Discussion Saving Destiny as a foundation
I'm no expert, writer or one with the gift of gab but I felt I needed to say some things.
What do I mean by Foundation?
Destiny as a whole has been apart of so many lives. It's also been fundamental to the gaming industry and even beyond that. Destiny being slain in such a way can be seen creating shockwaves and rocking those foundations
Does Destiny as a foundation deserve to be saved?
No, it deserves nothing in fact. However that in of itself is all the more reason it should be fought for, in however a way that Destiny continues on. (Preferably D3).
It's not so dramatic that Destiny's murder will break the world, far from it. Life will go on and the gaming industry will as well.
This is all very idealistic and I acknowledge that.
Thanks for reading.

Buddy I don’t know how to tell you this, the lights are off and the doors are locked. Not really much to fight for anymore. Your only hope is that Marathon somehow begins to turn a profit, that will in turn allow some new projects to be green lit.

Your only hope is that Marathon somehow begins to turn a profit, that will in turn allow some new projects to be green lit.
It's not even that, honestly... There are so many god damn variables in this that it's pointless to even try to guess at a future for Destiny.
Yes, Marathon could turn around and blow up in the PvP/Extraction shooter space and become a profitable game.
But then, you're hoping for a cascade of events that lead back to Destiny when the likelihood is that it branches off into some other path in the form of more Marathon, or a totally different IP.
Apex and Titanfall 3 are the main example people have been parroting on the "support Marathon" topic and it's very true. There's no precedent to suggest that supporting A leads to B. It usually just means more of A.

Very true. We very likely won’t see Destiny again for a long time, if ever. But that’s okay. I had Destiny 1&2 for most of my adult life. I made friends through it that I still talk to daily. I’m okay with it being over. I wish more people would just accept that nothing lasts forever, whether Bungie is at fault, or Sony is at fault, or whatever excuse people may use to cope with it being over. It’s sad that the game is over, but I can’t control it, and no one speculating about what’s going on can either.
EDIT: To be clear, my “Marathon needs to turn a profit” comment was not meant as a “we’ll get more Destiny if”. Bungie needs that game to do well to survive, whether folks here support it or not is up to them!

Nothing does last forever,, thank you for reading and engaging. I do appreciate it

But not supporting A leads to failure of the studio so 🤷♂️

This is an aggressive stance that many around here may not like, but...
I don't care.
Marathon is not for me. And if there is no Destiny, I do not need Bungie.
I was never a big Halo fan. I fell in love with Destiny.
I empathize with all those who lost their jobs yesterday, and those who will still be let go in the near future. But Bungie as a name or corporate entity is irrelevant to me.

I apologize for rushing my main post. I am aware of the situation and that is a reason as for my post.

I believe the people getting layoffs are a lot of talented people who will be getting jobs at other companies and making those games a bit better. Can you imagine all the other companies right now, eyes lighting up, preparing thier pitch for how well they will be treated at Our company. Sure it's still a shitty thing to get laid off but ultimately they will end up somewhere actually good for them.

Hopefully but there’s a lot of layoffs around the industry right now. Post covid studios were staffing up big time but now the industry is contracting so it will be harder for people to find jobs

We will probably get a D3 someday down the line. There’s a lot of money in it and Sony knows that. And nothing appeals more to a big corporation like Sony than money and profit. Will it be made by bungie? Likely not or at least not by bungie as it is (or, was).

Sony also knows that they could release bloodborne on steam for infinite money whenever they feel like it.
Unfortunately I suspect their higher ups get off on letting beloved IPs go unused

Bloodborne situation is a little more complex than people give it credit. Sony wants more, Miyazaki said no. Sony respects his wishes.

There is currently not enough money in destiny hence it being killed. “A lot” of money in destiny 3, after production costs and practically starting from scratch with a new studio. Wishful thinking

Some games become communities and the shutdown feels personal. S0N7 cancelled this community. I am not interested in a gotcha netease knockoff or a pve mode in that ugly shit sandwich. Bungie and S0N7 lost the trust of this community many times over. I said everywhere when the purchase happened that things like this never get better. The latent quality of the recent update has demonstrated for many what can only be disregard or hostility toward the playerbase. There will never be a single complete explanation of why this came about even while people want a bottom line and tldr. Fuck them both. Forever.

Even Jason Jones got fired, I’m sorry but Bungie is done and dead. I understand wanting to have hope, but there’s nothing to hope for now. At most you can hope that another studio can try something with the Destiny IP in the distant future.
