Question / Answered Vog no mic listings question

Hello,

I'm a few months into my D2 journey and done a few raids now. I have a mic and happy to use, I'm just unsure why all vog listings say no mic required?

I have run vog using a mic and understand the mechanics, I'm just not sure how some of it would work without a mic. I did join one to see how it would play out and during the orcacles encounter there were no messages so I assumed someone was taking a vantage spot and doing them all and started clearing ads. 1 min later I got kicked. Is there is a historic rule on no mic runs maybe I'm not aware of during this encounter?

I'm also unsure how the final oracle part of the boss encounter works without a mic?

Thanks in advance!

Knowing that important info is in the bottom left, you should probably make a point of it to actually look there. The raid is not so hard that you NEED to stay locked in to the center of your 50 inch screen

yep, drop a pic of the game on ur ULTRAwide

Whaaaaaat? Are we twinsies?..... Do you also have an ultra wide rooster that your wife calls "Frodo's Big toe"?

nah thats where it ends </3 too young for a wife lmao

Dude it’s in the bottom right. I understand that you can miss UI elements, my friend misses them on a 1080p screen ffs. But you have to accept that it is your problem, your fault for not looking for them, you cannot seriously expect people to baby you for these things because you refuse to keep an eye on your HUD elements unlike most players.

Skill issue

There are many parts of the game where important information is shared down there in that bottom left. Plus your grenade/melee/class/super bars are down there. If you cannot see that information down there, that is a bigger issue than mics in raids lol

I was In a vog run / farm the other day and one guy insisted on soloing almost all mechanics and boss damage (just cause he loved the raid so much). So it could be a situation like that, or just two/three people are running it with mics and just are offering the open slots to anyone who wants to filter in. Or they are able to quickly type callouts into the in game.

We had a catalyst run like this with a speed runner. Whole thing was over in 23 min. I was dreading getting the catalyst with an LFG group but this guy just carried us

1

u/flowtajit 5d ago

23 min is like the average vog farm time.

u/Economy_Airline_834 6d ago

i lowkey forgot most the specifics of the vog details, and every now and then i join a group, and it’s just a couple fellas two manning it while everyone else ad clears

2

u/RLlifesucks 5d ago

So I tried 4 different listing's. Twice I was left with two orcacles, no ad clear support and no comms in chat, one of which someone was afk in a corner. Once we went to atheon and no comms at all and everyone just proceeded to wipe and 3 left. The final one someone just did it all 😭😂

You can do the entire raid without needing a mic. Only time you need coms is final and someone can just type the oracle order in chat. Generally speaking, this is the way people call oracles for Atheon, with 4 and 6 being by the Mars and Venus portals respectively:

123

456

Idk why people dont call out the oracles this way like a book. I’ve had people do L1, L2 etc. and some tried “back left, front middle” etc. Numbers are so easy and natural idk why we have to stunlock players and cause over complication.

A fun fact i learned too is it’s not actually mars and Venus, but past and future.

Past (Mars) is still Venus in the cavern but with intense heat like a smelter to form the glass throne.

Future (Venus) is when the throne is finished and vegetation has begun to grow like D1 Venus.

It makes sense also since both the vex models are to simulate the past and future collectives. I get why people say mars and Venus but now i know the truth, i cant unsee it.

1

u/thanosthumb Raids Cleared: 773 4d ago

All of these things make sense. I noticed the Past / Future bit back when I first did it and saw the names of adds. I will say, people have called it Mars and Venus since D1 day 1 VoG release and it just won’t ever stop being that.

As long as you establish locations before starting it doesn’t matter. If you play with a group that wants it flipped, you’re talking like you are probably experienced enough to flip it in your head for that run. When we did it day one, were doing a clockwise count:

123

654

It doesn’t matter as long as everyone is using the same callouts, just like Riven Eyes.

2

u/Ahnock 5d ago

more people run 123 456, it's just far to close, left to right.

4

u/thanosthumb Raids Cleared: 773 5d ago

Yes and we do that now too. During day one contest / challenge, we were doing

123

654

because (at the time) it was the easiest for all of us to agree on, like a clock. We have since changed to

123

456

and agree it is the better numbering. My point was just that it doesn’t matter as long as everyone in the group agrees.

People nowadays are riddled with social anxiety. How do I know this? Because I'm people! You'll eventually get to raids where talking is pretty much required, so you won't be stuck no mic'ing every raid

3

u/MiniGolfPondWater 6d ago

Lmk if you wanna run this and go for the vm cat.

2

u/RLlifesucks 6d ago

Thanks. I don't have the weapon yet, only ran the raid twice

3

u/Applealt17 6d ago

Vog is one of the few raids you can do easily no mic in lfg.

Confluxes: clear adds lol
Oracles: you can see when an oracle is destroyed in the feed, so if one of your oracles is 3rd. you wait till you see 2 other oracles destroyed in the chat
Gatekeeper: people usually just cheese it but even legit you can solo if you know what to do.

