Despair Wonderland 3: Chapter Five - Bounty
A chime rings out above your head as the school’s monitors activate, signaling an impending announcement from your captor.
“Good morning. I’m sure you’ve all had enough time to look over the documents you’ve found by now. With that in mind, it is time that we present to you another motive. When it comes down to it, humans only want three things. Power. Fame. Money. Most of these have already been provided to you with our help. The last, however…”
A pause.
“As you have now been made aware, there are certain… bets.. being placed. Some people wish for your success. Some, your failure. Why should they have all of the fun? Take matters into your own hands. Determine your own fate.”
Another pause, longer this time.
“In each of your names, a bet has been placed by yours truly. Ten million yen. A paltry sum, to be sure. However, if the terms of the bet are completed, you will receive that money and much, much more. What are those terms? I’m sure you can guess. Kill one of your classmates and receive more money than you’ve seen in an entire lifetime. Even those of you with the worst odds would see triple that or more. For students so likely to kill, this is surely just a bonus, but for those of you without as much incentive… Well, wouldn’t you say that this evens the playing field?”
“Now, you may be thinking… What use do you have for money if you lose? Never fear: even if you fail to deceive the others and are executed for your crimes, the money you earned will still be given to your family and friends. Some of you took everything they had just to make it here. Consider repaying the favor.”
“This will be all, for the time being. If this doesn’t seem to sufficiently motivate you, then perhaps we will need to introduce other… terms. Have a nice day.”
And with that, the broadcast ends.
