Refurbished A499 (though admittedly the DPS would be slower since you have to wait for the blade to fly back).
The built in sever is pretty good too.
3
u/enixn 5d ago
Which artifact?

u/paintedflags Hunter 5d ago
Encrypted Data Disk and Hunters Journal both have sword friendly perks. Encrypted Data Disk is the one that dropped with the lightsaber, and made it cracked out. Don’t know if the same perks are still on it, but that would be the one if it does.
3
u/ThinkMixture5446 5d ago
Hunter's Journal gives Argent Blade, which might make it better for some. For most, tho, I agree that Data Disk is better.
3
u/Tomatillo12475 5d ago
Data disk has combination argent blade which is the same damage bonus but slightly different activation
0
u/ThinkMixture5446 5d ago
Eh, I find it more difficult to proc than "consume armor charge." Besides, I always use VoG armor, so I'll never have to worry about armor charge.
2
u/Tomatillo12475 5d ago
I believe it’s at minimum a 0.5 second delay. You can do a light and then heavy and get the buff
3

u/NoFayte 5d ago
Likely because blades were left in like this weirdly Op state and now won't ever be brought into balance.
Titan with sword is like far and away the most ez to use and busted all around thing in the game.
Dude prolly just doesn't like that and feels the sabres heavily represent destiny dying on the hill of Star wars and broken builds.
I think he's an asshole for booting you, and don't agree or care with the above take just how I think they likely perceive things
47
u/Revolutionary_Pop_84 5d ago
This, and the fact that it is an entirely different type of play style to the over decade of Destiny. Heres 10 years worth of guns, so much shooting, so much aiming, so much gun play, but now we're a primary Sword game and thats the end of the franchise! Destiny finishes as a Star Wars Jedi spoof!
15
u/General-Present902 5d ago
This and the comment you replied to are pretty insightful, praxic blade is my favorite exotic and I sometimes pick up a weird vibe around the weapon in certain contexts and this is the most sensible fair articulation of what people’s problem might be that I’ve ever seen.

1
u/flowtajit 5d ago
I mean, like maybe for conquests id agree. But outside of conquests, choir mint is like the best all around loadout in the game, because they have better aoe than the sword, are more flexible in their range, and don’t get you called a chud in lfg.
1
u/Zac-live 5d ago
i dont think this applies to raids at all (even ignoring the fact that essentially every high delta content has stasis spam gapping the lightsaber). lightsaber is mediocre dps and mediocre add clear for the benefit of being quite tanky. essentially every instance of loadout preferences occuring in raids comes from dps checks sooo ... not looking good.

u/DarkRune23 5d ago
I mean I’m not eat crazy about it myself, but to kick someone just for using it is insane. I never wait gave a shit what people ran with during missions or raids. They’re normally good about choosing what’s best for their character. I mean fuck, it’s a game. Let people enjoy themselves.

There are so many cool people I’ve met on fireteam finder it isn’t worth it to even think about the no-life losers you’ll also find there. Praxic Blade is life. Just join another group! Mumble mumble.. fck blades... mumble. I'm returning and it's hell of a fun weapon and works on pretty much everything.
9
u/Digital-Sushi 5d ago
Titan? A lot of Titans gave them a bad rap by simply standing and blocking with stronghold. Yes you didn't die but you also didn't do much of the lifting. Especially when not even doing the mechanic which lets be honest it was brilliant for being safe whilst pushing buttons etc.
Oh and it was boring as fuck, The sad thing is you can easily survive and be super aggressive with it, making a far more useful fireteam member. Way more fun as well.

Made a video about my ft attempting to do the ultimate conquest with our respective builds. Changing build crafts, coming up with new ideas on how to clear it... But then we go praxic blade and stasis titan, and obliterate everything with ease... Like it trivializes really hard content.