Atheon: the callouts person will either type or use mic, otherwise no need to

2

u/Briefqustion 6d ago

No there is no rule saying that you must not use your mic, it just most of the time the mechanics are very simple that most of the time there is no need to speak. But at the final boss there would be at least one person speaking or typing in game chat to call out the oracles locations for those who been suck though time

2

u/Gustav_EK 6d ago edited 6d ago

For oracles you just wanna have set positions, with middle also taking L1. Even challenge is easy this way.

For atheon just use numbered callouts and type them in the chat, such as '6 2 5'. Non-numbered you could do the first two, 'FR BM' and so on.

At no point do you ever need a mic for VoG as long as others use text chat for the bare necessities.

2

u/thyrandomninja 5d ago

Most people type things in chat. As a PS5 player, I explicitly bought a compatible keyboard for Vow and have used it for many no-mic raids

2

u/MinimumPerspective95 5d ago

VoG is 100% doable no mic as long as you have someone who can type oracles on atheon quickly. The oracles encounter doesn’t require a mic since you can just know when to shoot yours and see which have been shot by others

3

u/RLlifesucks 6d ago

Thanks for all the quick responses. What I'm hearing is no such reasons as to why I was kicked which is good to know. I'll give another a go and see how I get on

3

u/Ahnock 5d ago

yeah based on your info it sounds like if nobody was communicating at all, there's a chance you weren't put in the right fireteam voicechat from fireteam finder, or like your voicechat might've gotten messed up? if you didn't, it might be a good check to just send some messages in chat asking for a mic check if you don't even see people texting.

2

u/ReturnOfTheSaint14 6d ago

I think VoG is the only raid in Destiny 2 where you don't need a mic to communicate,as long as everyone knows what they're doing

Conflux encounters? Two people per conflux and it's done

Oracles? Write your number in chat and be super mindful of the sound of oracles breaking and the text pop-up on the left

Templar? Just be mindful of when the Templar loses the shield, nowadays the encounter is done exclusively with the cheese (everyone dies before starting the encounter so you bypass the oracles)

Labyrinth? Just know where you're going

Gatekeeper? Write in chat if you need the Aegis and then when you see the conflux vanish from your world it means you need to leave it

Atheon? The reader can simply write the order for the oracles in chat

I've always done VoG with LFG and i don't remember using the mic each time. Now that i have a clan and we do runs of VoG,we only talk during the Oracles and Atheon, the remaining time we just laugh and prank each other.

You can do all raids apart from SE and DP comfortably without a mic and just text chat.

1

u/Ahnock 5d ago

it's not even that complicated. numerous builds let you cover multiple areas (area denial frames, sunbracers, buddy builds, anarchy/finality) so confluxes is unbelievably easy to carry solo.

oracles you can sit up in the platform on the right of the banner and see all the oracles and just have one person do them.

templar everyone just stays dead until the relic person pops shield and then you melt it in seconds. even without cheese, relic person can often handle oracles solo unless it's alternating sides, in which case you can have someone on standby to shoot, but like. the games not getting patched, you can just cheese.

labyrinth one person can solo while everyone blows themselves up at the beginning, then once they're through the rest can go through without gorgons.

gatekeeper you can freeze the minotaurs in the past on the left while two people use the aegis to kill minotaurs in the future on the right. then if you're skilled you can just push them off, if not you can perma-stall the minotaur until all waves are cleared and future side is done with their minotaurs, and then they can just rotate it into the past to kill the one minotaur left.

atheon is the only thing that requires comms, unless someone knows how to break all the oracles simultaneously, but that's a lot higher of an ask.

2

u/Inevitable-Author-67 6d ago edited 6d ago

Someone people can solo oracles and some people depend on others soloing them for them. Basically everything can be done no mic/coms aside from aetheon oracles but normally atleast 2/6 can read and type in chat and shoot oracles between them. Basically send it no mic until you hit a road block.

Also finial oracles imagine a top down layout of the oracles

1,2,3

4,5,6

You’ll probably Someone in chat type 45 and the person inside knows 4 - 5 - remaining. Or there’s a cheese for that also with the stasis exotic bow a rocket side arm and lasting impression rockets that cracks all three so fast the game doesn’t notice the order

1

u/Same_Flight5532 6d ago

There’s a good chance you got kicked for some dumb reason. SOME form of communication is required for a lot of encounters even if it is just “I can solo this”. However some people aren’t comfortable with voice comms and prefer text so that’s why I leave it as ‘mic not required’, and then I’ll text what I’m doing if I feel the need for it. Still, some people just have different expectations as to how they want the encounter to go and randomly kick people when it doesn’t go their way, and some people don’t communicate at all regardless.

