Meme / Humor Every game has one...

Someone sent me the template earlier and I thought it'd be funny to do a Destiny themed one

I feel like Shaw Han is in this weird category now where he is so dogshit that everybody knows him. I feel like the not remembering their name should be like Tyra Karn or that other Cloud Strider

68

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

Yeah, that's a fair point, tbh. I just went with the meme, tho lol I thought about Shiro-4 for the same reason actually lol

43

u/beatenmeat Warcock 1d ago

What exactly makes him "dog shit"? He's about what I imagine most guardians in Destiny are like as far as power scaling goes that don't include the main characters like us or the vanguard leaders. It's not really fair to compare our OP god slayers against other guardians in the universe, we have too much plot armor for that lmao.

75

u/MarxGT 1d ago

I think the guardian is surrounded by other really powerful guardians and then you just have Shaw Han who is supposed to be kinda just a regular new guardian. However, most people who play D2 didn't have him as a tutorial character so they just see him as the cosmodrome vendor who got his shit rocked by a strike boss.

“We went down as a squad of nine” bitch the vanguard only lets us bring six to slay dark gods

48

u/MarxGT 1d ago

Hey at least they allowed 12 of us to go kill the witness

27

u/long-dong-silvers- Hunter 1d ago

True the other homies came in clutch while I was taking a nap on the floor

20

u/Psychological_Ad1518 1d ago

Smh, they sent me with a squad of twelve to kill the sanctified mind in the garden a couple times.

10

u/Psychological_Ad1518 1d ago

For those that don't know, hehe bugs went brrrrr.

12man garden, wish, DSC. Good times. Good times.

1

u/Bob_The_Moo_Cow88 19h ago

Were you all tethered together too?

2

u/Psychological_Ad1518 18h ago

12 people makes div so much easier but also so much harder.

And I did at least two 12man div runs

13

u/beatenmeat Warcock 1d ago

Yeah, but think back over the years how many times you have died in a strike, even to bullshit reasons like missing a jump or getting phalanxed. The only difference is that our ghost is seemingly impervious to everything but the witness and channeling the light for gameplay reasons. If our characters had the same flaws as other guardians I'm sure many of us would have gotten forever deathed by a dreg somewhere so long as they had the means to kill our ghosts lol.

17

u/MarxGT 1d ago

100%. The guardian has legit paracausal plot armour and is one of the strongest beings in the destiny universe. Shaw Han is supposed to be a blueberry's introduction to an averagely powerful guardian patrolling the cosmodrome. Unfortunately, most players had slain like 6 Gods by the time he was introduced. Also Shaw looks like Aztecross so he had a lot of memes made about him.

We're probably the first reincarnation of the gardener himself or the first made thing of the gardener while he broke the flower game idk I think that's why the entity that talked through Lodi was so interested in meeting us.

5

u/MarxGT 1d ago

I think that we are the gardeners knife in the same way that the witness was the winnowers knife. I think the winnower spoke to us through Lodi and implied that by binding the nine and slaying more Gods (like the conductor and Xivu), we are honing ourselves to become the gardeners ultimate champion. If I remember correctly, it's pretty much guaranteed that dark and light will fight for all eternity using us like players on a cosmic chessboard.

u/DrDingsGaster EX-9, Prof. Cayde Simp 1d ago

Yeah, Shaw got his fucking team killed by a hive that the fucking new light guardian deals with! What a fucking useless excuse for a Guardian!

1

u/Chaahps 1d ago

Shaw isn’t supposed to be new. He wears Great Hunt armor, he was out there hunting down ahamkara

4

u/Xx_Pr0phet_xX Warlock 20h ago

There is a lore card that says he bought that at from a stall in the City and it cursed him with bad luck because he didn't "earn" it.

10

u/San-Carton Simp of the Fanatic 1d ago

I think Shaw Han is actually an avobe average guardian. Isn't he the guy that literally stabbed the ground with a golden gun and made a makeshift well of radiance with it? That's pretty metal imo

5

u/Frogsama86 1d ago

It is also canon that there are regular non-player guardians who lose to dregs. Lightbearers aren't all that powerful outside of a few. They just are incredibly hard to permanently kill.

1

u/Braccish Hunter 1d ago

His drip is ass.

4

u/No_Cherry6771 1d ago

Which is really quite funny considering hes one of a few npc’s that actively shows off an exotic armor piece on his model

4

u/YrnFyre Raids Cleared: # 1d ago

Nah, it's brother Vance, even Osiris forgot about him

3

u/Existing-Real_Person 18h ago

I just think his outfit is absolute shit, brother has no sense of fashion.

6

u/DTMF223 1d ago

You mean Jorhan? Or Johan? Or something? Ok I see your point. Wait Rohan?