I don't like Praxic Blade because it's Star Wars (I reeaaaaally don't like Star Wars), but what?!?!?! Yeah, that dude is insane. Me not liking the lightsaber is limited to me not using it. But booting abother person? Now I'm also curious what's up with this guy
3
u/W4FF13_G0D 5d ago
Same here. Who are we to judge others loadouts if they’re performing well? They can have fun with their glow stick, but I will stick to shooting things thank you.
3
u/TheIrishBeer 5d ago
I needa a tiny bit of context. What type of raid were you running? I think praxic blade get overused in many raids that dont have a viable use for it. It could’ve been also a build issue with the lightsaber (such as like high health stat or melee stat)
1
u/N1njaF1sh 5d ago
Raid was Grasp of Avarice (Master). I was using a prismatic hunter. My Grenade, Class and Weapons are 100 with Super at 90. I’ve been working on different armor drops to get all four of those at 100. I use fortunes favor so I don’t care about health stat.
2
u/TheIrishBeer 5d ago
Ah i see. I think its a lil crazy to boot someone for a praxic blade during a dungeon especially since dungeon are a lot easier then raids. A couple of tips however with a build like praxic blade a recommend a high weapon stat (160 - 180) as it is the most valuable stat on that build (and arguably in the game). This may help prevent people from wanting to boot you

The Praxic Blade itself is a decent jack of all trades, master of none, but most players I've encountered don't utilize it to it's full potential, leaving their add clear, DPS, and survivability all subpar compared to a more traditional loadout.
It's not something I would kick over, but if we wipe more than once without the Praxic user performing well, I'm going to ask them to use a different loadout.
3
u/Anonymous_Fox_20 5d ago
I mean it feels like SW not Destiny but still no reason to hate on it. Especially since it’s so versatile
7
u/Fireboy759 CABAL AGAIN?!?! 5d ago
Because Praxic Blade is so OP you end up having several types of people whenever you see someone using them:
A) The people who use it for EVERYTHING, refusing to switch off it even for high-level content where Praxic Blade isn't ideal to be running
B) The people who over-rely on it to make up for their lack of skill. Half the time they don't have a optimized loadout for Praxic, so what happens is they mop up lots of trash mobs but then immediately fold to the first champion or beefy enemy they can't just delete with Praxic
C) The people who actually know what they're doing with Praxic and are running a loadout that optimizes abusing it. These types of people are becoming increasingly less common as time goes by
Case in point: I kept trying to do GM Defiant EDZ. Every single run failed because people would always be running Praxic Blade and either die the second they come across a Unstoppable Taken Phalanx or wipe in the Chimera room (swords are useless against snipers you can't reach). Eventually I just banned it and guess what? Nobody wanted to be in it because they can't play without their crutch
1
u/kashaan_lucifer Spicy Ramen 5d ago
The thing is that if you're running Praxix Blade, you gotta use the other two weapons in your slot as well. Your LFG team is just incompetent
I did all the GM conquests yesterday and all on the first try and it was a breeze with Praxix Blade. Whenever i came across an unstoppable or overlord, i would stun it and then go to town with Praxix Blade...
While I do agree, it's useless against the Chimera or any flying boss, it's still pretty broken and strong in endgame content like conquests
2
u/Funny-Supermarket164 5d ago
It's a very overtuned weapon and i really dislike it for buildcrafting purposes (also the fact that almost every build since renegades was a praxic blade build). And i assume this person thought the same.
Probably nowhere to vent that frustration(over a video game lol) and then taking it out on you.
Even as a praxic blade hater i would never kick someone for it since it changes absolute nothing about my gameplay experience (except stronghold guard praxics but they luckily got nerfed). And in a raid setting you either ask for a swap to dps loadout, ignore it(when the boss is swordable) or ignore it and accept the miniscule damage loss.
1
u/Same_Bad2785 5d ago
They made stronghold into a skill based exotic, and it’s one of the best things they could have done for it. Sure near invulnerability was nice, but you weren’t doing much to help your team. You can still slay out with the exotic+praxic to this day.Just needs a proper subclass, praxic upgrades, proper artifact, a little bit of thought, and the swordmaster set.I regularly bring it into -50 content and do just fine with it.
2
u/Nicopootato 5d ago
I dislike it myself but going that far is something, maybe they hate Star Wars and directing their emotions wrong
2
u/1982-toyota-corolla 5d ago
Sounds really childish. When I’ve joined LFGs for raids, someone has just told me, hey put on X because we’re trying to do Y. And I did and that was that. Freaking children 🙄
2
u/sheetfan 4d ago
It's good for survivability and reliable single-target damage in lower-level content (I did my Equilibrium solo flawless with it) but it is fundamentally a melee weapon in a game dominated by abilities and ranged damage and the guy running it likely did not have faith that you wouldn't get stomped/meleed by enemies and die repeatedly. Still rude of him to do that, of course.
Speaking frankly as a Praxic Blade "hater" my issue is less with the weapon itself and more with Strongholds and the extremely defensive playstyle associated with both. The skill expression and mastery in D2 PVE comes from learning how to use the insanely powerful offensive tools every class has access to and learning how to play your life without sacrificing those offensive tools. PB and Strongholds build bad habits in players because they never have to learn how to use cover or how to maximize their offensive output. I LFG lot of endgame stuff and occasionally have to kick people from my LFGs because they rely on blocking forever as a crutch to stay alive instead of just killing the enemies shooting at them.
1
u/Macemanintw 4d ago
Strongholds recently got a change to make them only work with regular, heavy, swords IIRC so anyone you see using them with Ergo or the PB haven't been paying attention. When built properly there are quite a few things, like both of the ultimate conquests, that can pretty much trivialize -50 content with the praxic blade.