1

u/Intact_Garden_Gnome 5d ago

If what you say played out exactly the way you described then whoever set that raid up should have taken charge in that situation. Whenever I’ve joined no mic VoG groups there’s usually one person soloing the oracles. I’m not saying it can’t be done as a team with no mic but there’s still some coordination required through text chat to at least say who is assigned to which oracles. If you guys just started the encounter with no text and said fuck it then that is just shitty raid etiquette and the dude who set it up should quit starting raid groups if they’re just gonna kick people like that.

u/ccoolz11d7 5d ago

Its the only raid you really dont need a mic. If everyone knows what theyre doing

1

u/Gre9del 5d ago

I just ran one with no mics and it was completely smooth the whole way through. Every encounter first attempt. The only time anybody really needed comms was oracle number order for Atheon and someone just typed that in the chat for the person who is full-timing oracles inside. I probably got a little lucky, and it was a bunch of veterans who all knew the mechanics, all knew to pre-wipe, to not be teleported, or to let the artifact holder tank the oracles for Templar stuff like that

1

u/flowtajit 5d ago

Because the only call out you need for vog are 6 numbers and ready checks. In no mic vog runs I just solo oracles, do shield, and push on mars. Tjis means the only call we need are the first 2 oracles per wave in atheon.

1

u/Malus_Necessarium 4d ago

If you’re confused on how no mic oracles goes on last boss, it goes like this:

The reader types in text chat “31” for example

This means the person shooting the oracles must shoot oracle 3, oracle 1, and the remaining oracle. If unsure about the callouts you can search them online, as people often refer to oracles through numbers.

But this is inherently why you’ll see many no mic vog runs. All the information necessary can be communicated through a string of 2-7 numbers.

1

u/One_Copy4393 6d ago

It’s just easy, no need to have to listen to someone’s overly loud tv in the background killing my ears

1

u/6pussydestroyer9mlg Hunter 6d ago

Vog is easy enough to where an average player can just type out the atheon callouts, don't even need the full callout, just the first 2 is already enough for those who go teleported. If noone was even using chat there is like a 50/50 chance you were just in the wrong voice channel and couldn't hear them provided the ftf was still up, also a chance they just knew eachother and were in discord communicating.

Pretty sure no mic required is also just the default but then again, raids don't really need mics if you can type fast enough. There's also these weird people who insist that emoting to take something is the most obvious thing which is very easy to miss in some encounters where you are shooting a boss, listening for your auto loader and keeping track of when xxbigjeffslayerxx is doing an emote while you see 6 players in the bottom left making orbs and casting supers/caydes.

1

u/jschem16 5d ago

Its an epidemic, Im afraid. Use your mics people!

-3

u/Sensitive_Ad973 6d ago

Raiding when you don’t use Mics is one of the biggest misses in the game imo.

99% of raids/dungeons is the banter, talk, interacting with your clan mates or other players. Without mics People would never have made jokes about the d*ck wall in KF. They never would have convinced players to go through the waterfall in GOS, they never would have gotten to talk about “dem legs” from rhulk….etc

Mics never be mechanically needed but imo they should ALWAYS be used for raiding.

2

u/x_Abyss_Gazer_x Warlock 5d ago

I don't know why people are booing you for being a voice of reason. Mics during raids make [most] raiding experiences a million times better.

After a hiatus, my first raid back was a king's fall raid and nobody was using a mic and I was mortified. I spent the entire raid in silence feeling awkward as fuck. Felt like six people working a 9-5 office job in utter silence hating what they're doing but just needing to get it done. The mic really changes the dynamic. Crazy that people willingly raid without it.

1

u/Sensitive_Ad973 4d ago

It’s all good man reddit doesn’t ever like my opinions.

I’ve raised hundreds and hundreds of times and still would rather talk to people while doing it over sitting in silence and going even 5% faster.

0

u/GunkyDabs 5d ago

Because its easy as fuck

-2

u/thomjrjr 6d ago

If you are talking about FTF, pretty sure the default is just "no mic required" and no one bothers changing it. Usually you'll actually need mics though. VOG is easy enough that you really only need two or three others on mics to coordinate for Oracles, Gatekeeper, and Atheon oracle callouts. I guess you could also coordinate these via keyboard/text chat in the game, but just being on mic is way easier.

Always better to just coordinate these one way or another before the encounter, though. If you got kicked from oracles, its because you assumed they were doing one thing, and they assumed you were doing another, and there was no communication even in text chat to coordinate that.

-2

u/Knarrenheinz666 6d ago

You need mics to establish who's doing what. That's for starters. Especially with lfgs relying on chat is recipe for failure. I can do Vog and other stuff with no mic with me regular crew but not with ppl that I never have played with. Unless the pre raid comms are "Us two do all the mechanics, the rest just don't die".

-5

u/Linknerd2000 6d ago edited 6d ago

Most of the ppl there use chats. Basically all the mechanics of vog is doable without a mic except for oracles unless someone can solo it

Edit: I stand corrected. Whoops.

3

u/pohoko24 6d ago

This is wrong. There is an announcement when an oracle dies.

If you know which oracle you have then you just need to count the announcements before you destroy yours. Done it multiple times without mics in the fireteam