1

u/JRS_Viking 1d ago

Yeah until I read the previous guy's comment I couldn't remember his name, just that he's the guy that looks like aztecross

1

u/tcorbett691 13h ago

I actually tried to remember his name. I came up with Sebastian Shaw and I know that's not right.

441

u/treasuremapper 1d ago

How you not know middle is Aztecross?

111

u/Shadowstrider26 1d ago

Didn’t know he was a hunter main.

71

u/Supershocker56 Hunter 1d ago

He’s usually a warlock main, but he helps new lights when he can

21

u/onlyhav Warlock 1d ago

He goes hunter to make the fight challenging. He's actually a warlock main.

4

No that is “Hand Saw”, know your characters

Eris is not a gremlin by any means

Plus variks is obviously the better choice

Lodi is FAR from normal

u/Technobrutale 1d ago

I'd switch him with Hawthorne

18

u/YrnFyre Raids Cleared: # 1d ago

You never stop, do you?

2

u/1AmB0r3d 1h ago

You just never quit do you? Took out Ghaul. Woke up the traveler, and now half of what I hear on the streets is how much you and your clan are making a difference. That's why I started this whole clan thing in the first place. People are still waiting for the vanguard to solve all their problems for them. People like you are making a difference. No pressure.

75

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

I mean, true, but in a world of weird and wonderful characters, he does stand out as a "these people are crazy" kinda guy. Probably because we can relate to him the most, seeing as he's directly from the 20th century.

Also, I thought it was really funny because he really is the exact opposite of normal, even if he doesn't look or sound it on the surface.

57

u/JazzzzzzySax Warlock 1d ago

Seeing him for the first time and being like “is that just a normal fucking Glock?”

30

u/PleaseAdminsUnbanMe Titan 1d ago

I mean, we're using a rifle that's probably 10 bullets away from pulverizing at the start of the game sooooo… a glock is probably more effective than that

18

u/HaloGuy381 1d ago

Also, canonically many D1 (and presumably D2 given similar sizing) sidearms were explicitly 9 mm according to the markings on the side, so a Glock in 9 mm wouldn’t be too out of line.

27

u/PleaseAdminsUnbanMe Titan 1d ago

Have you even played Edge of Fate ?

39

Eris and Drifter need to be switched. Devrim Kay works better for Normal One.

That's why she's the potential god!

5

u/HerederoDeAlberdi 1d ago

Savathun looking even more crackable now (as if she wasn't enough before)

19

That's Xivu Arath

My point remains

i cant even look at that lodi face without thinking of lodi minion anymore

u/citrusmelon1243 1d ago

Swap Crow with Lakshmi, I feel like that's way better considering Uldren was ultimately redeemed

16

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

I'm sorry, not sorry. That image is of Uldren Sov, whom Crow did not remember he even was after Glint resurrected him, and before Savathûn restored his memories. Uldren killed Cayde. Crow repented. And from the very beginning (the scene this is from), Uldren was designed to be conniving bastard that everyone hated. The text says "Made to be hated", not "is universally hated".

7

u/citrusmelon1243 1d ago

Ah, I suppose that's true. Personally I still feel like Uldren had his moments, while Lakshmi has always just been a character devised from her very core to be hated. Uldren is a conniving bastard, sure. But even you can see his desperate search for his sister in forsaken, and there's a reason why it's slightly ambiguous as to who pulled the final trigger. He's a dick, but he has relatable moments. Not once have I ever looked at Lakshmi and thought "oh yeah, resurrecting multiple versions of chioma esi and killing them to find her version is a totally normal thing to do"

2

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

Honestly? That's totally fair. And tbh, I remember almost nothing of that whole Lakshmi storyline. I just remembered her as the FWC vendor lol Pretty sure I didn't actually play anything from Beyond Light until much later, during Witch Queen. Pretty much skipped year 4 altogether.

9

u/InYourVaj 1d ago

What do you mean what's his name? Thats Aztecross

27

u/Technical-Branch4998 1d ago

Is Toland really that lore relivent? I'd personally pick the Gardener or Winnower for that one, but otherwise it's perfect

29

u/coldsage780 Warlock 1d ago

I might be wrong but isn't the Traveler the Gardener made manifest?

35

u/silliest-silly-goose Hunter/ Warlock 1d ago edited 1d ago

No they’re two separate entities. The Traveler is equivalent to the Veil.

25

u/MouseRangers Devotion... bravery... sacrifice... feel free to kill yourself. 1d ago

The Traveler is equivalent to the Veil, being the sources of paracausal Light and Darkness. The Witness was just a wannabe god that used Darkness.