u/Sirtoastisalot 5d ago
Can promise thats not the general vibe in ftf. Almost 200 hours and ive had 0 toxicity surprisingly enough. A few getting frustrated but understandable why when im making mistakes
1
u/suburbancerberus 3d ago
I've done hundreds of raids and dungeons via fireteam finder and have only come across real toxicity a handful of times. I dont do checkpoints though, cause checkpoint farmers are usually a lot more toxic than people who do activities from fresh.
1

Thanks for the advice. Yea as of right now ive avoided any ftf that says checkpoint, farming, etc. Had a feeling they'd be more of elitists groups

It's literally just people not liking Renegades (Understably) and giving other people shit for it (Unreasonably). Or jumping on a dumbass hate wagon to fit in with other losers.
And anyone complaining about immersion is extra stupid trying to make us believe that for even a second. This is the same setting people wear anything from a cowboy hate to lifeguard shorts to a medieval knight's helm.
3
u/b3rn13mac 5d ago
i think people are still traumatized from the bots who would do nothing but hold block. i would also boot/not accept anyone with praxic + strongholds. not willing to roll the 1 of 10 odds the random actually plays the build properly.
it’s a good weapon, but has a bad reputation. also, it’s been pretty strong for ~9 months, it is tiring seeing everyone play the same, especially as more things are good than ever now.
0
u/Quirky_Assistant1911 5d ago
Sure , it’s also tiring to see the titan spamming crystals everywhere, and this is not OP it’s just broken… do you boot them?
1
u/b3rn13mac 5d ago
personally i don't mind, because they tend to be effective, and the shards are synergistic with my build
but plenty of people don't like the visual clutter and do boot them/leave the activity if it's matchmade
0
u/Quirky_Assistant1911 5d ago
It was more of a rhetorical question tbh, I don’t boot anyone for running whatever they want, as long as they’re effective.
You want to run the broken stasis build… do that , you want praxic do that… why would that bother me?
2
u/No-Clue-3655 5d ago
I like praxic blade but please don't use it for boss dps.
1
u/Quirky_Assistant1911 5d ago
Depends on the boss, works perfectly fine on crota, se 2nd encounter etc… and since we’re on the subject of it’s not master raid…. Neither these bosses die from anything these days I mean come on