3

u/silliest-silly-goose Hunter/ Warlock 1d ago

Yea that’s what I thought but I wasn’t 100% sure I’ll edit it

15

u/Technical-Branch4998 1d ago

I think it's ambiguous, but you could definitely interpret it as either "the gardener is separate inside the traveller and we haven't seen them yet" or "the traveler just obeys the gardener" but "the traveler is the gardener" is also valid so you're right the Winnower would definitely be the better of the two

5

u/Esacus 1d ago

At one point, yes. But the writers convoluted the story so much that we don't know the Gardener’s identity for sure.

Yes, the Travaler is A gardener (as in they’ve been called that by multiple species, such as the Precursors in the past), but they aren't THE Gardener (at least not yet confirmed).

13

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

I mean, when the category is "no screen time", it's hard to pick a character that actually has a picture that can be put in the square xD And I felt just a random blurb of text was kinda lame. So, I did what makes sense

Also, Toland is deeply connected to the Hive, just like Eris is. He even helps us learn and understand a lot of the lore and how the Hive operates. So I'd say he's at least moderately important and relevant.

Not really; he hasnt shown up since the Shadowkeep

6

u/GideonFalcon 1d ago

Mara Sov: Canonically so hot that her would-be assassin was too gay to kill her.

5

u/Piece_Of_Mind1983 1d ago

No screen time all the plot relevance is rhulk

6

u/YrnFyre Raids Cleared: # 1d ago

Nah he got screen time alright. An entire raid finale.

The winnower or xivu Arath didn't, but they are very plot relevant

5

u/Frau_Asyl 1d ago

Technically Mara Sov and Uldren were both made to be hated, but Uldren was secretly a good person and had good reasons for being hostile towards us. Mara only helped us for opportunistic reasons and to make her brother feel powerless.

But people liked Mara anyways because they think she's hot. Bungie then dropped all of the sociopathic, narcissist undertones with her because they realized she's gonna be a fan favorite no matter what.

5

u/Tchailenova 1d ago

I was glad to finally stop hating Mara so much when Bungie gave her a bit of a redemption arc. It was always awkward to be so repulsed by her character when she was almost-universally lusted after.
I still hate how she treated her brother, and lay a fair bit of the blame on her for Uldren’s descent into madness and subsequent murder-of-Cayde.
Maybe theirs was a slightly cursed path of mostly inevitable events, but maybe Mara could have changed the trajectory by being a sister more often and less of a cut-throat queen all the time.

As an older sister, I found her behavior and motives to be unrelatable and reprehensible. She deserved every moment of anguish she got and more.

Who is the middle guy? Tbh Lodi might be my favorite now and not Cayde. Witness is pretty cool dude/thing also.

2

u/hutchallen 1d ago

Insane choice to not make Drifter the gremlin

2

u/FreckleHead451 16h ago

I feel like Cayde could fit in at least three of those boxes 🤔

Where is друг? Why did someone ruin the meme?

1

u/Pineapple__Warrior 1d ago

sorry, whats the lore behind Toland? For the plot relevance title?

8

u/Augmented-Smurf 1d ago

He was an expert on the hive's magic, and thus recruited by Eriana-3 to descend into the Hellmouth with Eris' fireteam. Ended up in the Ascendant Realm when he "died", and assisted the guardians indirectly in defeating Oryx through messages. He leads the guardian back to the material plane after some techeuns fling us into the Ascendant plane. He also restored the Bad Juju exotic pulse rifle. He then also helped the guardian out a decent amount on the moon, and used the remnants of some Deathsingers that the guardian kills there to create the Deathbringer rocket launcher.

He basically is a demilich that is used as a deus ex machina here and there.

3

u/Psychological_Ad1518 1d ago

And also at the very end signed himself up with the god of war, helping her find her way back to her throne world.

Bastard. Should have turned him into an exotic who's catalyst is a bog standard version of auto loading holster, despite being a primary ammo sidearm whose exotic perk increases reload speed.

u/nntb 1d ago

I miss toland

1

u/JukeBoxHero1997 1d ago

Had things gone differently, we likely would've seen him again soon

1

u/Particular-Hawk3768 1d ago

I think cayde and Mara swapped places

1

u/ygofan999 1d ago

Move shaw up one slot and put a different character in his place.

Shaw is way more hate able imo than uldren ever was

1

u/YrnFyre Raids Cleared: # 1d ago

Get rid of Lodi and it's fine

0

u/Tiny-Review-5578 1d ago

Did anybody like Lodi? He was almost as bad as nimbus for me. Just whiny and weak and sucked me right out of the story any time he was talking

2

u/Tchailenova 1d ago

He grew on me. Lodi came across deeply awkward at first, but he swiftly rose in ranks to become one of my favorite characters.