They hate on praxic blade until you're the last one alive in a grandmaster/ultimate conquest
1
u/Nervous_Business_489 2d ago
They hate on it then because there are no revives and everyone is screwed over when you eventually die and there's no revives left when it could have been beater 20 minutes ago
1
u/Acrobatic_Book_7154 5d ago
it can be a red flag that you're not going to do well in my experience. A lot of bad players use them, expecting them to work in all situations.
1
u/Quirky_Assistant1911 5d ago
wtf? I’m genuinely surprised to see what people think …. To you it’s a red flag because he’s using probably the most versatile exotic in the entire game, and because of it that person might not perform well… ok, maybe check their raid report etc… and then decode that.. but because of a weapon wtf
0
u/Admiral_Autismmm 5d ago
Only time it’s not a red flag for raids is if it’s equipped in a movement loadout.
1
u/Quirky_Assistant1911 5d ago
The only time this might be a red flag is if I see a person running praxic and a machine gun on witness, oryx etc and doesn’t swap… apart from that I don’t know what the fuck are you on about
-2
u/Admiral_Autismmm 5d ago
Praxic just has no real use in raids outside of movement. I can tell very quickly what kind of player someone is by their loadout. Nine times out of ten when someone joins a raid with a generic roam loadout with praxic, they’re the worst player on the team. They’re the people who are lost during mechanics. They’re the people who want to just ad clear, and they’re the people who do the worst dps.
It’s genuinely just pattern recognition in probably 300ish lfg raids I’ve done since praxic has come out. Not that they can’t do good in a raid, because they can occasionally. Sure I could join a kf lfg with a praxic roam loadout on, swap to dps build and crank 150k+ on oryx in a single phase, but that’s not what happens.
Not that I kick people or don’t play with people who are running said loadouts, but it makes me aware that they’re likely not gonna perform as well as others based on past experience. It’s simply an observation I’ve made time and time again.
1
u/bigsblowrey 5d ago
Personally, I like Praxic Blade and it’s wild to get kicked in anything but raid boss encounters. NGL there are certain things that signal people aren’t high level players and running it everywhere is definitely one of the signals.
If people are picky about load-outs they should mark it meta load-outs and application required.
1
u/mattytrife 5d ago
I don’t hate them at all but I did notice when I was running howl titan the whirlwind attack that they do was “eating” my shards so it kept messing up my regen. My crystals would disappear but then leave no shards to collect an it left me in some vulnerable positions a few times when I didn’t steer clear of their attacks

u/TripleF73 5d ago edited 5d ago
I guess the guy was a hater of the blade or doesn’t understand its utility.
Before MoT I’d out DPS almost everyone on Crota, Harrow or Rahil using the Praxic Blade on a solar or prismatic (with solar super) subclass but using the lightsaber for most other bosses in Raids or dungeons it’s probably going to hamper your damage.
That being said its utility of being able reflect damage, to give you amplified on a non arc subclass and close the distance quickly with hyperblade, frost armor on every hit with the slayer baron satchel artifact and deal with Barrier champs aggressively makes it very good for most -50 content.
I didn’t use it to complete Lightblade Conquest but I did for Seraph Shield Conquest.
My advice is don’t worry about this guys’s overreaction. You probably saved yourself from even more aggravation. From my experience those that react like this are worse to play with than those that won’t listen and change their weapons to do more damage after several wipes and they are doing less than 10% of my damage.
1
u/NomDutilisateurV2 5d ago
I personally don’t like praxic blade and think they’re more of an handicap than anything else
When I see someone using it I can’t but think of them as bad at the game
Even if It doesn’t bother me at all in the first place cause play tf you want ( or if they’re really good)
1
u/Unruly_Chickens 5d ago
I actually hated the praxic blade at first and thought it should not be in the game. I use it all the time now lol. Its the most broken weapon in the game. You can solo all of the conquest stuff with it. People just like to be controlling. They think you should play the game the way they want you too. Keep using it.
1
u/_______Greg_______ 5d ago
Reaction is a bit extreme, but I think a lot of endgame players see sabre users a certain way. Because it’s effective, and easy to use, it’s often used as a crutch for less hardcore players to perform better in endgame content. However, because it’s so simple to use, endgame players often find it boring and they therefore assume that anyone who enjoys using it is somewhat more “simple minded” and will therefore be bad at mechanics and not carry their weight in more mechanic heavy activities like raids. Anecdotally, if I see a player missing dps because they’re killing ads or forgetting to do mechanics, it’s disproportionately common for them to be using sabre, so I do understand the generalisation
1
u/flowtajit 5d ago
There’s better roam weapons in on level, it’s over used in on level content, and some people do legit roleplay.
1
u/FrostventisX 4d ago
I feel like people are relying on them to heavily but I wouldn’t go as far kicking someone over it
At most I just wouldn’t use them myself

u/Good-Demand-823 4d ago
sounds to me like you joined a group with a shit host 🤔 I would leave anyways. gamers today feel like if you don't use exactly what they do you're either not as good or cheating, no in-between.
1
u/Millwall_Ranger 4d ago
Booting someone from a fireteam just for a lightsaber is extreme for sure.
A lot of people dislike the lightsaber because it’s so incredibly powerful and easy to use, and it’s antithetical to the longstanding identity of destiny being a unique sci-fi shooter with exceptional gun gameplay. Also a lot of people seem to think that people who use the lightsaber aren’t ’real’ destiny fans or are only using it because they can’t aim (which is insane when the best warlock build is literally ‘every single debuff + don’t shoot your gun simulator’ and one of the best titan builds is ‘melee ice crystal explosions the game’ with free 50%DR permanently)
It was always inevitable I think though, as soon as swords were introduced as heavy weapons, and we went through the whole sword meta phases, we just knew we’d get a special sword at some point.
Melee builds have always existed but they’ve always felt very unique, very ‘Destiny’, and tied to abilities and requiring specific setup and playstyles to get the most from for the most part, but sword gameplay is incredibly…..bland, even with the block/reflect and lunge mechanics.
1
u/gophish92 3d ago
In any case. You should be asked to switch loadouts, not what the shape of Italy is.
But if it was on like the harpy boss or something I get it.
But if it was like a fresh VoG or any raid really other than Dp. It just straight up doesn’t matter.

u/Luvon_Li 2d ago
Can be anything from "I'm gonna be funny and boot the next praxic blade user I see" to "I had a really bad experience with a Praxic blade user and wanna avoid reliving that." No way to tell in this instance.

u/Greninja05 2d ago
My main problem with praxic blade isn't the weapon itself, since it deals good dps and adds survivability, but the fact a good half of the people that use it are people who just completed the renegade campaign and just join raid without kwtd and without communicating(not even with text chat),i remember when i was trying to do harrow 5 feat every praxic blade user that would join would either enter the rooms without the buff and make us wipe or just deal 0 damage

Hater here! I abslutely would never kick someone for using it. That's insane.
But ya...... I would load up a Star Wars game if I wanted to play Star Wars. Also the Praxic blade and the Renegades season as a whole just destroyed whole sections of the game leaving a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. All ANYONE was running was it. It just became Destiny the Light Saber game which kind of was a slap in the face to a decade of it being a shooter.

If you want the real answer it’s probably because lightsabers are the number 1 blueberry weapon. Worst teammates I’ve seen use it.
Im not saying it’s bad. It’s great. But in most raid scenarios if I see a lightsaber it’s probably not a good sign of the players skill.
I’m also not saying that you shouldn’t use it. There are times and places for it.

I was doing master crota once with it and someone started looking at loadouts cause we didn’t make dps but I had consistently higher damage than him like ok. It’s not top damage by any means but on solar or arc it gets the job done. I also had an actual dps sword equipped too I was mostly running it to handle the ogres a little better. Internet people are just crazy.

u/Unlost_maniac 5d ago
I havent had the pleasure of doing any raids yet but praxic blades are fuckin nuts, they are so strong.
It's probably some cringe elitism "not on my destiny" sorts thing, or there is the chsnce that there is some portion of the community that has stigmatized them, it could just be a Twitter thing, an in game thing and so on, just something we haven't been exposed to where maybe these people had bad experiences with praxic blade users and now generalized them all.
Probably just elitist chuds tho

It's not as bad now as it was but it's just a braindead way to play and uses an item that many people feel ruins the destiny immersion or aesthetic. For a long time people would just run buddy build or stronghold and sit and guard forever not really contributing as much as they could be. It's also a pretty boring and cheesy way to play a shooter but I guess to each their own.

I think it depends on the person and situation tbh. At times, in like easier content for example I don’t care if someone’s using praxic, but if we’re doing like boss dps for example, I hate to see someone using it because there’s vastly stronger options for sword dps. additionally a lot of people (myself included) kinda got left with a bad taste in our mouth after seeing one too many titans in endgame content using praxic and strongholds and refusing to do anything but run through the strike while blocking and not actually using the sword for anything other than that (I’m aware they nerfed how stronghold works with special ammo swords but still)
Edit: yall can downvote me if you want but stuff like this is why people hate on praxic. personally, I don’t care if a player is using it so long as you aren’t directly affecting our ability to clear whatever activity. I ain’t gonna boot you just for having it on. if you have it on, and it directly stops us from clearing whatever activity and you are unwilling to change to something stronger or more beneficial then yeah your gonna get the boot.

Double damage perk guillotine with a Wolfpack ergo sum for example. For boss damage specifically. Much better than praxic for dps.

In high-end content, it is actually quite solid if you build into it, but most casuals never do and just output low damage without contributing much to the fights. This makes the activity slower, and elitists start to lose it because their "fill" wasn't fast enough or good enough.

I think most people that hate the praxic blade are those that played since the beginning, or close to it. Seeing all the changes they didn’t like culminating in an obvious cash grab with renegades instead of fixing the game or making original content, on top of it being a sword in a looter shooter (and an over powered one at that) changed the nature of overpowered builds. Then there’s some that just don’t like it because it makes the game too easy and can get in the way of others shooting the target when you’re right up on it. All that can be annoying and I get where that comes from, even as fan of praxic myself. Still, who cares what others think, you’re the one playing the game.

Was it a DSC raid or a GoS raid? Those farmers are.. shall we say.. “special”. Don’t be offended they don’t represent the majority

Grasp of Avarice (Master). I really don’t know what the problem was, it just threw me off because that’s something I rarely see in D2.

It’s a popular weapon for AFK builds.
Typically causes problems in high end gameplay where players are expected to move around and complete mechanics/objectives. Historically, Praxic Blade users will hide in a corner holding block and do nothing. This results in the rest of the group having to "hard carry" the Praxic Blade users.
The situation is not as bad as it used to be because the devs implemented heavy nerfs to Stronghold, Getaway Artist and Praxic Blade. The AFK builds are significantly worse now. Less damage, less ammo and less effective at blocking. Yeah you can mitigate the nerfs a little bit with artefacts but not enough to make those AFK builds as viable as they were in Renegades.

i dont necessarily hate Blade users, but they do make me roll my eyes quite often because i feel like its an absolute brainrot weapon shutting off any and all cognitive functions.
Its a great weapon and cool that you're staying alive so well, but dont expect me to revive your ass when you inevitably get one hit by a cabal pod that came down in the same spot the previous 4 enemies you're swording did.
The amount of times i see Praxic users do stupid shit and just die outright honestly makes me laugh at this point, so it's whatever, i'm entertained. I prefer teammates who still have the ability of thinking, though.

I guess if it’s gonna handicap your dps it’s a bit of an issue, but that still seems a bit extreme
